‘Deadpool 2’: Tim Miller Exits Sequel Over Creative Differences

The success of Deadpool is indisputable, which lead to unquestionable move of developing a sequel. Said sequel had been moving along pretty well, with a shortlist of actresses to play Domino being revealed this week. Even a video was released of Ryan Reynolds in character recapping the success of Deadpool’s marketing campaign.

Unfortunately, things took a turn at the end of the week with the reveal that director Tim Miller has departed from Deadpool 2. According to reports, Miller has stepped away from the sequel due to creative differences with Reynolds, who in addition to being the star is also a producer on the film. At this point there aren’t any details that point at what those differences were, and while the split is unfortunate, it reportedly was on good terms. Miller’s role on the success of Deadpool was an important one, and his return for the sequel was encouraging. It’ll be interesting to see who the team behind the sequel will get to replace Miller, and how that will affect Deadpool 2 moving forward.

‘Logan’: First Trailer Reveals Hugh Jackman’s Last Time as Wolverine

The marketing campaign for James Mangold’s had begun with the director and star Hugh Jackman recently revealing sets of photos showcasing the settings and characters, this week with first looks at the villainous Reavers, Jackman as Wolverine, and comedian Stephen Merchant as Caliban. But what took the prize and praise this week was the release of the first official trailer for Logan, giving us a first look at what we should expect from the upcoming film.

This trailer was wonderfully crafted and incredibly effective, playing alongside the tunes of Johnny Cash’s cover of “Hurt” which adds an emotional layer to visuals that are already impactful. The first trailer for Logan plays nothing like a superhero movie trailer in the best of ways, and we see these characters, their journey, and the world they are currently in take the spotlight. If this trailer is any indication, we’re in for an emotional ride in Logan, and sure there’ll be action, but the trailer teases us with so much more.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’: First Trailer and Poster Released

James Gunn hasn’t been shy with sharing material with fans thought the production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, answering questions, revealing information, and sharing images here and there. This week we’ve gotten the biggest treat so far with the release of the first trailer and poster for the upcoming sequel. The black-and-white poster finds the titular team posing against a wall as if they knew they were doing it for a poster, joined also by a couple of familiar faces. The first trailer is actually a sneak peek teaser meant to keep us at bay until we get the first official full-length trailer, which is “coming in not too long” according to Gunn himself. As a little taste, this teaser does its job pretty well, reminding us why we liked the first movie and these characters so much the first time around, but still letting us know this is the sequel.

‘Justice League’: New Look at Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman

Apparently it’s becoming tradition for Zack Snyder to release an image to celebrate special occasions of DC characters. Recently he gave us the first look at J.K. Simmons’s Commissioner Gordon for Batman Day, and now he released a new image of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in celebration of the character’s 75th anniversary. The reveal of the image is a nice little tribute to the character and what she represents, while also continuing to remind us of the approach of Justice League. We will get to see Gadot as the Amazonian Princess in her own standalone film before Justice League, so the badass image does also serve as a reminder of that.

‘Jessica Jones’: All Season 2 Episodes to Be Directed by Women

Until we get Captain Marvel in 2019, Jessica Jones remains the only title that sees a female character taking the lead in both the big screen and the small screen in the Marvel Universe. The series will expand that strong female representation with the announcement that all of the episodes from Season 2 will be directed by women. Reportedly the announcement came from showrunner Melissa Rosenberg herself, during a conference about diversifying entertainment. There isn’t further information on who will be filling those directing spots, but the move of having an all-female directing roster is a good one for a series with such great female talent.

‘Doctor Strange’: Benedict Cumberbatch Has an Out-of-Body Experience in First Clip

Doctor Strange is just around the corner, it’s so close we can already see the buildings bending, and the film’s early reactions are already dropping. This week we got a small look at what we will fully see not too long from now with the release of a new clip from the film. This first clip from Doctor Strange sees Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange pushed out of his body in astral form, and yet the Doctor remains skeptical of the Mystic Arts. As the premiere date rapidly approaches, the final marketing push will likely bring us a lot of material to look at, so if you still want to see more, you have new promotional material to look forward to before the film hits theaters.
