The first image from Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, Man of Steel, has gone online. [Update: And it turns out it's fan made.  Yay, Internet speed.  My bad, world.  Anyway, you can still check it out after the jump.  I have to go wipe this egg off my face.]

Man of Steel is set to open during the holiday season of 2012.

ok the bad first. he’s not wearing his glasses. thats the whole point of being Clark Kent right? to look doofus infront of everybody. here he looks good. too good. the good part, the whole picture :)

  • Sadclown

I dont think this is an official image cause theres a split going straight down the center of it i may be wrong though.

  • Joe

Why not just delete the post if you found out it was fake within 30 seconds of posting? Is the ‘SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL Movie Image’ title tag too good for you to pass up? Google whores.

    • Steve ‘Frosty’ Weintraub

because we are honest with our readers. we don’t delete things when we fuck up. many sites alter an article without saying it’s been updated. we try and maintain a high standard.

      • Joe

High standard? How many ads do you have on Collider? How many title tags do you change to whore Google for traffic? How many posts just end with lazy copied and pasted synopsis?

      • The Train!

wow, joe, take it easy. i didn’t realize that trying to make a dime automatically means that you don’t have standards. by your logic there are almost no media outlets with standards. furthermore, you’re only focused on decisions about advertising rather than discussing larger issues regarding credibility of the content itself. are you suggesting that the presence of advertising automatically means they have no credibility? that seems like a fallacious argument to me.

making a mistake and admitting it does seem to me to be a more transparent way of dealing with mistakes than just pretending they never happened. it takes after the practice in print journalism of printing a retraction.

      • Brad

Having a high standard, Steve, would include verifying an image’s authenticity with the studio’s publicist BEFORE jumping the gun to run an article for quick hits. Your retraction/correction – of which there have been many on this site over the past year – is hardly indicative of that.

    • Kevin

“Google whores”? You need to relax buddy.

    • Mike

@ Joe. If you don’t like Collider don’t visit the site. Do you merely come here to complain about the fact that Collider needs to make money to exist? Welcome to the world.

Keep up the good work Collider! I visit the site everyday and don’t plan on stopping.

  • Bruce Wayne

Uhm,the second one looks kinda like Tom Welling.

  • Bruce Wayne

Get over it people, you act like your house payment depended on this article. Grow up.

    • Black Adder

No but our batcave payments DO, Bruce! LOL! ;D

  • Steve ‘Frosty’ Weintraub

to joe…you do realize Collider is not corporate owned? We pay our bills by ads sales. without those banner ads, we wouldn’t be able to stay online. sorry if we have too many. If you feel like paying us thousands of dollars a month to visit the site, I’d be more than happy to take down the ads that bother you.

  • Black Adder

Funny thing is, it should’ve occurred to everyone that it was fake from the get-go given filming doesn’t start until August. ;)

  • Tarek

Of what ads are you talking about ? I don’t see none of them.

anyway, I am not holding my breath for this Man of “Still”. If Nolan was behind the camera, I would have been thrilled. But Snyder ?…

    • Joe

If you turn ad-blocker off you’ll discover that Collider is actually and advertisement site that just happens to blog about movies. There are 5 in the sidebar alone. There’s also multiple banners at the top, below the posts and even ads on the images. All those ‘DVD deals’ posts are purely for $$$ from Amazon. That’s the only reason they do it.

Using the ‘not corporate owned’ isn’t an excuse for greed. Most websites aren’t corporate owned and they don’t clutter their space with ads and they DON’T try to game Google for traffic and cheap hits.

      • Tarek

I understand now. ’cause I have indeed my adBlock activated.

Jealousy comes in many forms, yours is ignorance and being feeble minded. Don’t come to the site if you don’t like the style. They have this thing called the Internet now and some sites have to sustain themselves by selling space and having ads. I’m sure you can find a lot of other film sites that don’t have as many ads and copy and paste news from Collider for you.

      • vxx

Dude, lighten up. it’s not like internet ads are a brand new thing. If you haven’t gotten used to the idea by now, you should probably find some rock to crawl under.

  • Black Adder

I’m going to come to Collider’s defense here and state that I’m glad they not only updated the truth on this fake photo (or photo manipulation….whatever you wanna call it). It’s not their fault it was made. THAT lies on the person that made it in the first place. Other sources picked up on it and quickly deleted it (Comic Book Resources). I’m glad Collider didn’t do so. They updated the REAL STEEL DEAL on it, and now we can comment onward on it.

    Cheers to Collider. ;)

    • J

It was stupid to post the photo in the first place. Do research before you post an article like this. They haven’t even started shooting yet.

STEVE- It’s nice that you want to have a high standard, but at least change the title of the article now.

    • J

And you can even tell by looking at the photo it’s fake (that split). Shouldn’t be fooled that easily.

    • no kudos

This obvious fake has been going around for months and every time it pops up, all the commenters immediately point out that it is an obvious fake. But the websites don’t care. They know it is fake and post it anyway, for the google hits.

  • 1AngryMan

I knew it was fake. Zack Snyder likes FEWER colors in his movies.

    • Tarek

That’s for what I vomited before the ending of 300. ^^

  • Peterg@ThinkMcflyThink

Happens to the best of us. It’s actually a fantastic looking manip.

I think that AICN ran the same thing a week or two ago, but they actually took down the article if I remember correctly.

    Kudos for leaving it up.

  • Ian

I’m having a hard time recognizing who the woman is in the photo on the bottom. Her half of the photograph doesn’t look like something from Smallville.

    • alevc

The woman from the photo is a model who is posing as a superhero that in her disguise wears glasses, it was for a vogue photoshoot.

  • Ken

@Joe, I’ve seen sites that are by far a lot worse with ads popping up all over the place! Collider is not and has never been an advertisement site! I’ve been here since its inception and that was never the case. The fact is, it sounds like you don’t like the site very much and quite frankly, your getting upset over something so silly that it makes me think you have way to much time on your hands (Unemployed maybe?) I am grateful they take the time out to “debunk” or correct things! OH and just so you know, the first site that posted this fake photo came from “Ain’t It Cool News” which took it down with NO explanation whatsoever! AICN has really been going downhill these days thanks to more up to date AND accurate reporting from COLLIDER!!

  • nelson

collider come on now aicn made the same mess up lol

how did you expect a first official image to be up in june when the film begins in august

    LOL

Tom Welling is so gorgeous. Guh!

That’s what I took away from this whole story. Lesson learned!
Get in me now Mr. Welling!

  • grynning_guy

One of them is Tom Welling (Smallville). Don’t jump to conclusions. Wait for the movie, not simple stills. Time will tell.
