First Clip from J.J. Abrams’ SUPER 8

     May 16, 2011

The first clip from J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 has gone online.  Footage-wise, there’s not much here that you haven’t seen in the trailer.  What’s interesting about the clip is the pacing and the camera angles.  The clip is paced so quickly that it almost feels abbreviated and of course, there’s plenty of lens flare for no particular reason.

Hit the jump to check out the brief clip.  The film stars Elle Fanning, Kyle Chandler, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basso, Joel Courtney, Ryan Lee, Zach Mills, and Amanda Michalka.  Super 8 opens June 10th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Super 8:

In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

“The clip is paced so quickly that it almost feels abbreviated.”

Are you shitting me Matt? It’s OBVIOUSLY abbreviated. How long have you been writing for the industry? Literally every time a studio releases a promotional clip, it’s shortened. I mean, the kid says “holy sh-” Isn’t that a dead giveaway? I’m pretty sure his exclamation in the film won’t be edited.

Matt just don’t hate bad directors, he hates the good ones too. and he’ll criticize them if he can, even to the point of nitpicking. “JJ uses too many lens flare. Chris Nolan doesn’t care if the Batman movies look the same. blah blah blah…. i’m a cynic person and i’m smarter than even the smartest of directors. that’s how smart i am”

if Super 8 becomes a big hit critically, who knows, maybe he’ll think that the clip they showed was paced well. and he’ll start sucking up to the film.

Im sick of the ‘lens flare’ hate, it adds a certain realistic quality to the film its almost tangible, 70s movies had it up the ying yang and I think its beautiful effect
