almost-human-cancelled

Well, Karl Urban and Michael Ealy, you had a good run, albeit a short one.  Word has it that Fox has cancelled the J.H. Wyman sci-fi series, Almost Human.  Set in 2048 Los Angeles, Urban starred as Detective John Kennex, a snarky cop with some cybernetic enhancements and a sizable chip on his shoulder.  Partnered with Dorian (Ealy), a defunct model of android that was shelved for behaving too much like a volatile human, Kennex eventually gets over his artificial prejudices and learns to work in concert with his almost-human cohort.  Sadly, their buddy cop days are at an end.  Hit the jump for more.

Lili Taylor Talks ALMOST HUMAN, Wanting to Play a Cop, Getting Her Character into the Field, The Success of THE CONJURING, and More

The Fox series Almost Human, from creator J.H. Wyman (Fringe) and executive producer J.J. Abrams, is a high-tech, high-stakes action drama set 35 years in the future, when police officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids.   An unlikely and intriguing partnership is forged when part-machine cop, John Kennex (Karl Urban), is forced to pair with the part-human android, Dorian (Michael Ealy), to investigate what is clearly a deep cover-up.  The show also stars Lili Taylor, Minka Kelly, Mackenzie Crook and Michael Irby.

During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, actress Lili Taylor, who plays police captain Sandra Maldonado, talked about how she came to be playing a character originally written as a man, why she wanted to play a cop, what it’s been like to work with this cast, adjusting to never really knowing where your character is going next, how she’d love for her character to get out in the field more, and what she thinks about this representation of the future.  She also talked about her desire to find a balance between film, television and theater, and why she thinks The Conjuring became so successful.  Check out what she had to say after the jump.

ALMOST HUMAN Recap: “Arrhythmia”

by     Posted 317 days ago

almost-human-slice

Almost Human finished up its truncated first run of episodes (it’s on a break until January) with a strong hour focusing on illegal organ transplants.  Only six episodes in, the series already has a good patter, and has established its world and its major characters in a familiar but engaging way.

“Arrhythmia’s” trajectory felt a lot like a Law and Order episode, where good, methodical police work leads the detectives down a rabbit hole to get their ultimate prize (they may encounter small-fry crooks along the way, but the kingmaker is saved until last).  This winding tale may have been a traditional approach, but that doesn’t diminish its ability to entertain, which it certainly did.  Hit the jump for why, “just because something is used, doesn’t meant it lacks value.”
