by     Posted 187 days ago

Last week E3 2014 came to a close, but it left plenty to be excited for in the near future.  The “Big 3”, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony, all have their Next Gen systems in consumer hands, so this year was all about proving why you shouldn’t lose faith in their product.  With owners of the Xbox One, Wii U, and Playstation 4 all clamoring for games for their libraries, there are quite a few titles I think you should be on the look out for.  Click on through to see my top games and over a 100 pictures of E3 2014.

Kevin Spacey Plays Your Digital Villain in the Reveal Trailer for CALL OF DUTY: ADVANCED WARFARE

by     Posted 235 days ago

Activision will announce the title and details for the next Call of Duty game on Sunday.  We have good reason to believe Kevin Spacey will play the villain.  On Wednesday, Complex posted this Spacey sound byte:

“And you think you can just march into these countries based on some fundamentalist religious principles, drop a few bombs, topple a dictator and start a democracy? Give me a break.”

On Thursday, it was linked to the new Call of Duty game by clever sleuthing and a more direct teaser for the game.  [Update from Matt: The full trailer has now gone online, and it's got a lot more Spacey.  The game also looks like a lot of fun, and I say that as someone who usually doesn't go for the Call of Duty franchise.]  Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare hits on November 4th.

Full Reveal Trailer and Behind-the-Scenes Video for CALL OF DUTY: GHOSTS

by     Posted 1 year, 215 days ago

As part of Xbox’s console announcement today (read Matt’s recap here), Microsoft introduced a couple of games that will be featured this fall as part of the Xbox One experience.  One of the most highly anticipated games is Infinity Ward’s follow-up to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, a wholly new Call of Duty video game featuring a new story and characters called Call of Duty: Ghosts.  The full reveal trailer for Ghosts is now online, and it’s very, very promising.  The video game was written by Oscar-winning Traffic and Syriana scribe Stephen Gaghan and takes place in the near future in which America’s forces have been nearly obliterated.  The protagonist is part of the resistance, a ragtag team made up of former members from various armed forces services such as Navy SEALs and Marines.  I love the underdog approach here and Gaghan’s involvement is incredibly promising.  Also, mo-cap dogs!

Hit the jump to watch the reveal trailer along with a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s enhancements.  Call of Duty: Ghosts will be available on November 5th.

YouTube’s Top 10 Trailers of 2012 Include CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS II, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, SKYFALL and More

by     Posted 2 years, 2 days ago

As we wind down to the final days of the year, the internet is flooded with countless “Top 10” lists consisting of pretty much everything that ever existed in the past 12 months.  YouTube is getting in on the fun, but their list is unique in that it’s a Top 10 list compiled using statistics instead of subjective opinion.  The site has unveiled the “Top Trailers on YouTube for 2012,” which they compiled based on view count, view rate (how much of a given trailer people chose to watch), and organic views.

The resulting list may surprise you, as a whopping four spots belong to the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops II alone.  There’s also one television show and five films that rank among 2012’s highest grossing films, though a major 2012 release is notably absent.  Hit the jump to take a look at the Top 10 Trailers on YouTube for the year.

Watch: Guy Ritchie’s Live-Action Trailer for CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS II Starring Robert Downey Jr.

by     Posted 2 years, 53 days ago

The holiday season is fast approaching, and a number of highly anticipated video game titles are hitting stores over the next few weeks to make for some great stocking stuffers.  We recently saw the David Fincher-produced launch trailer for Halo 4, and now a live-action trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops II directed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes) has been released.  It continues the series’ clever “there’s a gamer in all of us” campaign, but it goes one further as Ritchie’s buddy/frequent collaborator Robert Downey Jr. makes a fun cameo.  It’s a fun watch that also teases the future-set game’s new array of weapons and, of course, zombies.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  Written by David S. Goyer (Batman Begins) and Dave Anthony, the game features the voices of Sam Worthington and Michael Rooker, with music composed by Trent Reznor and Jack Wall.  Call of Duty: Black Ops II hits stores on November 13th.

by     Posted 2 years, 132 days ago

It’s been a busy week in the world of video game news.  On the disappointing side of things, it looks like Nintendo’s new console, the Wii U is going to have a delayed release in Europe due to some manufacturing difficulties (though it should still land stateside before Thanksgiving).  On the bright side: we have new looks at the weapons of Halo 4, a multiplayer trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops II and some in-game combat action for Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed III.  Hit the jump for all that and more!

Gary Oldman wrapped up his 3-day, 7-film retrospective at New York’s Landmark Sunshine Cinema with a fun, extended Q&A after Wednesday night’s screening of his Oscar-nominated performance in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

The first time Academy Award nominee fielded questions from a theater filled with hundreds of his fans with nearly an hour.  Oldman also hung around for autographs, pictures and additional questions.  Hit the jump for stories from the set of The Dark Knight Rises, his paralyzing doubt on Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and what he thought while watching Heath Ledger as The Joker.

Sam Worthington Talks MAN ON A LEDGE, His CALL OF DUTY Commercial with Jonah Hill, WRATH OF THE TITANS and THUNDER RUN

by     Posted 2 years, 331 days ago

With director Asger Leth’s (Ghosts of Cité Soleil) Man on a Ledge opening this weekend, I recently got to speak with most of the cast about making the movie.  The film centers on an ex-cop (Sam Worthington) convicted of a crime he didn’t commit who stands on the ledge of a Manhattan building, threatening to kill himself.  However, what appears to be a suicide attempt is something else altogether.  The film also stars Jamie Bell, Anthony Mackie, Elizabeth Banks, Ed Burns, Titus Welliver, Genesis Rodriguez, Kyra Sedgwick, and Ed Harris.

During my interview with Worthington we talked about how he got involved in Man on a Ledge, what was it like to really stand on the ledge, how many takes he likes to do, and if he was ever nervous.  In addition, we talked about video games, how he got cast in the Call of Duty commercial with Jonah Hill, how Wrath of the Titans is going to be different from the first film, and an upcoming project called Thunder Run that sounds very cool.  Hit the jump to watch.

CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 3 Made $1 Billion in 16 Days

by     Posted 3 years, 10 days ago

It’s no secret that people like video games, but boy do we love a good shooter. Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has crossed the $1 billion mark in a mere 16 days. Yes, $1 billion. This beats the previous record set in 2009 by Avatar, which hit the $1 billion mark in 17 days, solidifying MW3 as the game that everybody is playing. For comparison in the gaming world, it took Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 over two months to hit the $1 billion mark.

It’s important to note that MW3 is available on all platforms and each copy costs $60, with the “Hardened” edition retailing for $100, so that’s considerably more than the average movie ticket price (ie. less people bought MW3 than saw Avatar). However, $1 billion is still an incredibly impressive number and signifies the growing nature of the gamer market. Aiding in MW3’s success is the fact that it appeals to a wide range of gamers and features an extensive multiplayer experience that extends the game’s “I’m not bored with this yet”-ness (though I’ve recently fallen down the rabbit hole that is Skyrim). Live-Action CALL OF DUTY Video by YouTuber Freddie Wong

by     Posted 3 years, 357 days ago

Earlier this month we brought you a Lego version of the popular video game Call of Duty. Now, here’s an awesome video I found on Youtuber Freddy Wong’s channel that gives us a live-action adaptation of the first person shooter that stays truer to the game than I ever thought possible. If you visit Freddy W’s profile, you’ll be sure to find some of the most innovative homemade videos that make the best out of equipment which is not too expensive or unattainable. You’ll see that he is a huge fan of guns…lots of guns…and utilizes them to create some extremely well developed fight scenes. In fact, his work has quietly been so well received that he’s been able to enlist the help of a couple celebrities to be part of his videos, including Andy Whitfield (Spartacus: Blood and Sand) and Kevin Pollak (A Few Good Men).

Check out his latest video as well as my favorite Freddy W gun-fest after the jump.
