Today, we’ve got a few offbeat Suicide Squad odds and ends to get your fix of Warner Bros. next entry into the DCEU. Centered on the titular team of superpowered (and largely insane) villains, the film follows the “Skwad” when they’re let out of lock-up for a do-good mission that’s all but guaranteed to get them killed. Despite the fact that the film has been in promo mode since it started filming, WB has done a pretty good job of keeping details under wraps, but with summer fully underway, the August release date (and the answers that come with it) are just around the corner.
For now, feast your eyes on this assemblage of weird promo materials. First up, we’ve got a sports-themed international promo, introducing the members of the squad as if they were soccer players. So, totally normal stuff. There’s also a new set of retail posters (courtesy of GB Posters) that have a real “these will look sick under my black light” vibe. It continues to baffle me why marketing folks insist on putting the ladies in the back, even though Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn and Cara Delevingne‘s Enchantress seem to have two of the most important roles in the film. Placing Will Smith front and center makes sense because Will Smith is a front and center kind of guy, but the rest of the ordering is pretty wonky. Putting aside the fact that there’s definitely a female audience for this stuff, don’t young guys want posters of hot girls? I digress. At least Harley gets her own snazzy solo poster. I absolutely would have hung it up in my high school locker.
Check out the UK promo and set of new retail posters below. Suicide Squad also stars Jared Leto, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, Jay Hernandez, Adam Beach, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Karen Fukuhara, and Ike Barinholtz. Suicide Squad opens in theaters on August 5th.
