Turns out the Suicide Squad we're about to meet was going to be a bit different at one point. It's always fun to ponder about the alternate versions of movies that might have been. What would The Matrix have been like if Will Smith accepted the role of Neo? Is the timeline where Will Smith starred in Django Unchained better? Would Independence Day: Resurgence have been so horrible if Will Smith returned? I didn't mean for this whole first paragraph to turn into a Will Smith party, but the dude turns down a lot of roles and we are talking about Suicide Squad here.

As it stands the Squad currently consists of Smith's Deadshot, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney's Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne's Enchantress, Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flag, Jay Hernadez's Diablo, Adam Beach's Slipnot, Karen Fukuhara's Katana, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje's Killer Croc. But croc almost sat this one out in favor of none other than King Shark, who occasionally surfaces on the TV side of DC Entertainment, terrorizing the residents of Central City on The Flash.

With the Suicide Squad junket underway in New York (stay tuned for Steve's interviews), Ayer took to social media to answer some fan questions. In the process, he dropped the news about the one-time possibility of a King Shark-equipped Squad. Why didn't he make the cut? Too much CGI. Here's what Ayer had to say,

“One of the characters for the squad lineup that I was actually thinking about was King Shark, but we realized it would take a lot of work, a lot of CG work. I wasn’t quite comfortable having a full CG character. We actually ended up going with Killer Croc, who turned out to be the right guy for the job.”

I'm partial to thinking Ayer made the right call here. King Shark is fun on The Flash, but he definitely looks pretty ridiculous, it's just that the ridiculousness fits well in the tone of The Flash's universe. While the movie effects would undoubtedly be better, I can't see any hint of ridiculousness fitting in with a David Ayer street battle.

In other news, Ayer all but confirmed a post-credits scene for Suicide Squad. While he didn't say as much outright, he encouraged fans to "leave the theater very slowly."

Here’s the official synopsis for Suicide Squad:

Suicide Squad follows the events of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and takes place in a post-Superman world where the government tries to determine how to respond in the event that an alien with more villainous intentions visits Earth. Ruthless intelligence officer Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) offers to recruit society’s worst criminals, those possessing lethal skills and superhuman powers. Her first target: the possessed archaeologist June Moone/Enchantress (Cara Delevingne).

When Midway City is threatened by a powerful mystical enemy, Waller’s plan gets the go-ahead. She cuts deals with the whole squad of prisoners: Deadshot (Will Smith) gets his Second Amendment rights reinstated, Harley (Margot Robbie) is set free from her cage, Diablo (Jay Hernandez) steps out of his fireproof prison, Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and Slipknot (Adam Beach) each get to wield their signature weapons once more, and Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) emerges from the swamp. The only condition is this: Obey orders or die. This is strictly enforced by squad leader Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), the samurai Katana (Karen Fukuhara), and of course the explosive devices – developed by Wayne Enterprises – inserted into their necks. However, the arrival of the tatted-up Gotham City mega-criminal, the Joker (Jared Leto), might doom the mission thanks to his plan to reunite with his true love, Harley.
