The Super Troopers are back in action. Paul Soter, Steve Lemme, Kevin Heffernan, Jay Chandrasekhar, and the rest of the gang from the hit 2001 comedy have been busy filming the sequel. Broken Lizard posted the first image from production in Boston last week, but as filming wages on, a new casting addition has been revealed.

According to Deadline, which got the exclusive first look on the actor on set, Rob Lowe has been cast in a major leading role for Super Troopers 2. Hot off the heels of his Comedy Central Roast, which was more like a Roast for Ann Coulter, Lowe will play Guy Le Franc, described as “a former hockey player and the current mayor of a Quebec Canadian border town.” He also marks another special celebrity casting, Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter.

Chandrasekhar directs the film based on a script he co-wrote, and people clearly want to see Super Troopers 2, considering the crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo surpassed expectations and made this all possible. However, as we’ve seen with Anchorman 2, Zoolander 2, Dumb and Dumber To, and Joe Dirt 2, it’s not always enough to simply repeat the jokes that were once considered hilarious and outrageous. It’ll be interesting to see whether they take more of the nostalgic approach and dust off some of the old gags in new context (meow!), or aim more towards something completely new.

Plot details are currently unknown, but the crew have been posting snapshots from the set to social media. So far, we’ve seen the returns of Brian Cox’s Captain O’Hagan, Marisa Coughlan’s Ursula, a log cabin in the middle of the woods, and a surprise appearance at a Willie Nelson concert. He had time to appear in Zoolander 2, so let’s hope for a Super Troopers 2 cameo.
