As the final weeks of 2015 start counting down, heavy-duty movie fans are already taking a look toward 2016, and there's plenty to be excited for beyond Batman vs. Superman, Suicide Squad, Captain America: Civil War, and Doctor Strange. There's also the new film from the great Chinese helmer Jia Zhang-ke, Mountains May Depart, and Richard Linklater's Everybody Wants Some, but in the realm of cult, Super Troopers 2 is perhaps one of the great underdog films to be getting hyped early for its 2016 release. The original, which was directed and co-written by Jay Chandrasekhar, who also produced and co-starred in the film, was one of those comedies that did marginal business in theaters and became a bit of a phenomenon in the home-video market.

I, for one, can attest to untold amount of time spent in college re-watching the comedy, which set the members of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe as state troopers goofing off while also indulging a bit of a feud with the local police. Now, not much is known about the  sequel but EW got to snap a few shots on their recent set visit with Chandrasekhar, who is directing the sequel and co-writing the film again with fellow Broken Lizard members Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, Kevin Heffernan, and Erik Stolhanske.

Beyond the imminent sequel, which doesn't have a set release date but will feature the return of the brilliant Brian Cox as Captain O'Hagan, the leader of the troopers, Chandrasekhar also took his time with EW to announce the release of his memoir, perfectly titled Mustache Shenanigans, which will feature tales from his childhood in the "lily white" suburbs of Chicago, as well as his days at Colgate University and the early days of Broken Lizard. Chandrasekhar has a unique enough perspective to make his memoir an anticipated read, and the build-up to Super Troopers 2, which reached a two-million-dollar IndieGoGo goal within 24 hours of its announcement, has reached a sort of frenzy at this point. Come on, 2016, we're waiting on you here!
