Warner Bros. has released two teaser trailers for director Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel and they’re awesome.  While both have the same visuals and music, the Yahoo version has Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent) narration and the MSN has Russell Crowe (Jor-El).  Unlike most trailers that reveal everything, I love how this is a true teaser and it’s only towards the end that you realize you’re watching a trailer for a Superman movie.  Also, the way it uses music and visuals to set the mood is perfect.  As I’ve said many times, Man of Steel is easily my most anticipated movie of 2013 and everything I’ve seen and learned tells me it’s going to be something special.

Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, and CroweMan of Steel opens on June 14th, 2013.  Hit the jump to watch the teaser.

Next summer, “Man of Steel” is coming to the big screen. The film is from director Zack Snyder and producers Charles Roven, Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer from a story by Goyer & Nolan, based upon Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics.

  1. Its refreshing having someone positive post one of these stories instead of the usual depressed nitpicking. Thanks Frosty.

    • 100% agree too. i’m super excited about this movie and altho i have my hesitations, it’s nice to here from an optimist rather than a debbie downer… cough goldberg cough.

    • Awful trailer. Trailers are meant to be exciting. I would love to see a glimpse of superman fighting Brainiac or Doomsday…..but wait, we will never get that, and top it off what we do get is certainly not the cool trailer I have read about that was shown at Comicon. I want to be optimistic but could we get a trailer that is actually exciting in some way. If not for the last part of this trailer, and obviously the logo, you woudn’t even know it was a superman movie.

      • You fool. It’s called a TEASER so you’ll want more, and obviously it did it’s job because you’re pissing about it not being sufficient. Mission accomplished.

      • Well said Jeff, that’s the whole point of a “teaser” to make you want more, and it clearly did what it set out to do.

    • I’m not sure if you’re kidding or not but I shed a tear, I love Superman and I cannot wait to see this movie. I don’t care about the people who are complaining. I am more stoked on this already than I have been about a movie in forever.

    • He tried to in Superman II, after Clark earlier surrendered his powers to be with Lois as a mortal and had to walk back to the Fortress of Solitude from the diner where he got his ass whopped and discovered Zod had taken over.

  2. Nope didn’t make me feel anything. Still not convinced this will be any good. Also I’ve said all along the suit looks like a babies onsey without red trunks. It looks awful.

  3. What a moronic trailer!!!!!!!

I’m ok with the fact that is a teaser trailer and won’t show much, but here they don’t show ANYTHING!! That last shot of Superman flying ruins the tone of the trailer. What about that awesome shot where you can see Superman at a distance? The one from Comic Con?

Worst than that, why, oh why, they had to use THE LORD OF THE RINGS score for it!!???? Why not Star Wars? Why not ET??? What’s wrong with the tune they put on the Comic Con footage?? That was Hans Zimmer anyway.

    Completely disappointed!!

  5. How refreshing it is in 2012 to be watching a trailer that is ACTUALLY a teaser. And a pretty good one too. This looks like it’s taking more of an epic tone than its predecessors. I would have liked to have seen the supposedly awesome CC footage, but oh well. They’ve got me intrigued.

  6. Couldn’t think of anything but Lord of the Rings while watching this. Really? It would’ve been a thiusand times better without any music at all, rather than just ripping off such a recognisable tune. Disappointed.

  7. Could the music be any more “LORD OF THE RINGS”?
Wonder what Kal-El uses to shave?
Didn’t know they had fishing like that in Kansas?
Hope it is better than those trashy comic book movies with Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh.

    • It’s a result of low pressure, it’s the same thing you see at the tips of a jet’s wings. He’s going so fast that he’s displacing air at a vast rate.

      • Hey come on man, don’t ruin his trolling. He was hoping no one would understand the science behind it and people would think he’d pointed out a flaw!

  8. This reminds me way too much of Batman Begins teaser trailer, when Bruce Wayne travels the world, learning about crime, even the cinematography and the bleached blue tones are the same, except here Clark Kent is on a boat. Grit works for Batman because he is tormented by dark emotions, – but Superman is a beacon of inspiration.

In addition, Cavil seems too conscious in front of the camera.

    • Too conscious in front of the camera?!? What does that even mean?? He looks, in the 3-4 split-second long clips that we can even see, totally, totally fine.

  9. Looks like it will be pretty good. An ”earthy” Superman. Possibly a conflicted character who has all these fantastic powers but just wants to be a regular guy, fitting in, doing all the regular things. And the responsibility to ”save” a planet that keeps digging a bigger hole for itself is too great to any one person (or alien) to bear. These may be the extra-comic Nolan touches.

  10. Hans hasn’t started scoring the film yet. The trailer at Comic Con i believed used part of the inception score, and people complained it wasnt John Williams. Its a teaser guys. take a dump. relax. GEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. I’m just as excited to hear what Hans creates, but you know it just, well, TAKES FUSKIN TIME TO CREATE A FILM!

    • Yes, precisely what I thought watching it. Malick’s tone poem “Tree of Super-Life”. And I know the music is obviously temporary, but I was moved. Great teaser.

  11. Why the Lord of the Rings music? Odd… Anyway, I think I’ll have to wait for a full-length trailer to really decide whether I think this looks good or not. That teaser wasn’t anything particularly special.

  12. I think I read the music is from The Thin Red Line…..

Great tone this teaser sets – beat my expectations.

  13. I like it as a teaser, it doesn’t even hint at why he needs to travel, why he seems to be trying to live an ordinary life. I’ll await something new in the future, it looks like it will eventually have Snyder’s action with grounded “Christopher Nolan” effects (the special effects, both CGI and practical, are what MADE Dark Knight Rises)

  14. Also with the russel crowe narration, it reminded me strongely of gladiator with the music and the style of shots when he was a kid. was i the only one?

  15. Ok, ok, I have to admit it. At the end, when Superman breaks breaks the sound barrier and the sound barrier cloud/halo forms around him (subtle symbolism!), I thought, “fuck yes!”

  16. Probably will be good, but god dammit im getting tired of every super hero movie trying to be (nolan’s) batman! why so dark?

  17. I didn’t see it as “dark”. Sure, its not cartoony, but after the epic fail of Green Lantern, no one really expected M.O.S. to go that route did they? I am anxious to see a full trailer.

    • you mean there will be a longer version of this shit? Hope they put up something better than this boring ‘emotional americana’ crap.

  18. Funny thing… This trailer played before “Dark Knight Rises” here in north Fort Worth to a packed house and after it played only three people applauded. The rest of the room had a slight groan.

  19. I still say they screwed up the suit, dark it way too dark and they should have kept the red trunks because not only it helps balance out the colors of the outfit but also needs to cover that certain bulgy area, in which it kinda looks like it sticks out a bit. Not exactly a good impression when you think about it. And I am sooo sick of every super hero movie trying to be Christopher Nolan Batman material. As a superman fan(from the former continuity and screw that new 52 garbage) why so dark? Dark stuff is not what superman is about, for god’s sake.

    • Nolan came up with the concept and story for it, he also has a writing credit so if you’re complaining about it being a copy of Nolan that’s because it is Nolan, he’s just not directing, plus he’s producing it

    • What’s dark about this trailer? Please, tell me. Have you even heard what Jor-El is saying?

It seems since Nolan’s Batman people throw words like “dark” and “gritty” at everything that is not campy.

Just because something is MATURE doesn’t mean is dark.

  20. I’m sure Zack ‘Slow Motion’ Snyder will find a way to fuck this up. And trying to copy Nolan’s style won’t work.

  21. Watched today The Dark Knight Rises in Imax and it was: WOW!! easily 14 out of 10. Chris Nolan is a genius.
If superman can deliver let\’s say half of what we got from TDKR, then I\’m in. otherwise, go to Hell Snyder.

  22. At this point in time, I am looking forward to this film! I am not going to bitch about what I am not seeing, I appreciate what has been presented.

  23. Music: great
    Footage: ok for a TEASER
    Pathos: transmitted
    Epic voiceover: check
    Suit: the best one yet
Conclusion: better than expected, looking forward to it

  24. I can’t wait for this one.

Terribly excited & think that the Nolan/Snyder team plan will pull out all the stops.

Now…I hate to sound like one of those Avengers vs TDKR competitors…but this is gonna be hard to touch the AMAZINGNESS of the Dark Knight Rises.

    It was incredible.

  25. I think this TEASER is perfect in showing the direction and tone of this Superman film . It is meant to show a man that is conflicted about his powers not one who casually accepts it. I think it will be brilliant and these teasers are confirming this for me. It is also great to see the difference in the teachings of his father figures.
    F**K yeah go Superman!!

  26. Right now this is still just a “meh” for me. I’ll have to see a bit more before I can get excited for this movie because this trailer did nothing for me.

  27. To all the haters…. enough of the hate! This looks great and I am on board. I’m a Superman fanboy and I admit that with pride. I can’t wait!!!!

  28. Nolan came up with the concept and story for it, he also has a writing credit so if you\’re complaining about it being a copy of Nolan that\’s because it is Nolan, he\’s just not directing, plus he\’s producing it

  29. What sad, miserable lives most of you must be experiencing to nitpick and bash a 90 second teaser trailer. I pray Santa brings you all the girlfriend you all so plainly to see need. Or at least a flesh light. You guys need to lighten up.

Oh, and I think this was a pretty cool teaser trailer.

  30. Ha, that\’s exactly what I thought too. That\’s not a bad thing though. I am intrigued with this take. I really want to see where they are going with it. Someday down the line I would love to see a big budget Red Son, but I know that will never happen. A man can dream. This also kinda reminded me of chronicle a bit.

  31. Does anyone remember how epic “the Superman Returns” teaser trailer was? It had the Brando voice over, the epic score and it showed just enough superman to get you extremely excited. THAT is how you do a teaser trailer (even though the movie was weak). They should have waited for Zimmer to do his own score before rushing out this teaser trailer with LOTR music that doesn’t even fit with the imagery.

  32. The Yahoo one is the one they showed before The Dark Knight Rises (in my theater, anyway), and I was a bit confused by the use of the Lord of the Rings score. But it definitely fits. The funniest part, though, was the fact that they showed it immediately after The Hobbit trailer.
