Wes Anderson and Animation Studio LAIKA Team up to Sell Smartphones

Director Wes Anderson and LAIKA (the animation studio behind Coraline) have teamed up to create commercials for Sony’s Experia smartphones.  The slogan for the phones is that they’re “Made of Imagination”, which is surprising since I thought phones were made of electronic components.  Silly me.  Kids, who are “the most imaginative people”, were asked what they thought made the Experia work.  Anderson then took their explanation and turned it into the narrative for a commercial.  Watching Anderson’s commercial, I wish it was for a real movie rather than something designed to sell phones.

Hit the jump to check out the teaser video, and Anderson’s take on one child’s explanation of the phone’s mechanics.

Kenny Powers Goes Steve Jobs in Latest K-Swiss Ad Featuring Bruce Lee, Moon Babes, and Animated Children Getting Destroyed

Last Sunday, the third and final season of Eastbound and Down premiered with one of the series’ best episodes to date.  They’ve got the comedy of Kenny Powers (Danny McBride) down to a science, and every one of his lines absolutely kills.  A couple years ago, K-Swiss made the bold and brilliant decision to hire Kenny as their pitchman/MFCEO (Motherfuckin’ Chief Executive Officer).  Now he’s back, parodying Steve Jobs (tooo soooon!), and selling K-Swiss’ latest shoe, Blades.  The commercial is five-minutes long and only ten seconds are devoted to talking about the design of the shoe.  Everything else is Kenny Powers being awesome and hilarious.

Hit the jump to check out the commercial, which features a conversation with Bruce Lee, green chicks on the moon, and a blood-drenched animated sequence.  Eastbound and Down airs at 10pm EST on HBO.

Check out the Extended Version of the Ferris Bueller-Inspired Super Bowl Ad starring Matthew Broderick

by     Posted: January 30th, 2012 at 8:35 am

A few days ago, we showed a sneak peek at the Honda CR-V Super Bowl Ad featuring Matthew Broderick playing off his Ferris Bueller role.  Directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover), the ad is pretty cute and funny, although it has a notable lack of Alan Ruck.  The ad would be perfect if the CR-V belonged to Alan Ruck’s dad, they took it, and then Ruck destroyed it in a fit of cathartic rage at the end.

Hit the jump to check out the ad.  A shorter version will play during the Super Bowl on Sunday.

The third season premiere of Glee is just around the corner, and now we have an upbeat new promo complete with a satisfying glitter bomb, an upbeat cover of The Go-Go’s song We Got the Beat and a rocking new look for Quinn. Also fans eagerly awaiting the union of Mr. Schuester and Emma get a special treat in the promo too. As inconsistent as the quality of writing is on the show, it’s the music and Jane Lynch that keeps me coming back for more musical craziness on Fox. The third season premieres on Tuesday, September 20th but you can check out the new promo after the jump.

New Promo for Season Eight of HOUSE

Though Lisa Edelstein may not be returning as Dr. Cuddy for the eighth and presumably final season of House M.D., it looks like the consequences of the epic end of her relationship with Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) will be in full force. Fox has just released a new promo for the coming season, and it looks like House will be taking some serious punishment from the law and from those who have broken it. And I don’t want to spoil it, but that tagline for the season premiere is pretty damn good. You’ll see what I mean after you check out this short but sweet promo after the jump.

First Promo for Season 6 of DEXTER

by     Posted: May 8th, 2011 at 8:55 pm

It’s still a long way until fall, but Showtime has already started running promos for the sixth season of Dexter.  The promo doesn’t have any new footage and it provides more of a recap of previous seasons.  What’s interesting is what it chooses to recap: single antagonists.  Last season marked a departure for the show as it took the focus off Dexter learning a valuable lesson from a big bad and instead developed a strong relationship with a new, not-evil character.  However, judging solely by this new promo, it’s possible that season six will be a return to form for America’s favorite serial killer.

Hit the jump to check out the promo.  No official premiere date has been announced for season six, but with the exception of the first season, every season of Dexter has premiered at the end of September.

New Volkswagen Commercial Features a Diminutive Darth Vader

Back when Darth Vader was still Anakin Skywalker, he practiced The Force at his parent’s suburban home. No, not really, but in a commercial for the Volkswagen Passat 2012, a mini Star Wars fan fruitlessly tests his powers on various objects around the house, as John Williams’ classic “The Imperial March (Darth Vader’s Theme)” accompanies him through his trek.

In this very cute commercial, the pint-sized Darth Vader makes various attempts on an exercise bike, the family dog, the washing machine and a doll, but to no avail. His last hope is his dad’s Passat, and even he seems surprised when his power finally works… thanks to some extra help.  Check out the ad after the jump.

Trailer for CG Zombie Film A.D. Hits the Web

A.D. movie image.jpg

A trailer for an animated zombie flick called A.D. has just popped up on YouTube [via boingboing.net] and it’s freakin’ amazing.  Unfortunately, there’s currently no guarantee of a feature film to follow.  Writer Haylar Garcia and director Ben Hibon are still in search of a studio and are using the 1 ½ minute preview to generate interest;  hopefully, it’ll work, because this brief glimpse at the sleek and somber vision of post-apocalyptica that they’ve got in mind has seriously whetted my appetite for some CG zombie mayhem.  And it looks like this’ll be more than a straight-up hack-and-slash affair.  Just what type of market there’ll be for a down-beat animated zombie film is unclear, but I’m praying some studio takes a chance on this.  Hit the jump to get your first look at A.D. and to read an excerpt from an interview with the creative team:
