The 2017 Sundance Film Festival announcements have begun! Today, the festival announced the line-ups for U.S. Dramatic Competition, U.S. Documentary Competition, World Cinema Dramatic Competition, World Cinema Documentary Competition, and NEXT, which Sundance describes as “Pure, bold works distinguished by an innovative, forward-thinking approach to storytelling populate this program. Digital technology paired with unfettered creativity promises that the films in this section will shape a “greater” next wave in American cinema.”
And as always, there are some exciting titles on the way. While Sundance is always about the thrill of discovery (unlike TIFF, it’s hard to guess what the breakout film of Sundance will be), you can keep an eye on filmmakers who have had past success at the festival. 2017 will feature new films by Alex Ross Perry (Listen Up Philip), Macon Blair (who starred in the films from director Jeremy Saulnier), Gillian Robespierre (Obvious Child), Marti Noxon (Unreal), and David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints).
Check out the full line-ups below for U.S. Dramatic Competition, U.S. Documentary Competition, World Cinema Dramatic Competition, World Cinema Documentary Competition, and NEXT. The 2017 Sundance Film Festival runs from January 19 – 29th.
