We’re happy to have you back again for another weekly recap of the biggest superhero news surrounding the world of movies, TV shows, and more, and since I’m sure you’re eager to learn about the latest stories, let’s get right to it, because this week was a revealing one for sure. Rounding up the superhero news of this week we got the reveal of the synopsis and logo for Justice League, the first Spider-Man: Homecoming set photos, new Suicide Squad posters, the synopsis for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Sony’s animated Spider-Man movie finding a director, and more. See what you missed below.

‘Justice League’: Synopsis and Logo Revealed

Justice League is currently filming over in London, and to make sure you are aware of its impending arrival next year, WB has released the synopsis and logo for the upcoming Zack Snyder film. The synopsis describes how after Superman (Henry Cavill)’s sacrifice, Batman (Ben Affleck) along with Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) set out to “recruit a team of metahumans to stand against a newly awakened threat.” The logos, while very simplistic in design and color, do feel a lot lighter in contrast to what we saw from Batman v Superman, they almost look like they were logo designs for an animated movie or a comic book.

The Justice League fun doesn’t stop here, since Collider’s Steve “Frosty” Weintraub had the chance to visit the set of the film last week and brought back plenty of information to share. From Batman recruiting Flash (Ezra Miller) to Comissioner Gordon (J.K. Simmons)’s rooftop meeting with the League, we got over 60 things to know about Justice League, and you can also check out Steve’s video recap of the set visit to learn plenty more.

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’: First Set Photos Arrive

Jon Watt’s upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming had been delighting us with reveals of cast additions, to which we can add the names of Hannibal Buress and Abraham Attah, but this week we were also pleasantly surprised with the leak of the first set photos from the film. While there hasn’t been an official release announcing the beginning of principal photography, the photos coming out from the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming seem to confirm just that, with Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Tony Revolori caught in costume. Before you get too excited, when I say costume I mean high school teenager costume, but don’t worry, it’s only a matter of time before we see Holland in the Spidey suit.

‘Suicide Squad’: New Posters Revealed

David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is next on the superhero movie list and we’re very intrigued about what kind of chaotic fun we will get from Task Force X, and this week the marketing team for the film came out in full force with plenty of posters, including an IMAX poster, light and dark character posters, and a group poster. If anything you have to say the marketing for the film has been visually unique, the promotional material has had this dark but colorful look and feel to it that works perfectly with the whole “bad guys doing good” concept the film is playing with. Amidst the aftermath of Batman v Superman, it seems like Suicide Squad has done a great job so far to distance itself from all the DCEU controversy and doubt.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’: Official Synopsis Revealed

Up to this point there hasn’t been a lot of information revealed about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, other than small teases here and there, but this week we got a nice piece of intel from the James Gunn film in the form of an official synopsis. As it should be, the synopsis isn’t overly descriptive of the plot of the film, but it does mention that our Guardians will be working together to “unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage”, which is a great tease right there. It also mentions the appearance of “fan-favorite characters from the classic comics”, so I’m sure that will fuel plenty of speculation moving forward.

'Spider-Man': Animated Movie Finds Its Director

Spider-Man: Homecoming is taking a lot of the attention at this point when it comes to the character, but we can’t forget there’s also an animated Spider-Man movie on the way, and while Phil Lord and Chris Miller left the project to direct the Han Solo Star Wars spinoff, it looks like Sony was successful in finding a director to take on the job. Sony Pictures themselves announced that Bob Persichetti will be given directing duties for the animated Spider-Man film, making it his directorial debut. Persichetti has an animation background having worked on films like Hercules, Tarzan, Shrek 2, Puss in Boots and The Little Prince.

‘Batman’: Ben Affleck Gives Update on Standalone Movie

After many rumors and much speculation we were finally treated to the confirmation that a Batman standalone movie was in the works with Ben Affleck directing and co-writing the script for the film alongside DC Films co-head Geoff Johns, and during the Justice League set visit that Collider’s Steve Weintraub was a part of last week Affleck gave updates on the status of the film. Affleck confirmed that there isn’t a definite timeline for the production, the reason being that a script isn’t ready yet, adding that he isn’t moving forward until they have a script because he’s been “on the end of the things when you make movies when you have a script that’s not good yet and it doesn’t pan out.” The actor did add that the script is being worked on but that he’s not “happy enough with it yet.”
