Sadly, there is no new American Horror Story episode to air or recap to post tonight. As the show’s first season finale aired last week, there won’t be any more good old fashioned American gore until September or October of 2012. Rest assured, FX has renewed the show for a second season and co-creator Ryan Murphy indicated last week that we can expect all new actors playing all new characters in an all new location next year, but we’ll have to wait until the writers shore all that up when they reconvene in February. In the meantime, we have a look back at season one of American Horror Story by the cast and crew of the hit, Golden Globe-nominated show. Hit the jump to see the videos.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY Season Finale Recap: Afterbirth

This is it, folks-the moment you’ve all been waiting for! We’ve followed the Harmons from day one as they picked up their dysfunctional lives back in Boston and set their sights on familial rehabilitation in Los Angeles. What Ben (Dylan McDermott), Vivien (Connie Britton) and Violet (Taissa Farmiga) found was much, much more than they bargained for; as viewers, we can say the same. In what could have easily been a one-note series about a family living in a haunted house, American Horror Story used that device to explore social relationships, psychological trauma, and grisly moments in Hollywood history all while giving us memorable, complex characters and a helluva good time. If you’ve missed out on the fun that is Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy’s (Glee and Nip/Tuck) twisted creation, check out all of our previous recaps here. For the AHS initiated, hit the jump for my recap of season one’s final episode, “Afterbirth,” as well as my retrospective.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY Recap: Birth

When last we left the Harmons, their family ties were being stretched to the limits while the ghosts of the house were busy plotting ways to kidnap Vivien’s (Connie Britton) soon-to-be-born twins. If the above sentence makes little sense to you, I suggest catching up on our previous recaps before reading any further. Tonight’s episode “Birth” begins the conclusion of the opening season of FX’s American Horror Story. Viewers who have been with the series from the beginning have watched the Harmon family discover the secrets of the Murder House as well as a host of secrets they’ve been hiding from each other. Unlike many other suspense series on TV, American Horror Story doesn’t keep you waiting and guessing for long. Tonight’s episode proved no different, giving us answers to some questions we haven’t even asked yet as well as one big shock I didn’t see coming. Hit the jump for my recap.

This is a fair warning to anyone who is reading this and hasn’t been keeping up with our American Horror Story recaps: turn back now or risk ruining some fantastic surprises from this series. When last we left the Harmon house, we learned that Vivien’s (Connie Britton) twins had, not one, but two fathers. We also watched as Ben (Dylan McDermott) came to certain revelations about the house and its inhabitants. Hayden (Kate Mara) was up to her old tricks again and ill-advisedly added a new member to the ghost line-up: Travis (Michael Graziadei). The episode “Spooky Little Girl” ended with a spoon-fed foreshadowing of the birth of Vivien’s demonic (read: antichrist) baby. But what have the other kids, Violet (Taissa Farmiga) and Tate (Evan Peters) been up to? Hit the jump to find out.

If you haven’t been keeping up with American Horror Story by creators Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy (Glee, Nip/Tuck), go get caught up on our previous recaps before proceeding any further. On last week’s episode, “Rubber Man,” we found that it was indeed Tate Langdon (Evan Peters) running around in the S&M suit. It seems that Tate is just as comfortable in the suit as he is without it, as he and Violet (Taissa Farmiga) took their relationship to the next level. Tate’s mom, Constance (Jessica Lange) was none too pleased with his behavior, as we found out in tonight’s episode, “Spooky Little Girl.” But Tate isn’t the only horny ghost running around, as Hayden (Kate Mara) continues to use her wiles to manipulate the living and the dead alike. Lots to talk about, so hit the jump for my recap.

Now that we’re officially past the half-way point of American Horror Story, we can expect the Harmons (and friends) to get a little crazier with each episode. Last weeks episode, “Open House,” gave us a peek into Larry Harvey’s (Denis O’Hare) life and further confirmed the secrets of the house. The preview for this week’s show, “Rubber Man,” promised us that we would find out who’s been creeping around in the rubber S&M suit. They teased us that it was Chad (Zachary Quinto), but was that just a red (or black) herring? (If you have no idea what I’m talking about, perhaps you should click here to get caught up on American Horror Story. Everyone else, hit the jump for my recap.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY Recap: “Open House”

When last we met, the folks behind American Horror Story had cleared up two plot points for us: the mortality of Tate (Evan Peters) and the status of Vivien’s (Connie Britton) baby. In my recap of last week’s episode, I mentioned that the preview for tonight’s show would highlight the back-story of Larry Harvey (Denis O’Hare) and would feature the younger version of Moira (Alexandra Breckinridge). The 7th episode of American Horror Story, “Open House,” gave us all that and more, as we learned an interesting secret from Larry’s past and were introduced to another member of Constance’s (Jessica Lange) family. AMERICAN HORROR STORY Recap: “Piggy Piggy”

Last week, we kicked off our recaps of FX’s American Horror Story. You folks seemed to like it, so here we go again with this week’s episode, “Piggy Piggy.” While I was unconvinced as to Tate’s (Evan Peters) mortality status right up through the first few minutes of this episode, the writers removed all doubt tonight. Honestly, the entirety of the plot seemed focused on hammering in two points: one on Tate’s live/dead status and one on Vivien’s (Connie Britton) baby status. More on that in a minute.

I mentioned in the last recap that I felt the first four episodes of the series served an introductory purpose and that the previous episode was a “soft finale” for that arc. “Piggy Piggy” didn’t really advance any new storylines, so much as clarify the old ones. Luckily, it looks like next week’s episode will break some new ground. Hit the jump for my recap.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY Recap: “Halloween Part 2”

Hopefully you took our advice last week when we told you FX would be re-airing episodes of their new hit American Horror Story and that you should check them out. If you haven’t yet, I’d advise doing a little background on the series before reading on, otherwise you’ll be woefully lost. We’re going to try an episode recap, like we do for Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead. If you like it let us know and we’ll keep bringing them to you as new episodes air. Since FX ordered a second season of American Horror Story, this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Last night, a new episode aired, which was the conclusion to the two-part Halloween special. It answered some questions both explicitly and through some deductive logic. Hit the jump for my review.
