CBS has released the first full trailer for the limited series adaptation of the Stephen King novel Under the Dome.  For those unfamiliar, the supernatural thriller pits local folks against each other when they discover that their vacation town in Maine has been cut off from the rest of the world by a mysterious force field.  Comic book/TV writer Brian K. Vaughan (Lost) is a writer on the project and the pilot was directed by Girl with the Dragon Tattoo helmer Niels Oplev Arden, so the behind-the-scenes talent bodes well for the show.  This trailer does a swell job of appealing to genre fans, as we get a look at the cast of characters that will inhabit the town under the dome along with some intense action thrown in for good measure.  This all feels very Lost-like, so hopefully that’s a good thing.

The first footage from the adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Under the Dome has been released.  As probably the most anticipated new show coming out this summer, the first look includes scenes from the episodes as well as some behind-the-scenes interviews with King, the creative team, and several of the actors.  Not too much has been revealed about the adaptation, but from what could be gathered during their WonderCon  panel and this first look, it looks like this could very well be a riveting, suspenseful, and imaginative interpretation of the novel.

King himself has been very involved, but also vocal about his support for the show to deviate from the novel and explore other avenues with the characters and the story.  With Brian K. Vaughan (Lost) at the helm of the show and a talented cast that includes Rachelle Lefevre, Mike Vogel, Dean Norris, Britt Robertson, and Keith Harris, I’m expecting a solid and gripping thirteen episodes.  The series will premiere sometime in June.  Hit the jump for the first look.

A few months out from the festival, acquisitions of films that premiered at Sundance 2012 haven’t let up. Sony Pictures Worldwide announced today that they’ve acquired U.S. and Canadian rights to Jonathan Kasdan’s (In the Land of Women) The First Time. The film takes place over the course of one weekend and follows two high school students who fall in love. Though the logline may sound trite, the film picked up considerable notice at Sundance and drew comparisons to John Hughes’ filmography. Kasdan wrote and directed the pic, which stars Dylan O’Brien, Britt Robertson, Victoria Justice, and Craig Roberts.

One of the staples of the Scream franchise has always been the opening sequence. This past Spring’s fourth entry in the franchise was no exception, as it featured multiple fake-outs and the signature pop-culture-infused/meta dialogue that took that we’ve come to expect from the series. It’s no secret that director Wes Craven did some reshoots on Scream 4, and with the Blu-ray release of the flick we now have a chance to see some of the stuff that was discarded, like this alternate opening to the film. In the CW’s new supernatural drama The Secret Circle, from executive producer Kevin Williamson, Cassie Blake (Britt Robertson) moves in with her grandmother, after a tragic accidental fire kills her mother. But, in the beautiful small town of Chance Harbor, Washington – that her mother left so many years before – the residents seem to know more about Cassie than she does about herself. As Cassie gets to know her high school classmates, and strange and frightening things begin to happen, she soon learns that they are all descended from powerful witches, and they’ve been waiting for Cassie to join them and complete a new generation of the Secret Circle.

During a recent interview to promote the series, which premieres on September 15^th as a companion to The Vampire Diaries, actress Britt Robertson talked about how quickly this role came about for her, how new she is to the supernatural genre and the world of witchcraft, the challenge of working with green screen and CGI, that she’s looking forward to the moment when her character truly embraces her power, and that she would not know what to do with such power, if she personally learned that she was able to do magic. CW’s newest supernatural series, The Secret Circle, had a fun-filled pilot screening Saturday night in Room 6BCF. Despite a line that wrapped out of the building and by some nether-region of the San Diego Convention Center, I was shuffled through the doors in time to sit down and immediately soak the screening in. I’ll be upfront now, though: CW shows usually aren’t my thing. However, by the amount of catcalls and swoons, I can see that they have clearly worked out a niche market and aren’t going to stop in the near future.
