Disney has released the first Avengers: Age of Ultron clip from writer/director Joss Whedon’s highly anticipated Marvel Studios sequel.  The clip debuted earlier tonight during ABC’s new episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., where the first trailer was set to premiere before it leaked last week.  Age of Ultron sees the titular Avengers battling a force of their own invention, as Tony Stark’s new robot Ultron gets a mind of his own and decides that humanity is in need of wiping out.  This clip is essentially what was shown at Comic-Con this summer, and it shows that despite the serious tone of the trailer, there’s still plenty of fun to be had.  In the clip, the Avengers are letting off steam in the form of an Avengers party in Stark’s penthouse, as they each take turns trying to lift Thor’s hammer.  Shenanigans ensue.

Watch the first Avengers: Age of Ultron clip after the jump.  The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, James Spader, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Andy Serkis, and Samuel L. JacksonAvengers: Age of Ultron opens in theaters on May 1, 2015.

superhero-movie-release-dates

There’s no denying that the most popular genre around these days is that of the superhero movie.  Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy proved that comic book adaptations could be just as dramatic and heavy as non-genre films, Marvel Studios jumpstarted a massive interconnected series of superhero movies that were significantly more colorful and humorous, and audiences have been turning out to both kinds of superhero movies in droves.  With every major studio now working to turn its own comic book properties into the next big thing, it’s sometimes tough to keep track of what’s coming out when, who’s in it, and how it fits into the overall picture.  Not to worry, though, because we here at Collider have you covered.

After the jump, you’ll find a comprehensive guide of superhero movie release dates for every major comic book adaptation on the calendar, going all the way up to the year 2020.  Moreover, we’ll be updating this guide regularly with the most current information, so if you’re ever looking for the latest news on a specific film, you can come right back here for a quick overview.

Kevin Feige Says Avengers Roster Will Be Different at the End of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

With so many Marvel heroes in play and contracts in flux, there’s been rumblings of possible alterations to the Avengers lineup and Kevin Feige just confirmed it.  During an on-set interview, Feige came right out and said that the Avengers roster will be different by the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

It’s already been reported that the events of Age of Ultron will have a huge impact on Captain America 3, so it seems likely that this new roster Feige is referring to could be the team Captain America is supposedly taking into his new film.  If that is the case and the lineup rumors are true, that group could consist of Falcon (Anthony Mackie), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and possibly The Vision (Paul Bettany).  Hit the jump for more.

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is in a large room with sky-high ceilings using a two-monitor computer terminal with additional 20-foot tall computers loaded with lights and other components all around it.  While it’s not officially named, the room is an extremely vital component of the World Wide Web with astounding access to information.  Stark has come to the location to investigate why weird things are happening and as he types, studies the monitor and talks to himself, it’s clear he’s starting to get some answers.  A few seconds later, director Joss Whedon calls cut.

Last June, when Avengers: Age of Ultron was filming outside London, I got to visit the set with a few other reporters.  While most of what we saw and learned is still under embargo, Marvel/Disney is letting us post some of our on-set interviews.  During a 20-minute interview, Robert Downey Jr. talked about his reaction after reading the script, where Tony is mentally after the events of Iron Man 3, Tony’s relationship with Ultron, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Scarlet Witch, how Whedon leans on Stark’s credibility to deliver exposition, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to read or listen to what Downey Jr. had to say.

When Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron was filming in London last summer, I got to visit the set along with a few other reporters.   Like most Marvel set visits, they let us talk to the entire cast and watch filming.  While the production was guarded about what they were willing to tell us, we learned a ton of cool secrets behind what’s bound to be one of the biggest films of 2015.  In The Avengers sequel, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) reunite to stop Ultron (James Spader) from carrying out his sinister plan.  “Uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.”  The film also stars  Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-JohnsonPaul BettanyDon Cheadle,Andy Serkis, and Samuel L. Jackson.

While on set, I participated in a group interview with Mark Ruffalo.  He talked about Bruce’s relationship with Tony, fighting the Hulkbuster, The Vision, Bruce’s relationship with Black Widow, what Scarlet Witch brings to the table, whether Hulk has any cool one-liners, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to read or listen to what he had to say.

Now That We’ve Seen the AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Trailer, Who Is This Ultron Fella?

who-is-ultron-avengers-2

How about that Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, eh?  What an entrance!  We’ve come a long road and seen a lot of Marvel films to get to this point, and it seems certainly well earned.  You may be wondering, though, who is this Ultron fella that seems to be creeping out our heroes by shambling into Tony Stark’s pad?  What’s his deal and where does he come from?  In the comics, Ultron is, arguably, the major Avengers villain as he is first and foremost an antagonist to the group itself, rather than say Loki who’s really more of a Thor villain. While the origin of Ultron may be different in the movie, we thought we’d walk you through the birth and “life” of this sinister automaton who has been a thorn in the Avengers side for so long.  Get better acquainted with the comics history of Ultron after the jump.

With Halloween under a week away, today marks my final horror recommendation of the season. Whether it’s been a while since your last viewing or you’ve missed it all together, this is the perfect (and perhaps only) time of year to check out writer/director Tommy Lee Wallace‘s Halloween III: Season of the Witch. Often regarded as the odd duck of the franchise due to its storyline departure and a severe lack of Michael Myers, Season of the Witch relies less on slasher tropes in favor of sci-fi tinged horror. The gist of the plot is that a popular Halloween mask company (Silver Shamrock Novelties) is planning to kill every kid that wears one of their masks on Halloween night. Not a great business plan, but a serviceable witchcraft/sacrifice plan I suppose. The result is a vintage 80′s horror pic complete with solid practical effects, surprisingly violent deaths, killer androids, an old guy who more or less warns you to get out of town before it’s too late, and Tom Atkins‘ stellar mustache. While I’m not sure Season will hold up well under critical review, if you sit back and embrace the silliness of it all I think you’ll have a new Halloween favorite on your hands.

Recommendations aside, this week’s Top 5 highlights the first Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, interviews for and Matt’s review of John Wick, a trailer for Joshua Oppenheimer‘s The Act of Killing follow-up The Look of Silence, interviews for and Matt’s review of Birdman, and Brad Pitt essentially getting eviscerated by Zach Galifianakis on Between Two Ferns. Keep reading for a brief recap and link to each of the above.

More New AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Footage Coming During Next Week’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

A trailer leak isn’t really a good thing, but it seems to have worked out well for Avengers: Age of Ultron and for those eager to see as much footage as possible, too!  Marvel just revealed that within the first 24 hours, that new teaser trailer scored 34.3 million global views, which decimates the previous record of 20 million views set by Iron Man 3.

Because the teaser trailer arrived prior to that planned Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiere, Marvel has decided to offer up even more brand new Age of Ultron material during the October 28th episode.  And the studio isn’t stopping there.  Marvel will air even more exclusive Age of Ultron footage during Marvel 75 Years: From Pulp to Pop! on November 4th as well.  Hit the jump for all the details.   Avengers: Age of Ultron arrives in theaters on May 1, 2015.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Concept Art Reveals James Spader’s Ultimate Form

After the unexpected trailer release this week, we sort of got the idea of what Avengers: Age of Ultron would look like.  But what we didn’t get was a super clear image of Ultron’s final design in the film (most of the footage of him appears to center on his incomplete form).  But now some concept art has hit that rectifies that issue.  In the film, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) reunite to stop Ultron (James Spader) “from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.”

Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-JohnsonPaul BettanyDon CheadleAndy Serkis, and Samuel L. Jackson also star in the sequel directed by Joss Whedon.  Avengers: Age of Ultron opens May 1, 2015.  Check out the concept art after the jump.  I’d consider this a light spoiler

James Spader Says AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON’s Titular Villain Is a “Powerful, Smart Child” and “Batshit Crazy”

Yesterday, fans finally got a look at Avengers: Age of Ultron (click here for screengrabs from the trailer), which was dominated by James Spader voicing the eponymous, evil robot.  The highly-anticipated sequel looks much darker than the first, and obviously a large part of that comes from an intimidating villain.  If audiences are going to buy Ultron as a true threat—and, let’s face it, someone as charismatic as Loki—then it’s going to come from Spader.

Thankfully, the actor has a strong understanding of how he sees the character, and how he’ll bring the Avengers’ foe to life.  Hit the jump for what Spader had to say.  The film also stars Robert Downey Jr.Chris EvansChris HemsworthMark RuffaloScarlett JohanssonJeremy RennerElizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, and Aaron Taylor-JohnsonAvengers: Age of Ultron opens May 1, 2015.

First AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Trailer Teases Dark Tone, Catastrophic Destruction

by     Posted 10 days ago

Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer

The first Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer for writer/director Joss Whedon’s highly anticipated superhero follow-up has leaked online under a week before its official release.  The sequel finds Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) teaming up once again to battle the devious robot known as Ultron (James Spader).  This is very close to the footage that was shown at Comic-Con, save for a different final shot and an extended clip that was shown of the so-called “Avengers Party.”  What’s clear from this trailer is that the tone is darker, the stakes are higher, and the threat is seemingly more nefarious.

Watch the trailer after the jump.  Avengers: Age of Ultron also stars Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-JohnsonPaul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Andy Serkis, and Samuel L. Jackson and opens in theaters May 1, 2015.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Trailer Images Offer First Look at Ultron and the Hulkbuster Armor

Marvel is taking an odd yet not entirely surprising approach to unveiling the first Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer by debuting it on ABC next week during the new episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (synergy!).  It’s an understandable effort to boost the ratings of the low-rated series, and I’m sure the trailer will be online shortly afterwards.  But if you can’t wait until next week to see the first footage from director Joss Whedon’s sequel, newly unveiled images from the trailer offer a sneak peek at what we can expect—including the first Ultron image that unveils the villainous robot as played by James Spader, and Tony Stark’s Hulkbuster armor.

Hit the jump to take a look at the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer images.  For a recap of the extended footage we saw at Comic-Con, click here.  The full trailer debuts on Tuesday, October 28th at 8pm ET/PT during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC.  Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in theaters on May 1, 2015.
