Between the studios that already have set ongoing superhero properties and those who are hungry to get in the game, there a lot of news constantly dropping revolving around superheroes in movies and TV. You might ask yourself, “How will I keep up?” but you shouldn’t stress about it because it’s all right here in our weekly superhero news roundup. This past week, we got news on new Black Panther cast additions, Wolverine 3 updates, the time setting of the next X-Men movie, a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows ad, and more. See what you missed below.

‘Black Panther’: Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan Join the Cast

The idea of a Black Panther movie was already exciting for many fans by itself, then Ryan Coogler came on as the director and that brought more anticipation, more recently after Chadwick Boseman’s performance in Captain America: Civil War you might have thought we couldn’t be more sold on Black Panther. But now this week we get the delightful news that Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan are joining the cast. According to reports, Nyong’o in talks to play an undisclosed role that has only been described as a love interest, while Jordan has reportedly closed a deal to play a mysterious role that could be the film’s villain. Also on a great note, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has revealed that 90% of the cast will be either African or African-American.

‘Wolverine 3’: Filming Has Begun, R-Rating Confirmed

Since there is still plenty of mystery surrounding the upcoming Wolverine 3, that leaves a lot of room for rumors and speculations to surface about Hugh Jackman’s last turn as Logan, one of those being that the studio was considering going for an R-rating. Now thanks to producer Simon Kinberg we got the reveal that filming has begun on Wolverine 3 and that it will indeed be rated R. During an interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, Kinberg confirmed the film’s R-rating and that it had begun filming already, adding some more information about what’s to come:

“It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.”

‘X-Men’: Next Movie to Take Place in the 90s

The X-Men movies up to this point have taken us for a ride along different time periods. X-Men: First Class took us to the 60s, X-Men: Days of Future Past to the 70s, and X-Men: Apocalypse the 80s. The next step we will be taking with the following X-Men movie is into the 90s, so says producer Simon Kinberg. During a press junket, Kinberg revealed that the next X-Men film will be firmly set in the 1990s, a decade where the team of mutants was shining bright on their very own cartoon series.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’: New Mystique and Cyclops Clips

Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse is almost here, and while you may not need more incentives to go and watch it (or not), Fox released two new clips featuring Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence). Cyclops’ clip is an introduction to the character and the moment he discovers his powers, while Mystique’s finds the morphing mutant returning to the X-Mansion seeking help.

‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows’: New TV Spot Reveals More Krang

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows will see the introduction of fan-favorite villains Bebop, Rocksteady, and Krang. Up to this point Krang remained the most secretive since we had only seen his eyeball in a trailer, but now we got another glimpse of him in a new TV spot. Sure, the TV spot is short and Krang’s appearance is even shorter, but hey it’s a tease and something to look forward to.

‘Wonder Woman’: Gal Gadot Wraps Filming

If you’re one of the fans patiently awaiting Patty Jenkins’s Wonder Woman, then you will be thrilled with the news that Gal Gadot has finished shooting, making the film’s arrival closer in a sense. After a long shoot, Gadot took to her Instagram to share the news that she had finished her shoots for Wonder Woman. It’s unclear whether she’ll get a break or not, since she is also playing the character in Justice League, which has already begun production.
