New Clip from SKYFALL Focuses on Ben Whishaw’s Q

by     Posted 2 years, 58 days ago

Yet another clip from director Sam Mendes’ James Bond film Skyfall has been released, and this time the focus is on the Daniel Crag-era’s new Q.  Ben Whishaw steps into the gadgets expert role previously played by Peter Burton, Desmond Llewelyn, and John Cleese, bringing a wholly fresh take on the staple character.  It’s been a decade since we’ve seen Q portrayed onscreen (2002’s Die Another Day), and I’m eager to see whether he fits into the larger plot of Skyfall or if he’ll be resigned to a couple of self-contained scenes.

Sam Mendes Says THE DARK KNIGHT Directly Influenced SKYFALL

by     Posted 2 years, 62 days ago

Everything we’ve seen thus far from director Sam Mendes’ James Bond film Skyfall has been incredibly promising, and just recently the first reviews hit and they were wildly positive.  As such, Skyfall looks poised to be a very, very big entry in the long-running Bond franchise, with a great deal of credit due to Mendes.  A number of the film’s first reviews noted the similarities between the sensibility of Skyfall’s and that of The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan.  As it turns out, that wasn’t exactly by accident.  During a recent interview, Mendes talked about how much Christopher Nolan’s films—specifically The Dark Knight—influenced his approach to Skyfall.

New Videoblog for SKYFALL Focuses on Bond Girls Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe

by     Posted 2 years, 90 days ago

A new videoblog for Skyfall has landed online, and this time the Bond girls are the focus.  Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe play two very different female characters in director Sam Mendes’ entry in the franchise, but both actresses are aware of how the female role in the Bond films has changed over the years.  Harris notes that it’s “not enough just to look pretty anymore,” and her field agent can more than hold her own.  Marlohe, on the other hand, describes her character as a femme fatale with a great deal of complexity.  It’s been nice to see the series evolve from its chauvinistic roots, and I’m eager to see what Harris and Marlohe bring to the table.

Hit the jump to watch the videoblog.  The film also stars Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Ben Whishaw, Javier Bardem, and Ralph FiennesSkyfall opens on November 9th.

New Olympics TV Spot for SKYFALL

by     Posted 2 years, 144 days ago

If you watched the damn impressive (and long) opening ceremonies for the Olympics last night, you caught director Danny Boyle’s amusing James Bond short film featuring Daniel Craig and the Queen herself.  In addition to the royally-enhanced bit, a brand new TV spot for the new James Bond film, Skyfall, aired during commercial breaks, and that spot is now online for your viewing pleasure.  Instead of jamming as many explosions into 30 seconds as possible, this spot plays like a great mood piece, giving audiences a tiny taste of what director Sam Mendes has cooked up for his entry in the long-running franchise.  We also get an incredibly brief first look at Javier Bardem as the villain and a really great tag that showcases a humorous Bond stunt.

I continue to be impressed by what we’ve seen from Skyfall thus far, and I’m incredibly excited to see how it all comes together.  Hit the jump to take a look at the TV spot.  The film also stars Ralph Fiennes, Bérénice Marlohe, Judi Dench, and Naomie HarrisSkyfall opens on November 9th.

Three New Images from SKYFALL Featuring Daniel Craig and Ola Rapace

by     Posted 2 years, 154 days ago

The summer movie season is beginning to wind down, but that doesn’t mean we’ll be lacking for explosions and gunplay come this fall.  Director Sam Mendes will put his stamp on the James Bond series with Skyfall, and fresh off our first look at Ben Whishaw as Q last week, three more new images have landed online.  Daniel Craig is seen doing his Bond thing as he cooly rides a motorbike and effortlessly reloads his gun, but we also get a brief image of Ola Rapace riding a motorbike of his own.  Details on the film have been scarce, but during Steve’s set visit interview Rapace revealed that he’s the person Bond is after at the beginning of the movie.

Hit the jump to check out the images, and if you missed Steve’s set visit coverage check out his video blog recap and interviews with Mendes, Craig and producer Barbra Broccoli, Berenice Marlohe, and Naomie HarrisSkyfall opens on November 9th.

First Image of Ben Whishaw as Q in SKYFALL

by     Posted 2 years, 160 days ago

Director Sam Mendes will make his mark on the Bond franchise later this year with the 23rd film in the series, Skyfall, and we now have our first look at the new Q of the Daniel Craig era.  Ben Whishaw (I’m Not There) takes on the role of 007’s gadget expert in Mendes’ pic, and this image proves that the character does indeed look super smart.  Unless I’m forgetting someone, we’ve yet to see a reinvention of a classic Bond character in the Craig films besides Bond himself, so it’ll be interesting to see how Whishaw’s Q fits into the universe.  The character was memorably played by Desmond Llewelyn from 1963-1999, then John Cleese took over during the Pierce Brosnan era from 1999-2002.

Hit the jump to take a look at the image.  The film also stars Bérénice Marlohe, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Helen McCroy, Albert Finney, and Ralph FiennesSkyfall opens in IMAX and conventional theaters on November 9th.

First Teaser Poster for SKYFALL

by     Posted 2 years, 216 days ago

The first teaser poster for the new James Bond film Skyfall has gone online.  It’s not really much, but I guess the word “teaser” should have clued us in on that front.  It plays on the classic Bond imagery while hinting at a bit of a darker tone, and that may or may not be the London Underground.  I’m eager to see what Sam Mendes will do with the Bond universe, and he’s off to a great start as he’s assembled an incredible cast anchored by Javier Bardem as the villain.  This is just a teaser for what’s to come, and we should have a much better idea of what to expect once the teaser trailer debuts on Monday, May 21st at 8:30am BST.

Hit the jump to check out the poster.  And if you missed any of Steve’s set visit coverage, including a video blog recap and interviews with director Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig, producer Barbara Broccoli, Berenice Marlohe, and Naomie Harris and Ola Rapace, be sure to check it out.  Skyfall opens on November 9th.

Ola Rapace Talks SKYFALL, Playing a Villain, Working with Javier Bardem, and More

by     Posted 2 years, 229 days ago

It’s hard to believe just a few days ago I was on the set of the upcoming James Bond film, Skyfall, in Istanbul, Turkey.  As a lifelong Bond fan, getting to see Daniel Craig film part of a huge action scene near the famous Istanbul Spice Market was something I’ll always remember.  For more on the set visit – including a video blog recap – click here.  You can also read or listen to my interviews with director Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig, producer Barbara Broccoli, Berenice Marlohe, and Naomie Harris by clicking the links.

While in Istanbul, I was also able to participate in a roundtable interview with Ola Rapace.  Even though he was very guarded with his answers, we were able to find out that he’s the person that Bond is after at the beginning of the movie, and he may or may not be in business with Javier Bardem.  During the interview, Rapace talked about whether the script changed once he was cast, his training for the role, what it’s like to work with Bardem, filming around the world, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to read or listen to the interview.

Daniel Craig and Producer Barbara Broccoli Talk SKYFALL, Going “Classic Bond”, Invoking the Wit of Ian Fleming and More

by     Posted 2 years, 232 days ago

There is something about being in the presence of James Bond.  Maybe it’s because we all grew up watching the character.  Or maybe it’s because we wish we could be him—bedding beautiful women and killing bad guys with ease and style.  And although we all know Daniel Craig is not really James Bond, when he walks into a room filled with reporters from around the world to answer questions about Skyfall, the atmosphere changes.   It’s like everyone just had a few cups of coffee and they’re wide awake and ready to ask a lot of questions.  Trust me: not every actor gets that kind of response from entertainment journalists.

On Sunday afternoon, in Istanbul, Turkey, I got to participate in a roundtable interview with Daniel Craig and producer Barbara Broccoli.  Since Craig had to get back to set to film part of an action sequence on Skyfall, we had limited time.  However, even though Craig and Broccoli were guarded about giving away any of the twists and turns, they still talked about the strength of the script, the humor, how the upcoming teaser trailer only scratches the surface of what Skyfall is about, the stunts, invoking the wit of Ian Fleming, Easter eggs, if Bond 24 is really coming in 2014, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to listen or read the interview.

Director Sam Mendes Talks SKYFALL, How to Craft a Bond Film, the Franchise’s Similarity to DOCTOR WHO, and More

by     Posted 2 years, 232 days ago

While director Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition, Away We Go) has done a lot of press conferences for his upcoming James Bond movie, Skyfall, I’m pretty sure what you’re about to read is the first interview with any substance.  Usually, various press conferences for the film (including the one he did Sunday afternoon in Istanbul, Turkey) are about the city they’re filming in and what is it like to work with Daniel Craig or Naomie Harris.

However, on Sunday afternoon, shortly after the press conference, I participated in a small roundtable interview with Mendes where he actually went into detail about the movie.  He talked about how the script benefited from the production being pushed back, how they landed Javier Bardem and what type of villain he’s going to play, how Skyfall will show more of Bond and M’s relationship/backstory, how he loves what The Dark Knight and Bourne have done in terms of main characters, how audiences have embraced movies that go darker and more personal, the challenge of filming action scenes, and finding new ways to tell a Bond story.  Hit the jump to listen or read the interview.

Berenice Marlohe Talks SKYFALL, Playing a Femme Fatale/Bond Girl, How She Was Cast, and More

by     Posted 2 years, 232 days ago

In every James Bond movie, there is always an insanely attractive woman cast to play the so called “Bond Girl.”  In director Sam Mendes, Skyfall, the 23rd Bond movie currently filming in Istanbul, Turkey, she’s being played by French actress Berenice Marlohe.  And after speaking with her on Sunday afternoon with a small group of reporters, I can say that the role has been perfectly cast.

During the interview, Marlohe revealed what she could about her character, how the script changed since being cast, her thoughts on being a “Bond girl,” what kind of training she went through before filming began, if she plays a lethal femme fatale, her costumes, how she got cast, and more.  Hit the jump to either read or listen to the interview.

Naomie Harris Talks SKYFALL, Her Favorite Bond and Bond Girl, the Moneypenny Rumors and More

by     Posted 2 years, 232 days ago

In the upcoming James Bond movie, Skyfall, Naomie Harris plays Eve (not Moneypenny), and she’s out in the field fighting alongside Bond (Daniel Craig) against villains played by Javier Bardem and Ola Rapace.  On Sunday afternoon, during a roundtable interview in Istanbul, Turkey (where they’re currently filming), Harris talked about how she got involved in Skyfall, her character, preparing to do the action, what makes Craig special as Bond, her favorite Bond girl, what it’s like to work for director Sam Mendes, her reaction to reading the script for the first time, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to listen or read the interview.

New Behind-the-Scenes Video from SKYFALL Features Daniel Craig and Javier Bardem

by     Posted 2 years, 258 days ago

Some new behind-the-scenes video from the set of the new James Bond film, Skyfall, has gone online.  Unfortunately, it comes by way of Entertainment Tonight, so it’s not exactly the most hard-hitting of pieces.  We do get a look at Daniel Craig filming some scenes and the actor talks about how he and director Sam Mendes are putting their stamp on the franchise with the 23rd entry in the series.  We also hear from new Bond girl Bérénice Marlohe and the film’s baddie, Javier Bardem.  In addition, it’s revealed that filming will be taking place in Shanghai, Scotland, and Istanbul, as well as London.

Hit the jump to watch the video. The film also stars Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCroy, Albert Finney, and Ralph FiennesSkyfall opens on November 9th.

Cool Fan-Made Poster for New James Bond Film, SKYFALL

by     Posted 2 years, 281 days ago

It’s pretty safe to say that fans are quite looking forward to the next James Bond film, Skyfall. The franchise was rejuvenated with Daniel Craig in the excellent Casino Royale, and while the follow-up Quantum of Solace was a bit of a misfire, Skyfall has all the makings of a worthy entry to the classic series. Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Jarhead) is in the director’s chair, Javier Bardem is set as our villain, and Ralph Fiennes is onboard in a mysterious role. We got our first look at Bardem by way of some set photos just the other day, and while we’re eagerly awaiting Sony’s release of a trailer and poster, a pretty cool fan-made poster recently hit the web. It’s minimal, but the image of the smoking gun alongside the Skyfall logo gets the Bond message across loud and clear. It may be awhile before we see a full trailer given that Mendes is still in the middle of production, so this fan poster serves as a nice reminder that James Bond returns to theaters later this year.

Hit the jump to check out the fan poster. Skyfall opens November 9th in the US and on October 26th in the UK.

New Set Images of Daniel Craig from the New James Bond Film, SKYFALL

by     Posted 2 years, 320 days ago

Production is currently underway on the 23rd film in the James Bond franchise, Skyfall, and Daniel Craig has been spotted filming some cardio-heavy scenes. The first official still from the pic was released a few days ago, in which we saw Craig wielding a gun. These set photos may seem a bit redundant, as they again show Craig as Bond wielding a gun. The actor was apparently filming a scene that required him to run, and he’s also wearing a handy-dandy earpiece. Not much is known about the plot, but director Sam Mendes has assembled quite the cast so I’m very much looking forward to the next Bond entry.

Hit the jump to check out the set photos. The film also stars Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Ben Chaplin, Judi Dench, Berenice Marlohe, Helen McCroy, Albert Finney, and Ralph Fiennes. Skyfall opens November 9th.
