Set in present-day downtown New York City, the indie drama Generation Um follows John (Keanu Reeves), the quiet and withdrawn driver for an escort service that includes Violet (Bojana Novakovic) and Mia (Adelaide Clemens), two women who are as manipulative as they are beautiful. When John impulsively steals a camcorder, he decides to use it to explore their deepest secrets, pushing their friendship to the limit.
At the film’s press day, actress Bojana Novakovic and writer/director Mark L. Mann spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about how the film came about, what the casting process was like, shaping the character dynamics during rehearsals, working with Keanu Reeves, being as open and free as possible during shooting, and the extra footage they have for the DVD release. Check out what they had to say after the jump.

The first trailer for writer/director Mark Mann’s Generation Um… is now available. The film, starring Keanu Reeves (The Matrix), Adelaide Clemens (Silent Hill: Revelation) and Bojana Novakovic (Devil), centers on three adults in New York City across one day. I’m not 100% clear on what the film is really supposed to be about from the synopsis besides partying and a generation bent on ignoring disillusionment; unfortunately the trailer doesn’t do much to clear up the synopsis. Also starring Daniel Sunjata (The Dark Knight Rises), Generation Um… will be arriving on VOD in the US on April 26th and hits limited theaters this summer on May 3rd. Hit the jump to watch the trailer.

Poor M. Night Shyamalan. After the one-two-three punch that was The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs, the young auteur, once branded the “next Spielberg” by Time Magazine, has endured a painfully long streak of bad-to-terrible films – namely The Village, Lady in the Water, The Happening and The Last Airbender. With the release of Devil he now must face a hard truth – that his best film in years is the one he did not write or direct.
Those duties belong to John Erick Dowdle, the imaginative brain behind 2008’s contrived, but freakishly thrilling Quarantine. Dowdle swoops in and, with the help of screenwriter Brian Nelson – who penned the delicious vampire fest 30 Days of Night and the equally tasty Hard Candy – molds Shyamalan’s basic premise into a 75-minute thriller that never lets up. The swift running time ensures a slick experience – like an extended Twilight Zone episode, Devil cuts through the BS and arrives at its purpose directly. You don’t have time to laugh at the proceedings – you’re too busy racing the film to its dramatic conclusion.

Opening this Friday is Universal’s supernatural thriller Devil. Produced by M. Night Shyamalan, the film stars Chris Messina, Geoffrey Arend, Logan Marshall-Green, Bojana Novakovic, Jenny O’Hara, Bokeem Woodbine, and Jacob Vargas.
As most of you know, the film is about a group of people trapped in an elevator and it turns out one of them is the devil. While I’d love for Devil to be a reason to love Shyamalan again…I’m not giving this film any of my money until at least a few people have told me it’s worth seeing.
But since I know some of you are curious about Devil, Universal has provided us with five clips and you can watch them after the jump. I’m definitely curious if this film is going to open…

Keanu Reeves has signed on to star alongside Bojana Novakovic (Edge of Darkness) and Adelaide Clemens (Mad Max: Fury Road) in Mark L. Mann’s indie-drama Generation Um… Per Variety, “Pic follows a day in the life of Reeves’ character and his two cohorts as they live life on the fringe, immersed in sex, drugs and indecision. As they navigate their daily routine of bars and crowds, they embark on a path of self-discovery.” I don’t feel like there’s any need for me to make the world’s easiest joke by saying that Keanu Reeves, a man who is regularly portrayed as dim-witted (even though nothing in his public life suggests he’s an idiot), is starring in a movie called “Generation Um…”
Reeves will next be seen in the drama Henry’s Crime, which is playing at this year’s Toronto Film Festival. He’s also attached to Gabrielle Muccino’s sci-fi drama Passengers. Generation Um… begins shooting today in New York.

About a month ago we posted the first trailer, poster and images from Universal’s supernatural thriller Devil. The film is about a few people trapped in an elevator (with one of them being the Devil) and it stars Chris Messina, Geoffrey Arend, Logan Marshall-Green, Bojana Novakovic, Jenny O’Hara, Bokeem Woodbine, Jacob Vargas and it’s from a story by M. Night Shyamalan. Of course when Universal decided to make Devil, Shyamalan’s name carried more weight. But after The Last Airbender and Lady in the Water, I think Shyamalan’s name on a project is more of a liability than an asset.
But even though his last few films have been disappointments, I dug the trailer for Devil and think the film has a cool concept that if done right, might be pretty cool. Also, Shyamalan only produced the film, as it was directed by John Erick Dowdle. That means it might be good. Anyway, we’ve been given a ton of new images, so hit the jump to check them out. Devil gets released September 17, 2010.

The first trailer, poster and images from Universal’s supernatural thriller Devil have been released. The film stars Chris Messina, Geoffrey Arend, Logan Marshall-Green, Bojana Novakovic, Jenny O’Hara, Bokeem Woodbine, and Jacob Vargas and it’s from a story by M. Night Shyamalan. Of course when Universal decided to make the project, Shyamalan’s name meant more than it does now (The Last Airbender).
Saying that, the trailer for Devil makes it seem like a pretty cool thriller about a group of people trapped in an elevator with the Devil. But I’m not going to be fooled again by anything with M. Night’s name attached to it. From now on, I’m of the opinion everything he does is crap until he makes a good movie. If this works, I’ll take him off my shit list. But if it’s bad….

Opening tomorrow is director Martin Campbell’s (Casino Royale) Edge of Darkness. A GK Films Production based on the BAFTA Award-winning BBC miniseries of the same name (which Campbell directed), Edge of Darkness is about a homicide detective whose daughter is gunned down on his front steps. When he starts to look into what really happened, he uncovers not only her secret life, but a corporate cover-up and government collusion that attracts an agent tasked with cleaning up the evidence. The film stars Mel Gibson, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Bojana Novakovic and Shawn Roberts and it’s been written by William Monahan (The Departed) and Andrew Bovell (Lantana), based on the original television series written by Troy Kennedy Martin.
To help promote the film, I got to do an exclusive interview with director Martin Campbell. We talked about why he wanted to revisit the material, working with Mel Gibson, filming in Boston (and why he didn’t have any Dunkin Donuts in the movie), deleted scenes, and, of course, we talked about his next film, Green Lantern. Hit the jump to read what he had to say:

To help promote the film, I recently participated in a press conference with Gibson, Winstone, Director Martin Campbell and Producer Graham King. If you’re a Mel Gibson fan, you’ll really like this interview as almost all the questions were directed at him. Gibson talks about everything from making the movie to whether or not he’ll be in Mad Max 4 and his Viking movie. Hit the jump to read the transcript.

Director Martin Campbell’s (“Casino Royale”) “Edge of Darkness” has finally got a trailer and if you’re a fan of Mel Gibson kicking ass, I’m pretty sure you’re going to like this movie. The other reason this film should be on your radar is William Monahan (“The Departed”) wrote the screenplay and the film takes place in Boston. The last time Monahan wrote a Boston based movie, I think we can all agree it turned out well.
The premise of “Edge of Darkness” is Mel Gibson plays a detective and after the sudden death of his activist daughter, he tries to find out why she was killed. He uncovers more than he bargained for. The film also stars Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Bojana Novakovic, and Shawn Roberts. Watch the trailer after the jump. Be warned: Mel is trying to pull off a Boston accent. I think it works.
