More Set Photos from MAN OF STEEL

by     Posted: August 12th, 2011 at 7:32 am

While I’m not crazy about all the set photos leaking in from Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Rises, I’m glad that they’re at least shooting outdoors and not in front of a green screen.  Yes, there will be CG elements animated in, but its a nice change of pace for Man of Steel director Zack Snyder who made digital environments his home for 300 and the majority of Sucker Punch.  These new set photos are from a scene where a tornado rips through Smallville and that’s why actors are huddling under a bridge.  I don’t consider that to be a spoiler because these scenes take place in the Midwest (they’re filming in Sugar Hill, IL) and tornados tend to there.  If it were a hurricane or the actors were cowering from an angry troll, that would be a different story.

Hit the jump to check out the set photos.  The film stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Julia Ormand, Antje Traue, Harry Lennix, Christopher Meloni, and Russell Crowe.  Man of Steel opens June 14, 2013.

  1. Funny story: People always assume Smallville is in the Midwest; but, the creators of Superman have said that it’s actually a small town in the farm lands of New Jersey (hence, the closeness of Metropolis aka New York). And, of course you’re not crazy about set photos. They’re set photos from some snoop’s cell phone. The official Man of Steel photo (Supes ripping through bank vault) is bad ass.

    • Where’d you read that?? Everyone knows Smallville is in Kansas…
And Gotham City is more based off of New York than Metropolis.

      • The only reason you think Gotham = Chicago is because of Nolan. Gotham is in close proximity to Metropolis unlike Chicago to New York you idiot. If Gotham ( a completely fictional city) existed, than it would be Philadelphia. By the way, New York and other such cities exist in the DC universe as well as such cities as Metropolis, so it really doesn’t matter. Look It Up. A$$hole.

      • Lets calm down now. No need to get all wound up over a fictional city in a funny book.

I wasn’t basing anything on Nolan. I was basing that off of Bob Kane. Have you ever heard of him? He said that Gotham (in his mind) was based on many U.S. cities, but he always imagined it as the Chicago to Metropolis’ New York due to the organized crime problem it had back then. He also said; “One of the things about Chicago is Chicago has alleys (which are virtually nonexistent in New York). Back alleys, that’s where Batman fights all the bad guys.”

Different Batman writers/filmmakers have different takes on the story. Some (Like Frank Miller and Tim Burton) see Gotham as New York, others (Neal Adams. Christopher Nolan) see it as Chicago.

      • P.S.

In YOUR defense, Kane did get the name “Gotham” from a Washington Irving book about his home town of New York City. So there you have it.

Also FYI “Gothem” is a 16th century Dutch word meaning “A town of fools”, pretty cool.

  2. It hasn’t occurred to you that people from outside the US read this site, has it? It hasn’t occurred to you that the set photos themselves are not a spoiler, but then providing a specific plot detail that not everyone knows about IS a spoiler?

    Well done.

  3. How many plants and fake posters has WB hired for good word of mouth?

No, the pic of the plastic door and the snake man costume with the Travolta hair is not good. The S looks goofy – this is NOT cool.

But, somehow, there are hundreds of posts giving this a thumbs up?

Lots of people are getting paid off – LOTS…
Sorry DC, yourv product has become hardened dog sh!t.

and this post will be removed by the WB task force in 3…2…

    • Agreed. Everything about this movie so far has looked awful.
And I have noticed some delirious comments at some sites seem to use the same buzz words over and over. Smells like PR interns at work.

    • Gimme a break, Cole. You really think that ALL the people work for WB. They don’t have a genuine reason for liking a suit, huh? I can think of one..it’s BADASS. You can keep your brght colored wearing, single curl over the forehead hair style, Supes. I’ll take the new version any day.

I guess our sense of taste is nowhere near as good, or as wise as your judgment, on taste and design.

      • Again with the buzz words. Normal discourse does not contain the exact same descriptors every single time. If you are not a PR intern, you are doing your best to sound like one. Try harder to sound like a real person.

  4. has anyone else noticed thats the same vault door that was in the background of the pic they put out with Henry Cavill in costume

  5. I think it’s kinda cool that we can actually fling actors up into the air for flying effects. Bungee jumping (And whatever that reverse bungee jumping thing is called) hadn’t been invented yet for the first superman… not to mention digital cable erasing…

no, knowing there’s a tornado in the movie is not a spoiler, it’s poster art.

  6. Wow, brandon…. Shmojo really F’d you in the A by showing that he did his research instead of stooping to your level. I, on the other hand, take delight in pointing out that you’re here to pretend you’re better and more knowledgeable than everyone else, but still don’t know to use the word “then” instead of “than”. You are a serious cornhole! Go to Central City so the Flash can speed-f*** you in the a$$!

    Ciao! :*
