As part of the TCA Press Tour presentation for FX, President & General Manager of FX Networks John Landgraf took some time to talk about their current hit series, new shows, and what they see as possibilities for their future line-up. During the interview, he spoke about the importance of establishing trust with your showrunners, having strong female leads at the center of their upcoming drama series The Americans and The Bridge, what he’s heard about casting for Season 3 of American Horror Story, the plan for the next 90 episodes of Anger Management and the tweaking they’ve done to the show, how he sees It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia having a 10-season run, and broadcaster responsibility, in regard to violence on television. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

FX seems to have a great relationship with their showrunners. What is the secret to having a show that does well, and giving them the freedom that they want, to tell the story that they want?

JOHN LANDGRAF: I think maybe the most important thing that I or anybody at my company and any of my colleagues can do is establish a trusting, productive, collaborative relationship with creative people. I think that’s job one. And that can’t be a passive relationship because you have serious and difficult things to talk about with somebody who does a show on your air. You’re going to have bad moments, and you’re going to have fights and arguments. I don’t think I ever ...

It doesn’t look like Charlie Sheen will be leaving the airwaves anytime soon. It was announced today that Sheen’s new series Anger Management has been picked up for a whopping 90 more episodes from FX. Sheen moved to the new series following his meltdown/firing from CBS’s Two and a Half Men, and the show was greenlight for 10 episodes with the possibility of a back-90 pickup should the series meet certain ratings guidelines. It appears that the show did indeed meet FX’s expectations, as the show averaged 4.53 million total viewers and 2.5 million in the coveted 18-49 demographic, for some reason.

Barring any more meltdowns or outrageously dickish behavior by Sheen (which is really not out of the question), this 90-episode order ensures that Anger Management will be up to 100 episodes by 2014, solidifying its place in the lucrative syndication market. Production on the second season begins this September and new episodes will begin airing in January. Hit the jump to read the press release.

Here’s the press release:
LOS ANGELES, August 29, 2012 – Anger Management, the sitcom starring Charlie Sheen and created by Executive Producer Bruce Helford, has received a 90-episode order from FX, it was announced today by Chuck Saftler, Executive Vice President of FX Networks.

As part of its original deal, if Anger Management met a designated average ratings threshold over the airing of eight of the first ten episodes of the series, then it would trigger an automatic, additional 90-episode order from the network. Anger Management is the highest-rated new comedy series ...

As part of the TCA Press Tour presentation for FX, President & General Manager of FX Networks John Landgraf took some time to talk about their current hit series, new shows, and what they see as possibilities for their future line-up. During the interview, he spoke about the status of American Horror Story as a mini-series and the differences in Season 2, the positive futures for both Wilfred and Justified, the possibility of the back 90 episode pick-up for Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management, why Sons of Anarchy always gets overlooked for Emmy Awards nominations, whether Powers might still make it to the air, and their pilots for The Americans (starring Kerri Russell), Bronx Warrants (from Denis Leary and Jim Serpico) and The Bridge (based on the Danish series of the same name). Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Question: Were you surprised to find out that American Horror Story was a mini-series?

JOHN LANDGRAF: We actually always knew that American Horror Story was going to be a mini-series, in the sense that we knew that it was a closed-ended show that had no continuing storylines or characters between the 13 episodes that were produced and aired, and subsequent seasons. That’s the definition of a mini-series. A mini-series is a show that has no continuing story or narrative elements between one group of episodes and another, so no, I wasn’t surprised.

What will the differences be, in Season 2?

LANDGRAF: The second season takes place in a different timeframe, in ...

In the new FX comedy series Anger Management, actor Charlie Sheen plays Charlie Goodson, a non-traditional therapist who has his own successful private practice, holding sessions with a group of regulars each week, as well as counseling a group of inmates at a state prison. In his family life, Sam (Daniela Bobadilla), the 15-year-old daughter that Charlie has with his ex-wife, Jennifer (Shawnee Smith), is insecure but intelligent, with a sardonic sense of humor and a case of OCD, that leads Charlie to dive into his therapist techniques to help her.

During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actress Daniela Bobadilla talked about her audition process for the show, how she and Charlie Sheen just immediately clicked, how quirky and complex her character is, having Shawnee Smith play her mother, and being on set when Sheen and guest star Denise Richards shot their scenes together. She also talked about her experience playing a pregnant teenager on the NBC drama series Awake (that starred Jason Isaacs), what she thought of the series finale, and the difference between the quick schedule of a sitcom and the deeper character exploration of a one-hour drama. Check out what she had to say after the jump.

Collider: How did you come to be a part of this show? Were you just doing a round of pilot auditions, or was there something specific about this show that appealed to you?

DANIELA BOBADILLA: Well, I was actually doing Awake, at the time this audition came up. In between shooting for ...

In the new FX comedy series Anger Management, actor Charlie Sheen plays Charlie Goodson, a non-traditional therapist who has his own successful private practice, holding sessions with a group of regulars each week, as well as counseling a group of inmates at a state prison. Prior to being an anger management therapist, Charlie was a minor league baseball prospect whose road to the majors was sidetracked by his own struggle with anger issues, making him the perfect person to understand what his patients are going through. The show also stars Selma Blair, Shawnee Smith, Daniela Bobadilla, Noureen DeWulf, Michael Arden, Derek Richardson, Barry Corbin, Michael Boatman and Brett Butler.

In this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, the refreshingly honest and passionate creator/showrunner/executive producer Bruce Helford (The Drew Carey Show, The George Lopez Show) talked about developing this idea into a series, the process of shooting 10 episodes and then waiting on a pick-up for the back 90 episodes (giving them 100 episodes by 2014), collaborating with show star Charlie Sheen, what he would say to people wondering whether or not to tune in, how crucial the casting choices were, how the actors stick to the script with no improvisation, and how nerve-wracking it is to debut a show that has so much buzz. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Collider: Did you intentionally through in as many story possibilities as you could with this, so you always had somewhere to go with it?

BRUCE HELFORD: Yes, we tried ...

It turns out America’s morbid fascination with love for Charlie Sheen has not diminished. After a very public meltdown led to his dismissal from CBS juggernaut Two and a Half Men last year, the troubled star took his act to FX last night. The first two episodes of his new sitcom Anger Management debuted to the best ratings for a scripted comedy in cable history (not including kids’ shows). Episode one, at 9 pm, topped all-time records in both overall viewers (5.47 million) and the key 18-49 demographic (2.65 million). Episode two, at 9:30, bested it by attracting 5.74 mil total and 2.89 mil in the 18-49 demo. As a point of reference, more typical FX comedy Wilfred later premiered to 2.53 mil total and 1.2 mil in 18-49.

Anger Management sees Sheen stepping into the role of ex-ball player, current anger management coach Charlie Goodson, who gets up to hijinks involving his ex-wife (Shawnee Smith), therapist (Selma Blair), teenaged daughter (Daniela Bobadilla) and various clients (Noureen DeWulf, Barry Corbin). Hit the jump for more.

Per THR, if the ratings continue to hit a certain mark over the coming weeks, an order for 90 additional episodes from distributor Debmar-Mercury will kick in, keeping Sheen on the air for…ever, basically. In the wake of the two-part debut, the show will settle into its regular time slot, Thursdays at 9:30, beginning next week.

Critics have not been quite as enthusiastic about the more-or-less traditional canned-laughter sitcom, though some seem to think it has potential. It’s ...

Spring hasn't even started yet, but FX is already making moves to get you ready for a summer of television with new seasons of Wilfred starring Elijah Wood (the season premiere will have a guest star appearance by Robin Williams) and Louie with Louis C.K. In addition, the network has also revealed the premiere dates for their new series like Anger Management, marking the return of Charlie Sheen to a series since his crazy breakdown and departure from Two and a Half Men, and Russell Brand's non-scripted series Strangely Uplifting.

All of the series will premiere on Thursday, June 28th. Anger Management kicks off the comedy block at 9/8c with a two-episode premiere (the show's regular timeslot will be at 9:30/8:30c) followed by the second season premiere of Wilfred at 10/9c. Louie follows with its third season premiere at 10:30/9:30c followed by the debut of Russell Brand's show Strangely Uplifting at 11/10c, filmed in front of a live audience. This block sounds almost as impressive as NBC's Thursday night line-up and just might give it a run for its money. However, it all depends on how the two new series pan out. For a full press release with plenty more information on all these series, hit the jump.

Here's the full press release:
FX will be television’s comedy destination this summer with the return of two of its acclaimed original series, Louie and Wilfred, the debut of its new late-night original series Strangely Uplifting with Russell Brand, and Anger Management starring Charlie Sheen, ...

After cycling through hosts of women on his previous show Two and a Half Men, Charlie Sheen is on to new ventures and a new network with FX’s comedy series, Anger Management. Starring opposite Sheen will be, Selma Blair (Hellboy), in the form of a therapist/love interest for Sheen’s character, Charlie. Blair is one of two female roles on the show (the other being Shawnee Smith (Saw) who will play Charlie’s ex-wife) which has an initial 10-episode order from FX. Hit the jump for more from Anger Management, as well as details on Bobby Cannavale's character in season three of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.

Deadline reported that Sheen was ecstatic about working with Blair, who was one of the actresses invited to audition for the two roles and one of two finalists for the position. If Anger Management reaches a ratings target in their initial run of episodes, FX will order a 90 episode production on an accelerated schedule.

Meanwhile, Deadline also reported that the HBO period gangster piece, Boardwalk Empire, will have a new face in Atlantic City. Bobby Cannavale (Will & Grace) will play Gyp Rosetti, a charming mobster with a ruthless streak who acts as a challenge to Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi). Cannavale recently wrapped up a ten-episode arc on Nurse Jackie and production on Lovelace. Boardwalk Empire recently netted two SAG Awards for best drama ensemble and best actor (Buscemi). Cannavale will step in to fill the gap left by a series regular in this past season’s finale.

Those who don't remember the 2003 comedy Anger Management starring Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson can probably count themselves lucky for erasing the over-the-top comedy from their mind, but now audiences will have to deal with a new kind of Anger Management in the form of a new sitcom on FX starring Charlie Sheen. The new comedy series is loosely based on the aforementioned 2003 comedy film of the same name, and currently has a 10-episode order for its first season which will begin airing sometime in 2012. The Drew Carey Show and George Lopez writer/producer Bruce Helford will executive produce and act as showrunner. Since the series is loosely based on the Adam Sandler film, I'm guessing it will follow Sheen's character as he works through some serious issues but with a dark comedic tone, hopefully along the lines of Louie. More after the jump.

Honestly, despite all the craziness surrounding Charlie Sheen, he seems to have quickly rebounded and been humbled by losing his spot on Two and a Half Men. And if there's one place the actor, who really does have some genuine talent, can land with some edgy comedy that is hopefully leaps and bounds better than his past CBS sitcom, it's FX. Personally I'm hoping the series is actually a solid new comedic venture and people won't be turning in hoping for a trainwreck. Here's the press release:
Former Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen will return to television in summer 2012 on FX in ...
