henry-cavill-superman-ew-cover-largeThe new issue of Entertainment Weekly goes inside Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman re-launch.  But the cover of the issue belongs to new Supes, Henry Cavill, who spoke to EW about the film.  While the full interview has yet to go online, EW issued a brief tease with Cavill talking about his anxiety about putting on the suit and screen-testing for the coveted role:

“All I could think was: Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going: You’re not ready! You’re not ready!

But Snyder was impressed:

“Other actors put that suit on, and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors. Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go ‘Wow.’ Okay: This was Superman.”

The film is slated to begin shooting later this year for a holiday 2012 release.  With the start date on the horizon, we should expect casting news of the other major roles in the near future.

  1. Great choice for Supes, I just hope …

A, He bulks up big for the role! Like the 300 actors.

B, We get a Superman film, that has more fantasy elements, like the comics. ie, Darkseid style villains, and action, and gorgeous visuals, rather than boring old Metroplolis/Lois is in peril/Lex wants to repossess your land crap!
Gimme something Awe inspiring to look at! Its SUPERMAN! The KING of all Superheroes, supposedly.

C, Make him FIGHT something, and I mean life threatenning not just exchanging Super punches that dont hurt neither him nor his opponent, I want to feel that feeling that everyone gets watching Rocky take a whooping, then at the end he hits back, and were all reduced to door punching wet behind the ears emotional wrecks!

Make us care, and root for him.

D, Maybe show us some ultra cool flashbacks of Krypton, and make it awe inspiring to look at so it doesnt just feel like a retread.

E, (last one) ZERO tolerance on any Jar Jar-esque corny villains that appear in almost all Superman Animated films etc..

Nutshell… Make it as Brilliant as the Chris Reeves Superman, but make as if were seeing an Original film like no other that weve ever seen. As if were watching Superman for the first time ever.

    • ^ Haha, is that all?

This is why so many people are never happy with a Superman movie. Some people’s expectations are just ridiculously high, and it’s downright impossible to please them.

      How about this:

Stay true to the core character of Superman, and make an awesome movie.

  2. Great Actor. I hope this is as good as the Donner Cut of Superman II.

    And CHANGE THE SUIT!

At the very least get rid of the underpants over the tights. And they could lose the cape as well.

  3. And no Lex! And enough of the Dorky Clark. Both Dean Cain and Tom Welling have proved that is old and unnecessary! And The Gods of Krypton helps us if this is another origin story than instead of Lois why not Lana?
