Javier Ruiz Caldera‘s Ghost Graduation mashes-up The Sixth Sense, Heart and Souls, and The Breakfast Club, and does so with a big smile on its face.  Happily aware of the clichés of ghost films, Ghost Graduation has plenty of fun embracing the major rules of the genre (body possession, walking through walls, etc.) while still poking fun at the little quirks.  Caldera and his charming cast have created a sweet film that never gets too saccharine, and a nice parody that never becomes too self-aware.

Sony Pictures Classics announced today that it has acquired North American rights to writer/director Pedro Almodovar’s next film, I’m So Excited.  Plot details are firmly under wraps, but the pic is described as an ensemble comedy written and directed by the Talk to Her filmmaker.  The cast for I’m So Excited includes Javier Cámara, Cecilia Roth, Lola Dueñas, Raul Arévalo, Carlos Areces, Antonio de la Torre, Hugo Silva, and more, with “special collaborations” from Antonio Banderas, Penelope Cruz and Paz Vega.

Almodovar’s most recent film, last year’s The Skin I Live In, was met with a mixed yet enthusiastic response.  Production on I’m So Excited is scheduled to get underway next month for a release date sometime next year.  Hit the jump to read the press release, which includes the full cast list.

Two Teaser Posters for Nacho Vigalondo’s EXTRATERRESTRE

Two teaser posters for Nacho Vigalondo’s Extraterrestre have landed online and, as far as I’m concerned, they look great.  The film is Vigalondo’s feature-length writing/directing follow-up (he also wrote/directed the 2009 short Marisa) to a personal favorite of mine, 2007′s Timecrimes.  While many particulars from the film are still unknown, based upon the posters, we can reasonably infer that an alien invasion is occurring at the worst possible time (if given the choice, I’d prefer an invasion occur sometime between breakfast and my afternoon block of Wife Swap): right as someone is falling in love.

Currently scheduled for a 2011 release, Extraterrestre stars Spanish actors Michelle Jenner, Carlos Areces, and Julian Villagran. To check out the posters (one of which is Space Invaders-inspired) as well as a short synopsis for the film, hit the jump.
