Snow White and the Huntsman is part – and in some ways a culmination – of the worst instincts of big budgets Hollywood fantasies. It tries to combine the appeal of the Lord of the Rings films with a known property, Campbellian archetypes and a more dark and serious take on fantasy material. It’s garbage, easily one of the worst films of 2012. Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron lead the cast in this botched adaptation of the children’s classic. Our review of the film on Blu-ray follows after the jump.

Universal has released an excellent interactive trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman. Rather than the awful trailer-for-trailer trend, I wish more studios would take the interactive approach where the trailer can lead to behind-the-scenes featurettes, concept art, and other fun stuff. The trailer-for-trailer thing only makes me feel annoyed towards an upcoming film, but this interactive trailer makes me want to see SWATH even more.
Hit the jump to check out the interactive trailer. The film also stars Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Nick Frost, Bob Hoskins, Ray Winstone, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, and Ian McShane. Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1st.

Director Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman opens in a little more than a month and Universal wants to make sure you know all the key players, so they’ve rattled off this roll call TV spot. Most of the marketing so far has been geared toward the power struggle between Snow White (Kristen Stewart) and Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) with little attention paid to the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) and even less to Prince William (Sam Claflin) and the Dwarves (Toby Jones, Ian McShane, Ray Winstone, Nick Frost, Bob Hoskins, Eddie Marsan). Personally, I feel like the marketing machine has been humming along nicely up until this point; this 30-second teaser spot does little else but splash images of the actors across the screen along with their character names. The new international trailer, however, is a nicely edited piece that reminds me why Snow White and the Huntsman, which opens June 1st, was one of our Most Anticipated movies of this quarter. Universal has released a new trailer and five-minute preview for Snow White and the Huntsman. I can’t believe I’m excited for either of the two Snow White movies opening this year, but here we are. I’m digging what director Rupert Sanders has done with the visuals and the world he’s trying to create. Also, ten points for the Shatterbeast at the end of the trailer (not the official name, but it should be). The trailer gets the job done. As for the extended preview, it contain the first real look at the dwarves in action, so it’s worth your time. I like everything I’m seeing, and when Dave caught the film’s presentation at WonderCon this weekend, he said the movie looks liked an “action-packed, visual marvel that is positively brimming with emotion.” As someone who enjoys action-packed visual marvels that are positively brimming with emotion, this Snow White sounds like the one for me (Tarsem Singh‘s Mirror Mirror, by comparison, sounds like the movie for no one).
Hit the jump to check out the trailer and preview, and click here for Christina’s interview with Sanders. The film stars Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Nick Frost, Bob Hoskins, Ray Winstone, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Ian McShane, and Charlize Theron. Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1st.

As part of Universal’s promotion at this year’s WonderCon, they showed off some new footage of their upcoming spin on an old fairy tale, Snow White and the Huntsman. Some of it you can see in a series of featurettes we’ve posted here and here. Some of it will undoubtedly only be shown when the movie hits theaters early this summer. The picture may sound like a simple fairy tale, but after seeing this new footage there is no question in my mind that Snow White and the Huntsman is an action-packed, visual marvel that is positively brimming with emotion. While Chris Hemsworth’s Huntsman and Sam Claflin’s Prince William may be the requisite brawn of the movie, Snow White and the Huntsman is all about the showdown between Charlize Theron’s frigid Queen Ravenna and Kristen Stewart’s defiant Snow White. Forget Return of the King, this is “Return of the Queen.”
Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Nick Frost, Bob Hoskins, Ray Winstone, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Ian McShane, and Charlize Theron opens June 1st. Hit the jump for more.

As their respective release dates loom closer, the battle between the two Snow White films is heating up. A new international trailer for Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror was recently released, and today Universal has released two new images from Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman. One of them gives us a peek at a burly Chris Hemsworth flanked by the eight dwarves. Yes, in Snow White and the Huntsman there are eight dwarves (something to do with a rights issue), but they look like a pretty formidable band of warriors here. Sanders assembled a pretty damn impressive roster of actors to play the dwarves, including Nick Frost, Bob Hoskins, Ray Winstone, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, and Ian McShane.
Hit the jump to check out the images, which also include a new look at Charlize Theron as the evil Queen. I continue to be impressed by what I see from Huntsman, and I’m sincerely hoping that the full film delivers a grand, epic adventure. Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1st.

Universal has released the first trailer for Rupert Sanders‘ Snow White and the Huntsman. Kristen Stewart plays Snow White in the fairy tale adaptation, where she trains in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) to fight the evil queen (Charlize Theron). I’m with this trailer until it Theron says…”Mirror, mirror on the wall…,” and then I started to roll my eyes. But I’m trying to give it a chance because I like the visual style and I want to resist the urge to dismiss it just because it has “Snow White” in the title. Of course, both Snow White and the Huntsman and Tarsem Singh’s Mirror, Mirror have to contend with trying to take on a new version of Snow White when for the past seventy-five years we’ve really only known the one with the singing dwarves. But at least with Sanders’ Snow White, it looks like there’s an intriguing and exciting vision behind this new take. Your move, Singh.

Last night, we reported that Ian McShane had been cast as the leader of the dwarfs in Universal’s Snow White project, Snow White and the Huntsman. Tonight, it looks as if the actor is getting some company as Heat Vision reports that Eddie Izzard (Valkyrie), Bob Hoskins (Who Framed Roger Rabbit?), and Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger) are in final negotiations to join McShane’s gang of dwarfs. Per the report, Izzard will play the burliest dwarf Tiberius, Hoskins will a blind dwarf named Constantine, and Jones will make a turn as the timid dwarf Claudius. The trio will join a cast that already includes Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, and Kristen Stewart.
In addition to Izzard, Hoskins, and Jones, the report also mentions that Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) and Steven Graham are currently in talks to play warriors in the pic. Directed by Rupert Sanders, Snow White and the Huntsman features princess Snow White (Stewart) attempting to escape the grasp of her evil stepmother (Theron) with the help of a huntsman (Hemsworth) who trains her to survive. Evan Spiliotopoulos is currently touching up a script by Evan Daugherty. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on June 1st, 2012.

Though we’ve seen several iterations of the Peter Pan tale from Disney’s animated adventure to the Steven Spielberg’s sequel story Hook, audiences never seem to tire of the boy who doesn’t want to grow up. Well Sky Movies over in the United Kingdom is delivering Neverland, yet another take on the story, but this version follows the never-before-told story of how Peter Pan became the Boy Who Never Grew Up. The cast includes Rhys Ifans (who’s playing the villain in The Amazing Spider-Man) Anna Friel from Pushing Daisies, Charlie Rowe as Peter, Keira Knightley as the voice of Tinkerbell and Bob Hoskins playing Smee (just like he did in Hook). Unless you’re in the UK with a subscription to Sky Movies this July, you might be waiting a while to check this one out, but you can see the cool trailer after the jump along with some new images from the film.

Keira Knightley will provide the voice of Tinker Bell in Sky Movies HD and Syfy’s Live-Action Peter Pan prequel, Neverland. Knightley joins Rhys Ifans, Anna Friel, Bob Hoskins, Charles Dance, and Charlie Rowe in the two-part movie, which is scheduled to air this summer. The prequel re-imagines Peter Pan and his Lost Boys as a group of pickpockets who are transported to Neverland by a magical orb. It’s the second Peter Pan prequel we’ve heard of in recent weeks, joining Pan, which will star Channing Tatum and was picked up by Sony Pictures.
Hit the jump for the full press release. Knightley will be seen later this year in the dramas Last Night and A Dangerous Method. She’s also circling roles in David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis and Joe Wright’s adaptation of Anna Karenina.

Bob Hoskins (A Christmas Carol), Jason Flemying (Kick-Ass), and Talulah Riley (Inception) have signed on to star in the extraterrestrial sci-fi film Transmission, described as “Pitch Black meets 28 Days Later.” Willem Dafoe is likewise in talks for a role, with Roger Christian negotiating a deal to direct. Christian notably served as set decorator on Star Wars and art director on Alien, classics of the genre. As a director, he gave us Battlefield Earth, recent winner of “Worst Movie of the Decade” at the Razzies.
According to Moviehole, the British film centers on an alien invasion during a solar eclipse. Giles Alderson and Martin Owen, the men behind Gold Films, intend to shoot Transmission in 3D. This one has potential, I suppose, even if it feels like a lot of pieces still need to fall into place. But hey, if Oscar nominees Bob Hoskins and Willem Dafoe like the script…

With director Robert Zemeckis’ (“Beowulf”, “The Polar Express”) animated version of “A Christmas Carol” opening on November 6th, Walt Disney has provided us with six clips from the film. While I normally love to check out the clips that we’re provided, the movie is being released in “Disney 3D” and that’s the way I want to see the footage for the first time. However, since I know a lot of you want to check out the footage right now, the clips are after the jump. Again, if you’re planning on seeing “A Christmas Carol” in a theater, make sure you see it in 3D!

The first trailer for Robert Zemeckis’s “A Christmas Carol” has leaked its way onto YouTube and until Disney pulls it, you can watch the trailer after the jump. The only thing to know before watching is, the trailer is in Italian and it was recorded with a video camera inside a movie theater. So…it’s not really the best way to watch the footage for the first time. Saying that, you can still get a good look at what Zemeckis is going for and if you enjoyed “Beowulf” and “The Polar Express”, it looks like he’s doing more of the same. I’d imagine with this trailer leaking, we’ll get the official one any day now. Until then, take a look after the jump:
