With Iron Man 3 crossing the $1 billion mark at the box office today, Marvel is currently enjoying its status at the top of the superhero movie food chain. The studio has a full slate of films hitting theaters over the next couple of years as part of its Phase Two plans, culminating in The Avengers 2 in 2015. However, even with the prospect of Thor and Captain America sequels and Guardians of the Galaxy on the horizon, fans are still clamoring for more, more, more. The studio’s Phase Three is a giant question mark at the moment, with only one film firmly slated for release to kick off a new batch of superhero movies: Ant-Man.

Director/co-writer Edgar Wright recently talked a bit about the film and why it’s taken so long to come to fruition, revealing that production will finally get underway next year. Hit the jump to read on.

Ant-Man is currently set to hit theaters on November 6, 2015, but it was actually one of the first films that Marvel Studios announced way back when they started working on Iron Man. Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright has been attached to helm this whole time, having penned the script with Joe Cornish, but Wright tells EW that he actually made the decision himself to put the film off for so long:
“I actually made the choice to make Scott Pilgrim and The World’s End before this one. And Ant-Man is such a big special-effects film, it’s almost like the further it goes on, the ...

Iron Man 3 opens this weekend so it's old news. It's six months until Thor: The Dark World so now we need to know almost everything about it. The sequel has Thor (Chris Hemsworth) reuniting with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), and faced with the new threat of sorcerer Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston) and his horde of dark elves. New director Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones) takes the action off of Earth and into the mystical realms that will lend themselves to some impressive sets and set pieces.

Hit the jump for what Kevin Feige, Marvel's President of Production, had to say about the Asgardian's upcoming adventure, and also comments on Edgar Wright's Ant-Man. The film also stars Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo, and Anthony Hopkins. Thor: The Dark World opens in 3D on November 8th. Click here for Feige's comments on Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Avengers 2.

First up, here's the new image from Thor: The Dark World via EW:

Feige tells EW that Thor, like Tony Stark, has also been affected by the events of The Avengers, specifically in terms of his relationship with Loki. The Marvel head also talked about how Taylor is designing the look and feel of the sequel:
“Alan is bringing a grittier, more visceral, more textured patina to the designs of the worlds, and to Asgard in particular,” Feige says. “It’s less to chase either Game of Thrones or Lord ...

In addition to recently talking about Iron Man 3, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also spoke about Phase Two and Phase Three of the upcoming Marvel Movies. First, he talked about how Phase Two and The Avengers 2 will be about taking these characters deeper. Speaking to SFX Magazine, Feige says "Almost whatever the heck else is happening is gravy in that franchise, because all I care about is Bruce and Tony, Tony and Steve, Widow and Bruce – and how Thor fits into it, because he’s always the outsider amongst outsiders. So I think that’s where the value lies. And going deeper amongst those characters in those relationships." So it looks like when we finally come back around to The Avengers in 2015, we'll be seeing the same team but with a different mood based on what happened to the characters earlier in Phase Two.

However, we might be seeing some new members on the team as well. Hit the jump for more including what we might see from Doctor Strange.

Continuing on about The Avengers 2, Feige tells SFX that they like how the comics don't simply have one set team of Avengers and how they might like to play with that idea when the next film installment comes around:
"I think it’s not a secret that Joss and I and all of us at Marvel think that part of the fun of Avengers is the rotating team, for sure [laughs]."
That doesn't sound like a firm commitment to a rotating team, ...

Though Marvel Studios is incredibly secretive when it comes to developing projects, we’ve known about director Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man for quite a long while. Wright has been working on the script alongside co-writer Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) for the past few years, but he’s understandably been busy with his other directorial projects. The studio finally announced a release date for the film late last year, and at last summer’s Comic-Con Wright unveiled a test reel that demonstrated his fantastic visual approach to the character’s unique fighting style (ie. switching between normal size and ant-size within the blink of an eye).

With a 2015 release date approaching, Wright is gearing up to begin production on the film fairly soon. He recently provided a bit of an update on the film, talking about its relationship to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and why it took so long to come together. Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

Speaking with IGN, Wright explained that while he was eager to make Ant-Man, he wanted to make Scott Pilgriim vs. The World and complete his Blood & Ice Cream Trilogy with the upcoming The World’s End first:
“I’ve been collaborating with [Marvel boss] Kevin [Feige] during the whole of that cycle. I think people have always assumed… ‘Oh why is it taking so long to make?’ Part of it is because I wanted to make two other movies first. I wanted to make World’s End… me and Simon were very keen to make it ...

In a recent interview, Kevin Feige confirmed that Edgar Wright's Ant-Man would be the official starting point of Marvel's "Phase Three." What other films will be included in the post-Avengers 2 grouping? For starters, none other than the long-rumored Doctor Strange adaptation. Feige mentioned Doctor Strange in the same sentence as the "Phase Two" film Guardians of the Galaxy, since both pictures will be somewhat outside of the normal realm of core characters we've come to know and love. Hit the jump for more on "Phase Three" from Feige and an update on Iron Man 3 and Avengers 2.

Feige recently spoke to MTV about the slate of Marvel films starting in 2015. We know that Ant-Man will debut on November 6th of that year and here's what Feige had to say about the project:
"'Ant-Man' is definitely part of Phase Three. Like 'Iron Man 3,' it's certainly set in the Marvel Universe, but it's also through the lens of Edgar Wright — which is the only reason we're making the movie...I've known Edgar since our first lunch together at Comic-Con in 2004. He asked me what Marvel was doing with 'Ant-Man' — we weren't even a studio then; what a difference eight years makes! It's very much an 'Ant-Man' origin movie from the perspective of Edgar Wright and his co-writer Joe Cornish. It will of course be firmly planted in the MCU, but a different corner than we've seen before."
Feige went on to tease about other characters that we might see during "Phase Three," ...

Disney has just sent out a press release announcing release dates and changes for their upcoming slate of films. The most notable announcement is that Edgar Wright's Ant-Man finally has a release date. The little-big-superhero is due to hit theaters on November 6, 2015. Since this will be the first Marvel movie to follow The Avengers 2 (which opens May 1, 2015), I wouldn't be surprised if we see Hank Pym pop up in Joss Whedon's film.

Here's the rest of the list:

Iron Man 3 will now be available in 3D – previously announced 5/3/13 wide playdate is unchanged (Marvel)

Phineas and Ferb moves to “2014 Undated Wide” (from 7/28/13 wide)

Thor: The Dark World is final title of previous “Thor 2” and will now be available in 3D – previously announced 11/8/13 wide playdate is unchanged (Marvel)

Saving Mr. Banks is now dated on 12/20/13 wide (Disney)

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is final title of previous “Captain America 2” – previously announced 4/4/14 wide playdate is unchanged (Marvel)

Bears is now dated on 4/18/14 wide (Disneynature)

Guardians of the Galaxy is final title of previous “Marvel Untitled” - previously announced 8/1/14 is unchanged (Marvel)

DISNEY ANIMATION UNTITLED is now dated on 11/7/14 wide

PIXAR ANIMATION UNTITLED is now dated on Wed 11/25/15 wide

One of the highlights of Comic-Con this year was finally getting a tease of what writer/director Edgar Wright’s long-gestating Ant-Man film might look like. He and co-writer Joe Cornish have been developing the script at Marvel for a couple of years, but they took a big step closer to production by putting together a live-action test reel that visualized how Wright would bring the miniature superhero to life. The footage was short and unfinished, but it was pretty damn exciting. Wright’s signature style and comedic tone was wholly intact, but the reel also teased some seriously inventive and cool action sequences that we could see in the full film.

We’ve heard that Marvel may be releasing the finished footage to the public soon, but a fan and Deviant Artist has impressively put together a storyboard recreation of the footage that skews pretty close to what we saw. Hit the jump to take a look.

Video courtesy of Metacafe (via CBM), created by artist Samurai Jack:

Obviously this video lacks Wright’s effects, motion, and music, but for fans that weren’t at Comic-Con it’s a tad better than reading a text description of the footage. Wright is currently gearing up to shoot The World’s End next month with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, but recent reports have suggested that the filmmaker may finally start production on Ant-Man in London next year for a possible 2014 release. The comic adaptation doesn’t yet have a release date so that schedule could be pushed back a bit, but all signs point ...

Though we’ve watched a number of Marvel films move through the development stages over the years, culminating in their theatrical release, writer/director Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man has yet to actually move to the production phase even though it's been “in the works” for quite a few years. This wasn’t exactly a surprise, as Wright is an understandably busy guy (he referred to his development process on Ant-Man as “the Terrence Malick approach”), but fans of both Marvel and the filmmaker have been eager to see Ant-Man come to the big screen.

The project took a big step forward when Wright shot some test footage earlier this summer and then debuted it at Marvel’s Hall H panel at Comic-Con, and now it looks like we could be seeing Ant-Man finally come to fruition much sooner than previously expected. 2014, to be exact. Hit the jump for more.

A script for Ant-Man, by Wright and Attack the Block helmer Joe Cornish, has been in place for a number of months, and now wheels seem to be in motion to get the comic book adaptation in front of cameras next year. Steve recently sat down for an interview at Comic-Con with Marvel Studios Co-President and Item 47 director Louis D’Esposito, and the exec mused that Ant-Man “might be an opportunity” where they do three films in one year, adding that it could be possible to get the film finished in time for release alongside Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014.

On Friday night at Comic-Con, Marvel premiered their latest short film Item 47. Directed by Louis D'Esposito (Co- President of Marvel Studios) and starring Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Bradford, Maximiliano Hernández and Titus Welliver, Item 47 is about a hard-luck couple who get their hands on an alien gun that falls from the sky after the events of The Avengers. For more on the short (which will be available on The Avengers Blu-ray) click here.

The day after the premiere, I got to sit down with D'Esposito for an extended interview. We talked about being at Comic-Con, what props he owns, how he go to direct Item 47, if he had any additional money for the budget due to his position at the studio and whether the actors signed on for feature films. In addition, we also talked about the possibility of future short films premiering at Comic-Con, the success of The Avengers, if they'll release an extended Avengers directors cut in theaters, Ant-Man, deleted scenes that have never been released, if they'll ever make R-rated Marvel movies, the importance of bringing other Marvel characters to life, and a lot more. Hit the jump to watch.

As usual, I've time indexed the interview so you can watch the parts that interest you. Again, you can look forward to seeing Item 47 on the upcoming Avengers Blu-ray and DVD.

Saturday was a pretty great day in Hall H at Comic-Con 2012. We got Django Unchained, Pacific Rim, The Hobbit, Godzilla, Man of Steel, and more. But for the last panel of the day, Marvel reminded convention goers that Hall H is undeniably their house. Matt and I already brought you our recaps of the “upcoming projects” portion of the panel (which includes Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy) as well as the Iron Man 3 part, but now those of you not lucky enough to attend can take a gander at one of the more entertaining events of the whole Con.

True to form, Robert Downey Jr. entered Hall H from the back of the room with Luther Vandross pumping from the speakers and an Iron Man glove on his hand. The crowd went wild, and Marvel has now released the video online for all to see along with excerpts of footage from their entire panel, including Edgar Wright talking Ant-Man. Hit the jump to take a look, and catch up on all of our Comic-Con 2012 coverage here and here.

Watch RDJ's entrance below, followed by footage from the entire Marvel panel which includes Ant-Man talk and the cast/director of Iron Man 3.

Saturday’s Hall H panel for Marvel at Comic-Con was billed as Iron Man 3, but from previous experience we all knew to expect more goodies from Marvel Studios than just IM3. We were right, as the studio announced full, intriguing titles for Thor 2 and Captain America 2, confirmed Guardians of the Galaxy (including which characters will appear), and revealed test footage for Ant-Man with a surprise appearance by Edgar Wright.

Hit the jump for my full recap of this “update” portion of the Marvel panel. [Update: We've updated the article with concept art for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie as well as logos for all the upcoming Marvel films]

Feige opened the panel by saying that they’re working on four movies in active development. The first is Iron Man 3, hitting theaters on May 3rd, 2013. He then went on to reveal titles for two previously known sequels, and confirmed another property that we’d heard rumblings of in the past few weeks.

	Iron Man 3 (May 3, 2013)

Thor: The Dark World (November 8, 2013)

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4, 2014)
Guardians of the Galaxy (August 1, 2014)

For fans of the comics, the subtitle “The Winter Soldier” should provide a hint as to where the Captain America sequel will go. The title is a reference to a comics storyline that will find Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) taking an integral role.

Feige added that Zachary Levi has been confirmed as the character of Fandrel in the Thor sequel, and revealed the team that will ...

Although director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) is currently prepping to shoot The World's End, he's apparently found enough time to put together a test reel for an Ant-Man feature. The Marvel superhero is a scientist by the name of Hank Pym who can change his size at will, from the miniscule to the gigantic. He also possesses a helmet that lets him communicate with ants. Wright was originally attached to the project when Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk went into production, although Ant-Man was sidelined to make way for the origin movies of the heroes that would go on to star in The Avengers. Ironically, Ant-Man was a founding member of the superheroic assembly; perhaps, if Wright's test reel goes well, we'll see an Ant-Man feature and a follow-up appearance in The Avengers 2. Hit the jump for more.

Heat Vision reports that Wright and Ant-Man co-writer Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) quietly wrapped on the Ant-Man test reel recently. Read up on Wright's comments about the project here. The test reel isn't uncommon for movies that have a risky premise or have a stylized appearance; 300 and Battle: LA are prime examples. Wright had spent a little less than a week shooting in mid-June to get the tone of the film down and see how Pym's powers played out on camera. We'll have to wait and see how the studio reacts to what they're shown. In the meantime, Wright will start shooting The World's End this September ...

Fans have been curious about Marvel’s Ant-Man for quite some time. Edgar Wright is attached to direct, and he’s been working on the script for the past few years alongside Attack the Block’s Joe Cornish. The Avengers made an insane amount of money, so all eyes are on what Marvel Studios has coming up. Marvel president Kevin Feige recently revealed that there are two unannounced Marvel projects currently in development, in addition to Iron Man 3, Thor 2, and Captain America 2. With word that Ant-Man was coming along nicely, many were hoping that the superhero pic would be Wright’s next film. However, the director recently set a September start-date for a third film with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost called The World’s End.

Confirmation that The World’s End is finally happening was fantastic news, but fans were left wondering what that meant for Ant-Man. Wright recently appeared on Empire’s podcast and he talked a bit about fans being impatient regarding Ant-Man. Hit the jump for more.

Appearing on the Empire Online podcast (via CBR), Wright addressed fan frustration over the long development process for Ant-Man:
"I get quite superstitious because I don't feel like anybody -- websites and stuff -- quite understands how hard long it takes and because the film websites update hourly, it's like 'What's the fucking hold up? Just make it. Why isn't it coming out tomorrow?' But every film that I've made has taken like three years. Each one, it's been three years between movies. I would love ...

If smashing the opening weekend record by nearly $40 million wasn’t enough to convince you that The Avengers is a juggernaut hit, surely the film crossing the $1 billion mark worldwide in a mere 19 days sealed the deal. Naturally, all eyes are now on what Marvel Studios has coming up. Iron Man 3 begins production later this month, and we know that Thor 2 is set to shoot later this year followed by Captain America 2. Obviously The Avengers 2 will be coming down the line at some point, but I'd imagine the earliest we could see it in theaters would be 2015. There’s a May 2014 release date slotted for a currently unannounced Marvel pic, but Marvel Studios president recently revealed that there are actually two unnamed films currently in development. Hit the jump for more.

First off, here’s a refresher of Marvel’s release schedule that’s been announced thus far:

	Iron Man 3 on May 3rd, 2013
	Thor 2 on November 15th, 2013
	Captain America 2 on April 4th, 2014
Untitled Marvel Movie #1 on May 16th, 2014

Feige recently sat down with Bloomberg to talk about the studio’s future, and here’s the quote of interest (via THR) followed by the actual video:
“We want to do two films a year. Avengers is our only film this year, but in a week and a half we begin filming Iron Man 3. By the end of the summer we’ll be working on the next Thor film, early next year the next Captain America film. Those are ...

Writer-director Edgar Wright took to Twitter this weekend to tease his long-awaited adaptation of Marvel's Ant-Man. Wright has been attached to the project for years, but took time for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and now he's attached to direct Johnny Depp in The Night Stalker, and he's working on the script for The World's End with Simon Pegg. However, Ant-Man still has a strong possibility of being Wright's next picture. Marvel Studios' President of Production Kevin Feige says the project is "as close as it's ever been", and now Wright has posted an image on Twitter referencing the superhero.

Hit the jump to check out the image.

Here's what Feige said last month at the European premiere for The Avengers:
“It’s as close as it’s ever been. Edgar is getting excited to get behind the camera again and start some advanced prep work for Ant-Man… We are going to take some forward steps in a few months that will bring it closer than ever. In terms of release date, I don’t know.”
This past weekend, Wright posted this image with the following text:

Received this in the mail. What can it mean?
That's just about as mysterious as it gets. Was it a nudge from a fan? Was it from Marvel? The studio is almost certainly eager to start up some new superhero franchises after scoring a record-breaking weekend from The Avengers. Ant-Man is a controversial character (read this humorous recap of his exploits), but I have full faith in Wright and co-writer Joe Cornish ...

With less than a month before May 4 release date, the cast of The Avengers shot an additional scene last week. That was probably never meant to be public information, but nobody other than Robert Downey Jr. has any control over what RDJ decides to announce at press conferences. Marvel president Kevin Feige downplayed the importance of the additional shooting at the European premiere:
"I will tell you this: It was not a scene. It was not a scene. There’s little things. It’s been blown out of proportion. Which is fun, I like that things are blown out of proportion. Sometimes they’re true sometimes they’re not." [Blogomatic 3000]
Okay, so it was not "a scene." But it was something that they couldn't shoot with body doubles. The myth of what happened that night is almost certainly better than the truth, so maybe it's best we keep the mystery box shut. As always, Feige is a wealth of information on all things Marvel, so hit the jump for his recent comments on the status of Ant-Man and who owns the rights to Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.

Hey U Guys caught up with the forthright executive at that European premiere, and asked about Ant-Man, which has been in development under the stewardship of Edgar Wright for several years now. Feige responded:
"It's as close as it's ever been. Edgar is getting excited to get behind the camera again and start some advanced prep work for Ant-Man... We are going ...

With Marvel and Disney's The Avengers opening around the world in the coming weeks, last night was the world premiere in Hollywood and it was also the first time members of the press were shown the film. As you may have already read on my Twitter feed, I loved it and think Joss Whedon delivered a movie that both fans and casual moviegoers are going to love. Also, it's really funny and it has the best action of any Marvel movie thus far.

Anyway, just an hour ago I got to sit down with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. Since I already posted an in depth conversation with him when I visited the set of The Avengers last year, I decided to use my limited time to discuss Marvel's future projects like Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2, the Avengers sequel and whether Joss Whedon is signed to come back, what movies are coming in 2014 and 2015, Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, if Marvel is making an animated movie, another Hulk movie, and so much more. Hit the jump for more.

Since I know some of you like reading the highlights, here's a few of the things I learned during the interview:

He’s seen an unfinished version of The Amazing Spider-Man and says it is excellent and should quiet concerns over the idea of rebooting the franchise.
They have an option for Whedon to direct The Avengers 2 when and if the time comes.
There are currently no plans to do a new Hulk ...

In order to build a film like The Avengers, Marvel had to look far in advance and make sure that their major superhero films contributed to the upcoming blockbuster crossover. Even if The Avengers is a massive flop (and that's highly unlikely), Marvel is already making its plans for The Avengers 2. Speaking at New York Comic-Con this weekend, Marvel Studios' President of Production Kevin Feige talked about the company's future films. Unsurprisingly, Iron Man 3 will be part of what Feige calls "Phase Two of this Avengers Assemble talk."

So what else will be part of "Phase Two"? Hit the jump for more. The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4, 2012. Feige says they'll be continuing their tradition of including a brief scene post-credits [via Cinemablend].

There's no set date for The Avengers 2, but it will be coming after Iron Man 3 (May 3, 2013) as well as Thor 2 (November 15, 2013). However, that still leaves Captain America 2 on the table as well as the planned spin-offs for Black Widow, Hawkeye, and possibly S.H.I.E.L.D. Then throw on to the pile Marvel's next non-sequel, non-spinoff films: Ant-Man, The Inhumans, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Ant-Man seems like an easy fit for The Avengers 2 since it's just one more character and sequels always demand fresh blood. However, The Inhumans and Guardians of the Galaxy are teams and Feige has said that if those two movies make it all the way to the finish line, they're going to be ...
