One of the biggest movies of the year, Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, is now available to take home on Blu-ray. If you only saw the picture once, or even twice in the theaters, there’s likely quite a bit you missed. Luckily, the Blu-ray is packed full of behind-the-scenes featurettes and a multimedia commentary track that delves into every facet of the filmmaking process. And for those of you who want to minor in Kryptonian studies, the special features also explore the newly created language and alphabet, technology, and all-around culture of the inhabitants of Krypton, plus an in-depth look at the alien world itself.
Starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Antje Traue and Russell Crowe, Man of Steel is an enjoyable, yet absolutely detailed and expansive entry in the pantheon of Superman films. The quality of the film alone is worth picking it up on Blu-ray, but the special features put the icing on the cake.
The reaction to the Seventh Son trailer was lukewarm at best, but it’s a big fantasy movie we haven’t seen in a while, and I want to remain positive on it. I’m a huge fan of star Jeff Bridges and antagonist Julianne Moore. Still, it’s going to be a tough sell, and everyone’s itching for a big show when you’re the lead-off panel on the biggest day of Hall H. They didn’t have a lot of time in the crowded Warner Bros./Legendary presentation, but the crowd responded well, and they made a case not to simply write this off as another January write-off like this year’s Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.
Hit the jump to for my recap of the panel. Seventh Son opens January 17, 2014.
With director Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel opening June 14th, Warner Bros. has provided us with 47 high-resolution images from the film. While many of these images have been previously released, there are a number of new images and they definitely look awesome. I especially like the one of Christopher Nolan on set with Zack Snyder. If you’re not aware, Nolan produced the film. Hit the jump to check them out.
Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fisburne, Antje Traue, and Russell Crowe.
While we just recently saw a new trailer and a batch of new images from director Zack Snyder’s Superman film Man of Steel, Warner Bros. has now unveiled a large group of high-resolution images. We’ve seen a few of these before in lower-resolution iterations, but we also get new, clear looks at Supes’ parents (both birth and adopted), as well as a great photo of Christopher Meloni’s character.
Hit the jump to take a look at the images. The film also stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fisburne, Antje Traue and Russell Crowe. Man of Steel opens in 3D on June 14th.
Warner Bros. has released the final trailer for Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel. In it, General Zod (Michael Shannon) sets up the film’s central conflict and gives Earth 24 hours before unleashing hell. While previous trailers focused on the coming-of-age tale of a Kryptonian stranded on Earth and the love between a son and his father, this new cut is chock full of dread, evidenced by Superman drowning in a mountain of skulls. When the villains threaten to kill one million humans for every life he saves, you can’t help but feel as if the odds are fully stacked against the world’s most powerful superhero. This is certainly a fresh approach to the iconic hero and I hope that the film lives up to the trailers’ expectations.

A new TV spot has been released a new TV spot for Man of Steel. It has all the pomp and circumstance we’ve come to expect from the film’s marketing campaign, and when it comes to Superman, such presentation is required. It’s Superman, after all. The TV spot also shows off some of the action we previously saw in the excellent trailer, but the real takeaway is Superman screaming. What causes this scream? Does Pa Kent die (I don’t know if Pa Kent dies in the movie, but his death is a touchstone in the character’s biography)? Does Supes step on a kryptonite nail? Is he forced to watch Superman IV: The Quest for Peace?
Hit the jump to check out the TV spot. The film stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fisburne, Antje Traue, and Russell Crowe. Man of Steel opens in 3D on June 14th.
Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for director Zack Snyder‘s Superman film Man of Steel. There’s a lot to pull apart here in this three-minute trailer, starting with the heroic shots of Russell Crowe who appears to have prescience about his son’s abilities once he gets to Earth. Then, we see Clark Kent passing through childhood, adolescence and adulthood, all while the expectations of his fathers are heaped upon his broad shoulders. It’s not all existential as we get the first real hint of action sequences in the film, along with scenes of the menacing Michael Shannon and the tenacious Amy Adams. And that theme? There’s quite a bit going on here so be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Last week, some intriguing new images from Man of Steel made their way online from the latest issue of EW. The magazine quickly asked us to remove the images from our site, but today they’ve been officially released for all to see. We get nice looks at Michael Shannon’s General Zod, Henry Cavill’s Supes, Amy Adams’ Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne’s Perry White, and more, including a new image of Antje Traue as the villainess Faora that wasn’t included in that initial batch.
Hit the jump to take a look at the images, and if you missed General Zod’s warning to Earth (ie. the first viral video for the film), click here. The pic also stars Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, and Diane Lane. Man of Steel opens in 3D on June 14th.
Yesterday, Superman (Henry Cavill) took to the cover of Entertainment Weekly, and now the publication has released seven lo-res images from the superhero’s reboot, Man of Steel. The article contains new plot details, but I’m trying to stay in the dark on this movie. Everything I’ve seen so far has pushed me towards doubt (it just looks too dour for Superman), and I want to give the movie a fair shake, so I’ll let the die-hards check out the story. However, I am willing to look at new images from the movie, and these look alright. Director Zack Snyder has apparently left his more stylized approach behind to make this Superman movie look relatively normal. Of course, we’ll have to see it in motion to really get a sense of what he’s going for.
Hit the jump to check out the images. Hopefully, Warner Bros. will release better-quality versions in the near future. The film also stars Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, and Russell Crowe. Man of Steel opens in 3D on June 14th. [Update: EW has asked us to take the images down. Hopefully Warner Bros. released high-resolution versions soon.]
An American, a Canadian and a German each found work in the movies today. Here’s who was cast in what:
- Denis Leary has been added to the ensemble of football drama Draft Day.
- Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix) has signed up for Pompeii, Paul W.S. Anderson’s latest 3D actioner.
- Antje Traue (Man of Steel) will get her Ancient Greek on as the latest recruit for Brett Ratner’s Hercules: The Thracian Wars.

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill as Superman. Rather than focusing on the action, the trailer tries to sell us on what would happen if Superman really existed on our planet and would people really accept someone with God like powers. Of course towards the end of the trailer, we get a good look at some of the big action set pieces and Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Michael Shannon as the villain Zod. But the fact is, every big budget Hollywood movie has action. Without a strong story and characters you care about, the action means nothing. Thankfully, everything I’ve seen thus far on the Man of Steel tells me Snyder has crafted a great Superman film that will deliver everything the fans want and more. It’s easily one of my most anticipated films of 2013. Hit the jump to watch the new trailer and then be prepared to start counting down the days to June 14.
Man of Steel also stars Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, and Russell Crowe star. Man of Steel opens on June 14, 2013.
Warner Bros. has released two teaser trailers for director Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel and they’re awesome. While both have the same visuals and music, the Yahoo version has Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent) narration and the MSN has Russell Crowe (Jor-El). Unlike most trailers that reveal everything, I love how this is a true teaser and it’s only towards the end that you realize you’re watching a trailer for a Superman movie. Also, the way it uses music and visuals to set the mood is perfect. As I’ve said many times, Man of Steel is easily my most anticipated movie of 2013 and everything I’ve seen and learned tells me it’s going to be something special.
Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, and Crowe. Man of Steel opens on June 14th, 2013. Hit the jump to watch the teaser.
Shannon Woodward has signed on to join Emma Roberts, John Cusack, and Evan Peters in Adult World. The script by Andrew Cochran is pitched as an examination of “the contemporary state of post-graduate life in America.” (Blech.) Roberts plays a recent graduate and aspiring poet who works at the erotic bookstore Adult World. According to Deadline, Woodward will play a “punk/goth anarchist sporting a nose ring and a Ramones shirt” who becomes roomates with Roberts’ character after they bond over their rebellion. Woodward is my favorite thing on Raising Hope, and any girl becomes 10% more fetching in a Ramones shirt. So Adult World just broke even for me after starting off in the hole with that “state of post-graduate life” logline that tastes of copper. Director Scott Coffey (Ellie Parker) is currently shooting the project in upstate New York.

Photos continue to leak out from the set of Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, Man of Steel. The latest photos confirm the groundbreaking and terrifying rumors that began to fly when we saw the first official image of Henry Cavill as Superman. “Surely,” we asked, “they wouldn’t deprive Superman of his external underwear?” But as you can see from these new set photos, deprived him they have. I guess now Superman will be cool. The set photos also show villainess Faora (Antje Traue) rocking a badass cape, more shots of a guy in a mo-cap suit, and in the background there’s a newspaper truck for “The Smallville Sentinel”. Seriously, how much of this freaking movie takes place in Smallville? Smallville was on the air for 23 years. We don’t need to go back.
Hit the jump to check out the set photos. The film also stars Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Julia Ormand, Harry Lennix, Christopher Meloni, and Russell Crowe. Man of Steel opens June 14, 2013.
Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, Man of Steel, may finally be zeroing in on an actress to play the film’s female villain. There’s been some debate over whether or not the role is Ursa (played by Sarah Douglas in Superman and Superman II), the accomplice of General Zod (played in Man of Steel by Michael Shannon) comic book villain Faora (who was the inspiration for Ursa), or an entirely new character. Deadline doesn’t have the answer, but they do say that whoever the female villain is, German actress Antje Traue (Pandorum) is the frontrunner for the part. If she does get the role, she’ll be joining a cast that includes Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, and Kevin Costner.
[Update: Variety reports that Antje has the role and that role is Faora. Variety also speculates that Man of Steel will use "the version of Faora that debuted in Action Comics #779 as a Pokolistanian aide of General Zod. That character was an orphan metahuman with the ability to disrupt molecular bonds, which allowed her to create a mutagenic virus that served as the linchpin of Zod's plan."]
Man of Steel is set to hit theaters December 2012.
