If you’re a fan of superheroes like Superman, Spider-Man, Batman and The Flash and wondered what they might have done if they were real and living during the 20th Century, Agan Harahap has an answer.  That’s because he’s taken real photographs from the 20th Century and added superheroes.  Some of the photos include Spider-Man with the GI’s in Cherbourg-Normandy 1944, Superman helping retrieve  stolen artwork from the Nazis, the Hulk in Afghanistan in the mid ’80′s, Batman with Fidel Castro in 1959, and many more.  Hit the jump to check them out and thanks to Max for letting me know about the images and the story:

I’ve taken a few of the images from Agan Harahap’s flickr account, click here to see a few more:

I couldn't tell you exactly why, but I find these mildly offensive. Feels like it's not respecting the real people in these photos. Cheapens the whole history of it. Not a big deal, I guess, but doesn't sit well with me.

Granted the idea of telling stories with these super heroes involved is always interesting.

The Hulk one looks pretty cool.

THey should make movies out of these. Tarantino proved you can do anything after BASTERDS.

Hopefully in 100 years they find the original pictures and not these. That would really throw a wrench into history.

I got to say, these are as funny as hell, and well done.

Superman (the old Earth-2 version) once tried to help with World War II, but was prevented from doing so by Hitler’s use of the Spear of Longinus. When the Axis was finally defeated, and the powers of the Spear negated, Superman flew to Europe and saw the concentration camps first hand; he was shocked, angered, and saddened by not being able to stop the Holocaust, and vowed to make sure something like it never happened again-this became the basis for what he would do with the Earth-3 Alexander Luthor in the Infinite Crisis mini-series/graphic novel.
