On Super Bowl Sunday, we brought you the official TV spot for Super 8. Apparently, J.J. Abrams didn’t think that it generated enough hype, as hours later he revealed some tidbits about the film. Since its unveiling just a few short days ago, Abrams-fanatics have been busy tearing apart the recent trailer and feasting on the delicious Easter eggs hidden within. (A similar technique was used on Super 8’s teaser trailer last year, which led fans to a website featuring the “scariest thing I ever saw.”)

But it seems there is more than one version of Super 8’s trailer surfacing on TV and the net. Sharp-eyed viewers have noticed that the trailers’ final sequence shows a series of images flashing on the lens of the Super 8 camera. When put together like puzzle pieces, the images form some disturbing scenes that may be clues to what Super 8 is all about.  Hit the jump to check them out.

The folks over at Movie Viral have collected the pieced-together images, thanks to members of Unfiction forums and Super 8 News. Most of them seem to be scenes of the zombie film that the kids are shooting with their own Super 8 camera. For instance, this handsome looking creature here (which some people are calling the ‘monster,’ but is supposedly a Quasimodo doll):

Some of the more interesting images are of people in varying states of distress. A bearded man lying on a stretcher, perhaps?

Then of course there’s the mysterious “Fedora-wearing man."

The man with bleeding eyes:

And the phantom hand:

And whatever the hell this thing is…

Probably the images most open to interpretation would be the mysterious date.

Google has yet to reward my searches with anything remotely relevant. Maybe more could be discerned from this seemingly random shot of a View-Master on a briefcase?

To me, it kind of resembles the Bad Robot logo and may mean nothing more than that. Feel free to speculate in the comments.

For those of you just hopping on board the Super 8 express, here’s the synopsis:

The Paramount Pictures release is set in Ohio in 1979 and introduces a troupe of six youngsters who are using a Super 8 camera to make their own zombie movie. One fateful night, their project takes them to a lonely stretch of rural railroad tracks and, as the camera rolls, calamity strikes — a truck collides with an oncoming locomotive and a hellacious derailment fills the night with screaming metal and raining fire. Then something emerges from the wreckage, something decidedly inhuman.
