top-10-posters-2013-slice

We report on a lot of posters and trailers.  These little bits of advertising are crucial in steering fan anticipation for blockbusters or bringing attention to smaller movies.  Posters and trailers serve a purpose, and they’re not easy to make.  Dozens of posters and trailers are created for movies, and studios carefully select the ones they feel will work the best and have the broadest appeal.  Sadly, when it comes to posters, many of the designs are generic.  The recent trends are “Back to the Audience”, “Gigantic Tagline”, and “Sparks and Debris”.  I’ve chosen ten posters from 2013 that took a chance, broke the mold, and came away with something eye-catching and original.

Hit the jump for my top 10 posters of 2013, and come back tomorrow for the top 10 trailers of 2013.

Every year, there are plenty of great films, but some fall through the cracks and others are overshadowed.   While we’ll have our Top 10 of the year lists near the end of 2013, we wanted to share with you some movies that may have slipped past your attention.  There are films like these on our Top 10 lists as well, but we didn’t want to be redundant, and we wanted to bring attention to more films.  These movies either had too limited of a release or they were dismissed because they looked bad or the premise was deemed too cheesy.  Whatever the reason, they have the potential to be a cult classic in the making or at least a movie you’ll probably be sharing with your friends.

Hit the jump for Matt, Dave, Adam, and Brendan’s choices for great movies you may have missed this year.

Surprisingly, Bad Milo, which is a movie about an ass demon, also has a lot of heart.  As the pressures of Duncan’s (Ken Marino) life start mounting, his stress triggers an insufferable gastrointestinal reaction that results in a pint-sized demon living in his intestine, that forces its way out and slaughters the people who have angered him.  Trying to keep its insatiable appetite at bay, Duncan attempts to befriend it, naming it Milo.

At the film’s press day, actor Ken Marino spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about how he came to be a part of this project, his first reaction to the script, what he thought when he saw what Milo would look like, what it was like to work with the puppet, and working with such a great cast.  He also talked about revisiting his character Vinnie Van Lowe for the Veronica Mars movie, working on the new season of Eastbound & Down, and the type of projects he currently has in development.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

In the short film It’s Not You, It’s Me, a young woman’s (Gillian Jacobs) relationship takes a dark turn when every sound her boyfriend (Fran Kranz) makes starts to annoy her.  And then, things start to get really messy.  Directed by Matt Spicer, you can view the film through JASH, a comedy collective on YouTube that gives comedians and artists a platform to create and control their own digital content, at www.youtube.com/buh.

During this recent exclusive interview with Collider, actress Gillian Jacobs talked about how this project came about for her, being a big fan of Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, how much fun she had working with Fran Kranz and Rob Huebel, how crazy it was to shoot so much content in only three days, and how the idea of JASH has inspired her to think about creating her own original content.  She also talked about why the crazy concept of Bad Milo (a horror comedy about a guy who learns that his unusual stomach problems are being caused by a demon living in his intestines) appealed to her, what it’s meant to her to be a part of a series like Community, that the fans are so dedicated and devoted to, and how she ultimately wants to find a balance between comedy and drama work.  Check out what she had to say after the jump.

Magnet has released the red-band trailer for director Jacob Vaughan’s horror comedy Bad Milo.  The film stars Ken Marino as a man whose severe gastric problems are the result of an anal demon brought on by stress at work and at home.  We previously saw a green-band debut trailer for the film, but this new one doesn’t hold back on the blood, gore, and graphic colonoscopy footage; if you’ve been holding your breath for a movie about an evil butt demon, then this film is right up your alley.  Bad Milo looks batshit crazy in a very good way, and Matt caught the film at SXSW and called it “juvenile and totally hilarious.”  Read his full review here.

Trailer and Poster for BAD MILO Starring Ken Marino, Gillian Jacobs, and an Anal Demon

Magnet has released the trailer and poster for Jacob Vaughan’s comedy Bad Milo.  The film stars Ken Marino as a man whose severe gastric problems are the result of an anal demon brought on by stress at work and at home.  I saw the film at SXSW back when it was just called “Milo” (the “bad” seems unnecessary unless there’s some confusion regarding good anal demons), and thought it was juvenile and totally hilarious.  The poster is well done, and while the trailer is a bit flat, I highly encourage you to get together a group of friends on a weekday night, have some drinks, and laugh your ass off at watching a gremlin-like creature come out of a guy’s butt.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster.  The film also stars Gillian Jacobs, Peter Stormare, Stephen Root, and Patrick WarburtonBad Milo will be released on VOD on August 29th and in theaters on October 4th.
