Disney has released a slew of new images from director Gore Verbinski’s new film The Lone Ranger. The story focuses on John Reid (Armie Hammer) surviving an attack, being saved by Native American warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp), and the two teaming up to fight injustice. As a big fan of Verbinski’s work on the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films, I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s put together for Lone Ranger. These new images tease the film’s large cast of characters as well as the principal partnership between the titular Ranger and Tonto, and it should be fun to see how the duo’s relationship develops over the course of the film.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The film also stars Tom Wilkinson, Ruth Wilson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, and Helena Bonham Carter. The Lone Ranger opens July 3rd.

With a little over a month away until the release of Gore Verbinski‘s The Lone Ranger, Disney has a released a new trailer. The story focuses on John Reid (Armie Hammer) surviving an attack, being saved by Native American warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp), and the two teaming up to fight injustice. The new trailer speeds through the premise to get to the set pieces, and while I want to be excited for this movie, I just keep seeing Wild Wild West. There’s hardly any of the humor that made Verbinski’s Pirates of the Caribbean movies so enjoyable, or the strangeness that brought Rango to life. Then again, if Disney wants to leave the best stuff out of the trailer, that’s fine by me. I’d like to be surprised.

Disney has released a new trailer for director Gore Verbinski‘s upcoming film The Lone Ranger. This lengthy theatrical trailer begins by focusing on the origin of Armie Hammer‘s titular ranger and how his partnership with Johnny Depp‘s Tonto was forged, and from there we get quite a few looks at the many characters and set pieces that make up the action/adventure pic. There are more than a few similarities to be found between this and Verbinski’s Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, as this trailer showcases a massive scale, a kooky Depp performance, plenty of dirty, nefarious characters, and a possible supernatural element. The visuals here look gorgeous, and while I’m not sold on Depp’s performance or even necessarily the story, I’m still eager to see what Verbinski has cooked up on a very big screen when this thing hits theaters.
Hit the jump to watch the new trailer. The film also stars Tom Wilkinson, Ruth Wilson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, and Helena Bonham Carter. The Lone Ranger opens on July 3rd.

A third new trailer for Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger, starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, is now online. The international trailer comes with Japanese narration, but the action transcends any language barriers. Focusing on stunt sequences, explosive pyrotechnics and even some hidden-weapon gadgetry from star Helena Bonham Carter, the new trailer is short on dialogue, but certainly delivers on the excitement.
Also starring Tom Wilkinson, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, William Fichtner and Ruth Wilson, The Lone Ranger rides into stateside theaters July 3rd. Hit the jump to watch the new trailer.

I’m opening myself up to complete public failure here, but in the spirit of Oscar weekend I thought it might be fun to share with peers and readers alike my picks for tomorrow’s 85th Academy Awards. Worst case scenario, I figure, is that my picks are so woefully off base that I’m quickly offered a well-compensated position within the Republican Party as a polling analyst. High hopes, I know, but ultimately it’s all in the name of fun. Here’s to hoping you the reader will enjoy comparing your predictions against my own and sleeping better at night as a result of your superior Oscar guessing power.
My half-witted Oscar picks aside, this week’s edition features category previews plus Adam and Matt’s own predictions, Snitch interviews with Dwayne Johnson and more, a character guide to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, a roundup of recent Star Wars: Episode VII talk, and Sony’s PlayStation 4 announcement. Something that resembles a brief recap and link to each is starved for your attention after the jump.

Opening this weekend is Ric Roman Waugh’s new thriller Snitch, based on the true story of a man (played by Dwayne Johnson) whose son is wrongly accused of dealing drugs and is facing decades behind bars under the mandatory minimum sentencing laws. Johnson strikes a deal—he will help lead to an arrest if his son can go free. He soon finds himself caught up in a massive undercover mission helmed by agent Barry Pepper that could lead to the arrest of a Mexican Cartel drug lord—but at a potentially deadly cost. The film also stars Jon Bernthal, Benjamin Bratt, Rafi Gavron, and Michael K. Williams.
At the New York press day for the film, I was able to speak to Barry Pepper about his involvement in the film. He talked about preparing for the role, then filled me in about his upcoming role in The Lone Ranger and working with Johnny Depp. He also told me about an upcoming project focusing on the Civil War era, and his surprising alter ego as a blacksmith.

At first blush, writer/director Ric Roman Waugh’s action drama Snitch looks to be much heavier on the action part of that descriptor. If you go into the theater having glimpsed at the movie’s trailer, poster and clips, or if you just know that it stars Dwayne Johnson (Faster), you might be expecting just another fun but shallow B movie. Hopefully you’d be pleasantly surprised, like I was, to find a much more complex plot that raises the stakes for each of its fully-realized characters in a way that tests the viewer’s limits of believability without crashing through them, all while delivering on the promised action sequences. Hit the jump for my review of Snitch.

With director Ric Roman Waugh’s (Felon) Snitch opening February 22, we’ve been provided with five clips. The film stars Dwayne Johnson as a father whose son is wrongly accused of a crime and sentenced to 10 years in jail. In order to clear the boy’s name, he must go undercover and risk his own life. Snitch also stars Susan Sarandon, Michael Kenneth Williams, Jon Bernthal, Benjamin Bratt and Barry Pepper. Hit the jump to check out the clips and look for our exclusive video interviews with the cast soon.

Dwayne Johnson is one of a handful of action stars who are trying to re-energize the genre and it looks as if his new film Snitch could be a much-needed shot in the arm. From director Ric Roman Waugh (Felon), Johnson stars as a father who volunteers to go undercover for the DEA in order to clear his son’s name and get him out of a ten-year prison sentence. This cut is much tighter than the first trailer and delivers the plot conceit quickly before getting to the bread-and-butter action scenes. Also starring Susan Sarandon, Michael Kenneth Williams, Jon Bernthal, Benjamin Bratt and Barry Pepper, Snitch opens February 22nd. Hit the jump to watch the new trailer.

A new trailer for director Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Rangerhas been released. This new trailer finally takes a little bit of focus off of Johnny Depp‘s Tonto and places it on the eponymous character (Armie Hammer). We learn a little bit of the hero’s back story, and that Silver is a very odd horse. I’m not sure if I’ll ever get used to Tonto’s fractured dialogue or Bojan Bazelli‘s washed-out cinematography, but Verbinski’s earned my trust, so I’ll keep hoping that this movie delivers.

Judging by the trailer for Snitch, mandatory minimums are a great law-enforcement strategy as long as you force Dwayne Johnson to be an untrained undercover informant. Johnson plays a father who, in order to keep his son from going to jail, is forced to work with the feds to take down a drug kingpin (Benjamin Bratt). Snitch could end up being a bunch of goofy, B-movie fun especially with a strong supporting cast that includes Michael Kenneth Williams, Barry Pepper, Harold Perrineau, and Susan Sarandon. Or, it could be Faster. I’m hoping it’s the former.

The first trailer for director Gore Verbinski’s (the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy) The Lone Ranger has been released. Though the film features what are likely a couple of showy performances from Johnny Depp (Tonto) and The Social Network‘s Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger himself), this trailer is mostly about trains. Matt made a similar comment regarding the footage shown at Comic-Con, so it’s safe to assume that the mode of transportation plays a large role in the film. Verbinski appears to have put together one hell of a pretty-lookin’ movie, but we don’t see or hear enough of Depp’s Tonto to judge whether he’s veered too far over the top or hit that Jack Sparrow sweet spot. I’m encouraged by Verbinski’s talent and the impressive line of actors in the ensemble (including trailer-narrator Tom Wilkinson as the villain), so hopefully we’re in for a big, fun Western adventure.

If you’ve spent the better part of your work week in search of grainy topless photos, search no further because you’ve come to the right place! We’ve got twenty images of Johnny Depp from the set of The Lone Ranger. The Gore Verbinski film adapts the iconic radio personalities of John Reid, aka The Lone Ranger (as played by Armie Hammer) and his Native American compatriot, Tonto (Depp). After the production looked to be in dire straits earlier this year with a rapidly-swelling budget, but a Comic-Con trailer and recently posted set photos have shown that The Lone Ranger is back on track. If you’ve got a recognizable name like the folks pictured above, you’d think that once you sign onto a project, you can expect to see your face on the big screen. That’s not the case when Terrence Malick is the director. Although Rachel Weisz, Barry Pepper, Amanda Peet and Michael Sheen all filmed scenes for the Badlands director’s film, To the Wonder, all of them were left on the cutting room floor. The film screens this coming Sunday at the Venice Film Festival before moving on to TIFF next week. Hit the jump for why the actors’ scenes were cut and who is left in the finished film.

Before the lineup for this year’s Cannes Film Festival was announced, many were hoping that Terrence Malick’s romantic drama starring Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams (previously referred to as The Burial) would be among the films set to premiere. Given that he just released The Tree of Life last year, it would have been an unprecedented move; the average time between the release of Malick films is 7.6 years (yes, I did the math). However, the director has become surprisingly prolific as of late, lining up two new films to shoot this year. He filmed the romantic drama in 2010, but he famously spends years shaping his films in the editing room.
The Cannes lineup announcement came and went with no mention of Malick, but today we’ve got some news that provides hope for those wishing to see the film sometime this year. Not only does the film now have a set title of To the Wonder, it has an official rating of R. Hit the jump for more, including story details.
