Quick – think of three directors you could envision directing the most-likely-two-film final big-screen installment in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. Got ‘em? We still bet you don’t have the three Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Summit has reached out to to gauge their interest.
According to EW, the studio has reached out to at least Sofia Coppola, Gus Van Sant and Bill Condon to see if they want to direct one or possibly both chapters of the finale. Wow. Really? Of the three, Coppola and Van Sant would almost certainly turn in the trippiest flicks, but could they possibly make something to satisfy the clearly rabid Twilight fanbase?
Please let us know what you think about these, and who else you think might do a good job with the grand Twilight finale. And hit the jump to watch the trailer for the third movie in the series, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and to find out what else these three directors are really working on.
Long before either Sofia Coppola, Gus Van Sant or Bill Condon possibly take a bite of the Twilight series, they all have other movies in varying stages of development.
Coppola has wrapped up production on Somewhere, which stars Stephen Dorff as a hard-living actor who reexamines his life after a surprise visit from his daughter, played by Elle Fanning. It’s due for release later this year.
Gus Van Sant is now at work on an as-yet-untitled movie about “two young people who share a fascination with mortality.” Possibly making that more interesting is that the “two young people” will be Mia Wasikowska of Alice in Wonderland and Henry Hopper, son of Dennis. Don’t expect to see anything come of this before 2011.
And in the biggest non-Twilight project of them all, Bill Condon has cast Marlon Wayans to play Richard Pryor in the biopic Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?, which is set to begin filming this fall.
But today, of course, it’s all about Twilight. You can view the trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse below, and please let us know who you’d like to direct the big finale: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

Err, somehow I doubt Gus Van Sant would ever stoop as low as to direct a Twilight movie. The source material just isn't good enough for him to make a high-quality picture, he may be able to direct it well but the material would still stink.
Summit will end up getting some half-decent director for the finale, as if it matters; the movies can be the fattest pieces of trash on the block they are still going to bring in millions.
Raimi?
I think Floria Sigismondi would by far make the best version of Twilight. Just look at her Marilyn Manson Beautiful People video or The White Stripes' Blue Orchid.
And how cool would that be to follow up the very film that changed Kristen's career from being stuck as Bella. Almost as cool as casting both Dakota and Kristen in The Runaways. now that would be a trip.
I would love to see Michel Gondry direct this movie. Although he is most known for making music videos. But his direction in “Be Kind Rewind” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless” Mind was just insane.
You got to be joking.
a quien me gustaria que dirigiera la ultima parte de la saga de crepusculo, es sofia coppola, y ademas me gustaria que contratara a elle fanning para que haga el rol de la pequeña vampira.
Coppola would get me in the theater, Van Sant would make me laugh.
