First Images and Synopsis for VEHICLE 19 Starring Paul Walker

by     Posted 3 years, 45 days ago

Straight out of the American Film Market, we’ve got the first images and a brief synopsis for the indie thriller Vehicle 19. The film stars Paul Walker, who is also an executive producer on the project, and centers on a foreign traveler who picks up the wrong rental car and ends up caught in the middle of a police corruption scandal. This isn’t your typical thriller though, because the hook of Vehicle 19 is that the entire film was shot from inside this one car. Written and directed by South African filmmaker Mukunda Michael Dewil, the film is an atypical action pic. Hit the jump to check out the images and the synopsis, as well as some thoughts from Dewil himself about the unique filmmaking approach.

by     Posted 3 years, 45 days ago

We’ve got another round up of stuff from the American Film Market to share with you today in the way of promo posters for Ass Backwards, Thunder Run, and Carnaval. Promo Poster for Jake Paltrow’s Sci-Fi Flick YOUNG ONES

by     Posted 3 years, 46 days ago

Straight from the American Film Market, we’ve got the first promo poster for the sci-fi pic Young Ones. The film is director Jake Paltrow’s (yes, the brother of Gwyneth) first since his 2006 feature directorial debut The Good Night. While info on the pic is scarce, the film is said to have Elle Fanning attached to star in a story set in the not too distant future where water is a scarce commodity (per Ion Cinema). The film centers on a cowboy grieving over the death of his father when he finds out that his father’s killer has just moved in with his sister. Greenberg and The Squid and the Whale writer-director Noah Baumbach may or may not be producing the pic, which sounds like an intense character drama highlighted by touches of sci-fi. The promo poster boasts the tagline “Not all children have a childhood” and features a young boy carrying a gun, against a desert-like landscape augmented by what looks to be a large robot/machine. Hit the jump to check it out.

TOP 5: A VERY HAROLD AND KUMAR 3D CHRISTMAS, BREAKING DAWN, 21 JUMP STREET, Albert Brooks Interview, American Film Market Coverage

by     Posted 3 years, 46 days ago

Happy Saturday, folks. I’m writing to you this week surrounded by a mountain of used facial tissue (that’s right, I’m not endorsing Kleenex on the site without some sort of kick back…wait, dang it). Cold season has officially set in which means I’m on a daily regimen of Dayquil (which I have no problem endorsing), warm tea, and self-pity. In case you’re a longtime reader of the “Top 5″ and you’re wondering to yourself, “Wasn’t Jason just complaining about the summer heat?”, the answer is yes. Out of the 52 yearly weeks, I’m generally not complaining about the weather for approximately 2 or 3 of them. It’s sad, I know.

In this week’s “Top 5″ you can find our video interviews with the cast of A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, press conferences with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and more from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 junket, the red band trailer for Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum’s  21 Jump Street, a sit-down with the great Albert Brooks, and our coverage to date of this year’s American Film Market. Find a brief recap and link to each after the jump.

First Synopsis and Promo Poster for NOW YOU SEE ME Starring Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson

by     Posted 3 years, 48 days ago

Director Louis Letterier’s heist-thriller Now You See Me is quickly becoming one of my most anticipated films of 2013. It’s got a stellar cast (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco and Melanie Laurent), an intriguing/adventurous premise, and magic! Lots and lots of magic. The story centers on a group of magicians who pull off bank heists during their death-defying acts, and the FBI squad tasked with catching them. Today we’ve got the first full synopsis and a promo poster for the pick from the American Film Market, which you can check out after the jump.

The film was written by Boaz Yakin (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) & Edward Ricourt, Josh Applebaum & Andre Nemec (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol), and Ed Solomon (Men in Black). Now You See Me opens January 18th, 2013.

First Images, Poster, and Synopsis from Teen Drama NOW IS GOOD Starring Dakota Fanning

by     Posted 3 years, 48 days ago

More promotional material from AFM, y’all—and Now Is Good has to be one of the more intriguing projects to come out of the convention.  Dakota Fanning stars as Tessa, a 17-year-old diagnosed with a terminal illness: “She determines to use every moment, compiling a catalogue of what normal teenager would experience, including losing her virginity and taking drugs.”  Fanning has been a talented actor since she was in utero, and she will surely put together a great performance with this meaty role.  But I’m drawn to the young supporting cast.  Anyone who watches Skins can speak to the screen presence of Kaya Scoledario.  And Jeremy Irvine is poised to be The Next Big Thing, groomed by none other than Steven Spielberg in his debut feature War Horse.

Olivia Williams and Paddy Considine also star in Now Is Good, written and directed by Ol Parker.  Hit the jump for the images, promo poster, and synopsis. [Update: The images have been removed at the request of the studio.]

See the Logo for the EVIL DEAD Remake

by     Posted 3 years, 49 days ago

A remake of the 1981 horror classic The Evil Dead is in the works over at Sam Raimi‘s Ghost House Pictures.  This news met a mostly wary reception from fans, but the project has a few points in its favor.  Raimi and Bruce Campbell—the director and star of Evil Dead—are on board along with original producer Rob Tapert.  Raimi handed off the project to newcomer Fede Alvarez, probably the smart move to introduce a fresh voice to the material.  Additionally, Diablo Cody (Juno) was brought on to revise Alvarez’s script, which bodes well for a crackling script.

Ghost House unveiled the logo for The Evil Dead at AFM today.  Rather, the logo for Evil Dead, no “the”.  The initial announcement referred to the project with the full The Evil Dead—I am curious to see if the “the” is gone forever.  (This is the minutia that interests me.)  Hit the jump for the official synopsis and to see the logo in high resolution.

First Images, Promo Poster, and Synopsis for the Surfing Drama DRIFT Starring Sam Worthington

by     Posted 3 years, 49 days ago

From AFM, we have the first images, poster, and synopsis for the surfing drama Drift.  Set in 1970s Austrailia, Drift centers on two brothers (Xavier Samuel and Myles Pollard) who launch a surf gear business, selling merchandise out of the back of their van.  For me, the main takeaway is the scruffy beard and shaggy hair cut sported by the normally clean-cut Sam Worthington, playing a surf photographer and filmmaker who travels with his a gorgeous Hawaiian surfer (Lesley-Ann Brandt)

Ben Nott and Morgan O’Neill directed Drift.  See the images, poster, and synopsis after the jump.

Synopsis and Promo Poster for Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Project

by     Posted 3 years, 49 days ago

All eyes were on writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson as to what project he would be taking on after his 2007 tour-de-force There Will Be Blood. It took a few years, but he finally settled on a new untitled project that centers on the leader/creator of a faith-based organization and his followers. The stellar cast includes Philip Seymour Hoffman as the organization’s leader and Joaquin Phoenix as a young drifter who Hoffman sets as his right-hand-man, as well as Amy Adams, Laura Dern, Jesse Plemons, and David Warshovsky. Steve was able to grab a synopsis for the film at AFM earlier today, as well as a simple promo poster. Hit the jump to check them out.
