Marvel’s Agent Carter isn’t set to kick off until 2015, but Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will use this time to pave the way for Peggy Carter’s (Hayley Atwell) spinoff show by including a 1940s flashback in the first episode of season 2.

Peggy Carter made her big screen debut in 2011, serving as the female lead in Captain America: The First Avenger and also popped up in Captain America: The Winter Solider as well, but her appearance on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will mark her television debut.  After that, it’s on to her very own show next year.  Hit the jump for more.  Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to ABC on September 23rd at 9/8c.

The ABC drama series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is returning for Season 2 on September 23rd with Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) as the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., and rebuilding the organization torn apart by Hydra won’t be easy.  In the meantime, you can either catch up or relive the action-packed twists and turns of the first season’s 22 episodes, and all of the behind-the-scenes features and deleted scenes, on Blu-ray/DVD.

During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen talked about what they were most proud of with the first season, stand-out fight scenes, whether they always knew the twist with Agent Ward (Brett Dalton), viewing Season 2 as a sequel where they can just pick up where they left off, that the questions asked last season will be answered soon, the journey of the new wild card Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., what Lucy Lawless is bringing to the show, Easter eggs, funny behind-the-scenes moments, deciding which comic book characters to introduce, the dog controversy, and the new later time slot.  Check out what they had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Throughout the first season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (available on Blu-ray/DVD on September 9th), audiences were able to see the evolution of Mike Peterson (J. August Richards), an ordinary man who has been given superhuman strength and abilities, into the comic book character Deathlok.  He became something scary and dangerous, but above it all, he’s still a man who only wants to do what’s best for his son.

During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor J. August Richards talked about how being a part of the Marvel universe is a childhood fantasy come to life, that he has over a thousand comic books in his own collection, reuniting with both Joss Whedon and Jeff Bell, what it’s like to be involved with the show’s fandom through social media, how he only originally signed on for the pilot episode with no idea of what was to come, his reaction when he found out that he’d be evolving into Deathlok, that he likes totally relinquishing control and putting yourself in the hands of the writers, where he’d like to see the character go next, who he’d like to see Deathlok go up against and who he’d like to see him team up with, and a stunt mishap that he thinks ended up on the gag reel.  Check out what he had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Two New TV Spots for AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Remind Us It’s a “Make or Break Moment”

I heard that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. improved once the show was transformed by the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and I hope that the new season is good enough to bring back those who abandoned the show earlier in season one (myself included).  As Coulson points out in one of two new TV spots, “This is a make or break moment.”  Perhaps working “in the shadows” is a better approach for the series and now that expectations have been lowered, it can bounce back.  And if not, there’s still Agent Carter to look forward to.

Hit the jump to check out the new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV spots.  Season two premieres Tuesday, September 23rd at 9pm, and stars Clark Gregg, Chloe Bennet, Brett Dalton, Ming-Na Wen, Iain De Caestecker, and Elizabeth Henstridge.

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Hires Adrianne Palicki to Guest Star as Bobbi Morse a.k.a Mockingbird

After the incredibly disappointing first season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. the series is returning with a new gameplan: guest stars, guest stars, and guest stars.  Kyle MacLachlan is playing Skye’s father; Lucy Lawless is playing veteran S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Isabelle Hartley; and Reed Diamond is playing Hydra baddie Daniel Whitehall (a.k.a Kraken).  THR is now reporting that Adrianne Palicki will be making an appearance this season as Bobbi Morse, a.k.a. Mockingbird.  According to THR, Morse “will appear in the fifth episode of the Marvel procedural with the potential to return; the episode will find her popping in perhaps not as an ally to Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team.”  While Palicki is a likable presence, her casting and the casting of other guest stars doesn’t address the show’s larger problem like the bad writing, dull main characters, and crummy special effects.  Hopefully, season two is where Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. comes into its own instead of being that TV thing Marvel does.

Hit the jump for the Comic-Con video where agents Billy Koenig and Sam Koenig (Patton Oswalt and Patton Oswalt) teased the appearance of Morse in the new season.

Admittedly, I gave up on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. four episodes in so have little to no clue about what went down towards the end of season 1, but apparently something popped up to make viewers think that a new element of the Marvel Universe could be joining the show.  In fact, someone shot a video of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 set and caught a glimpse of a certain something that could prove the rumors true.

Hit the jump to check out the video for yourself.  Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is making its way back to ABC for season two on Tuesday, September 23rd at 9pm and stars Clark Gregg, Chloe Bennet, Brett Dalton, Ming-Na Wen, Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth HenstridgeWarning! Season one of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is all wrapped up for the year, but the super spies have one last treat for their faithful viewers.  While the show definitely had some growing pains (chronicled by our own Evan Valentine’s weekly recaps) and plenty of unintentionally hilarious moments, this new blooper reel is an absolute delight.  Watch Clark Gregg get attacked by a rogue fly, Ming-Na Wen get tongue-tied, and Chloe Bennet welcome you to Chloe’s Corner.  Co-stars Brett Dalton, Iain De Caestecker, and Elizabeth Henstridge get their own share of the giggles in this behind-the-scenes look.

Season one of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will debut on Blu-ray/DVD on September 9th.  Hit the jump to watch the season one blooper reel.

Shortly after the Marvel TV panel at Comic-Con on Friday, I was able to participate in a roundtable interview with cast members Clark Gregg, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Iain de Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, and executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeph Loeb, and Jeffrey Bell. If you watch Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., you know there was a huge revelation about Brett Dalton’s character, Grant Ward. Many had wondered if Dalton would be returning for season two, but with his appearance at Comic-Con and having participated in interviews for the show, it’s safe to assume that he will be back. Also, with the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, S.H.I.E.L.D. has all but been completely obliterated.

During the roundtable interviews, the actors and producers talked about how The Winter Soldier will affect the show going forward, when the rest of the Avengers will discover that Agent Coulson is still alive, the show’s relationship to the new ABC series Marvel’s Agent Carter, and so much more.  Hit the jump to read the full interviews.

Marvel announced exciting details about its new show Agent Carter and confirmed a variety of guest stars for the second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in front of a packed Ballroom 20 crowd at Comic-Con. Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel TV, revealed that they’re bringing back in-house favorites to direct the first four episodes of Agent Carter’s eight-episode run, which debuts in 2015. Louis D’Esposito, who directed the Agent Carter one-shot, will direct the first episode, while Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo are tapped to helm episodes two and three. Joe Johnston, the director of Captain America: The First Avenger, “wants to do episode four if his schedule allows,” Loeb said.

Marvel’s
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
had a tough time at first.  It didn’t get the best critical reception and saw its ratings slip as the season progressed.  Having lost interest after the fourth episode, clearly I can’t comment, but our own Evan Valentine pointed out that things did improve after a certain big twist.  Perhaps I’ll have to take his word for it because not only did Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. score a second season, but it also just added Xena star Lucy Lawless to the cast.

Since playing Xena, Lawless has been all over the place on the TV side of the business having appeared on Battlestar Galactica, Spartacus, Parks and Recreation and more.  Hit the jump for more on Lawless’ casting as well as the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Marvel’s Agent Carter San Diego Comic-Con crossover poster.  Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns on Tuesday, September 23rd at 9/8c and Agent Carter will premiere in January 2015.

Comic-Con 2014 Schedule for Friday, July 25th Includes GAME OF THRONES, THE WALKING DEAD, and HORNS

comic-con-2014-schedule-friday

The Friday schedule for San Diego Comic-Con 2014 has been announced.  It’s actually pretty tame as far as Hall H goes, with Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead being the highlight panels of the day.  RADiUS-TWC will make its SDCC debut with Horns, in which Daniel Radcliffe will also make his first appearance at Comic-Con.  Outside of Hall H, there’s also plenty of TV panels to go around, with The Legend of Korra, Arrow, Archer, Bob’s Burgers, Bates Motel, and a special Marvel TV panel all taking place.  Fox has also blocked out two hours in Hall H, during which time it’s expected to preview The Maze Runner, Kingsmen: The Secret Service, Let’s Be Cops, the animated Book of Life, and Hitman: Agent 47.  There have also been rumblings that we might get a peek at The Fantastic Four, which would make sense.

Hit the jump to take a look at some highlights from Friday’s schedule, and click here if you missed the Wednesday/Thursday schedule. Comic-Con 2014 runs from July 23rd to July 27th.

Based on an incredibly inspiring true story, Million Dollar Arm is so much more than just a sports film.  It tells the story of sports agent JB Bernstein (Jon Hamm), who comes up with a scheme to save his career by finding the next Major League Baseball star among the totally raw and untapped talent in India.  Once there, he finds two 18-year-old boys, Rinku (Suraj Sharma) and Dinesh (Madhur Mittal), whose knack for throwing a fastball could quite possibly lead them straight to a major league contract.

At the film’s press day, co-stars Alan Arkin (who plays retired baseball scout Ray Poitevint) and Bill Paxton (who plays Coach Tom House) spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about what attracted them to this film, what gets them to sign on for a project, in general, what it was like to work in India, and the great admiration they have for their young Indian co-stars.  Paxton also talked about what it was like to be welcomed into the Marvel Universe for his role on the ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Tuesday TV Ratings: AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Finale Holds Steady; GLEE Finale Falls to Series Low

tv-ratings-agents-of-shield-beginning-of-the-end

TV ratings are in for Tuesday, May 13th, including a number of season finales.  Briefly:

  • Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. closed out its uneven freshman season with a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demo and scored 5.23 million viewers, which matches last week’s performance.  ABC has already renewed the show for a second season, so Agent Coulson and Co. will return this fall.  Read Evan’s recap of the episode here.
  • On the flipside, Fox’s Glee closed out its fifth season with a series low 0.6 rating and a mere 1.92 million viewers, dropping 25% from last week’s numbers.  Though Fox has already ordered a sixth and final season, don’t be surprised if the episode count for next year is lower than normal.
