It’s Still All about the Blood in New Image from CARRIE Starring Chloe Grace Moretz

The marketing for Kimberly Peirce‘s upcoming remake of Carrie has been all about showing its eponymous troubled protagonist (Chloe Grace Moretz) drenched in blood, and a new image from the film continues that trend.  Moretz has got the crazy eyes going in this new image, which is good because otherwise she would look like an intact zombie.  For those unfamiliar with the story, it revolves around a young girl with telekinesis who is abused at home by her ultra-religious mother (Julianne Moore) and tormented at school by her peers.  It does not go well for the people who mess with Carrie.

TOP 5: New York Comic-Con, TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D Set Visit, Wally Pfister Calls THE AVENGERS “Appalling”, CARRIE Teaser Trailer, Hugo Weaving vs. TRANSFORMERS

In the spirit of the Halloween season, last night I watched The Cabin in the Woods again for the first time since catching it in theaters back in April. After a second viewing, my feelings on the film haven’t really changed. I love it. I love it with the passion of an army of “Mermen”. It’s just a brilliant blend of satire, horror and comedy and I’ll argue all day/all night with anyone who tells me differently (in all fairness, it’s okay if you don’t like the movie…you’re wrong, but it’s okay). If you’re like me and enjoy taking in horror classics around good ol’ All Hallows’ Eve, I ask that you do yourself a favor and include The Cabin in the Woods in your classic programming slate. You’ll either (A) love it or (B) have the opportunity to argue with me all day/all night. It’s a win-win.

With my Halloween viewing recommendation in hand, I’ll now present to you this week’s edition of our Top 5. In this week’s iteration is our coverage of New York Comic-Con 2012, yours truly’s Texas Chainsaw 3D set visit, Wally Pfister using the words “appalling” and The Avengers in the same sentence and all hell breaking loose shortly thereafter, the first teaser trailer for director Kimberly Peirce‘s Carrie remake, and Hugo Weaving vs. Transformers. A brief recap and link to each patiently awaits your attention after the jump.

New York Comic-Con: CARRIE Panel Recap; First Look at the Teaser Trailer, Buckets of Blood, the First Poster, and More

Remaking Carrie is a tough prospect.  Even if it hadn’t been made into a classic horror film in 1976 by director Brian De Palma, you’d still be adapting a beloved book by Stephen King.  However, director Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry) has a pretty good shot at her new adaptation by finding a new take on the material that goes further in depth regarding the relationship between abused telekinetic teenager Carrie White and her mother Margaret.  The shot at successful remake becomes even higher when you have Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore playing Carrie and Maragret, respectively.  At this year’s New York Comic-Con, we got our first look at Peirce’s remake, and it looks like she may have brought King’s troubled girl back from the dead with more than just an inopportune grave visit.

New Synopses for Fede Alvarez’s EVIL DEAD and Kimberly Peirce’s CARRIE Remakes

When Hollywood decides to greenlight a remake, we’re always interested to see if the contemporary director will put an original spin on the project or if it will be a shot-for-shot remake (see: Gus Van Sant’s 1998 Psycho remake).  So now that 2013 will feature remakes of Sam Raimi’s 1981cult classic Evil Dead and Brian De Palma’s 1976 adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie, we’re at least curious as to which, if either, will offer moviegoers something new on the big screen.

Fede Alvarez’s The Evil Dead stars Jane Levy (Suburgatory), Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood), Lou Taylor Pucci (Carriers), Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield) and Elizabeth Blackmore (Burning Man) and opens April 12th, 2013.  Kimberly Perice’s Carrie remake stars Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass) in the title role alongside Judy Greer (13 Going on 30), Portia Doubleday (Youth in Revolt), Alex Russell (Chronicle), Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers), Ansel Elgort and Julianne Moore (Magnolia), opening March 15th, 2013.  Hit the jump to check out the new official synopses.

First Images from Kimberly Peirce’s New Adaptation of CARRIE Starring Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore

Screen Gems has released the first images from Kimberly Peirce‘s new adaptation of Stephen King‘s Carrie.  Of course, there could be no better image than the signature scene of the eponymous bullied telepath (this time played by the talented Chloe Moretz) drenched in blood.  Moretz tells EW that when it came to filming the scene, “We only have, like, four chances to get it right because that stuff stains your hair.”  EW also has the first image of Julianne Moore as Carrie’s abusive, religious mother.  As opposed to Brian De Palma‘s classic 1976 film starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie, the remake will reportedly focus on the relationship between Carrie and her mother.  While there’s not much to gleam from these two images, Peirce definitely has two incredibly talented actresses in the lead roles, so I’m curious to see how this new take will play out.

Hit the jump to check out the images along with what Moore had to say about her character.  Carrie hits theaters on March 13, 2013.

Production has officially started in Toronto for Boys Don’t Cry director Kimberly Peirce’s remake of Stephen King’s Carrie, starring Chloe Grace Moretz. Up until now, we’ve only been able to bring you casting news on the horror picture, which stars Julianne Moore, Judy Greer, Portia Doubleday, Gabriella Wilde and Ansel Elgort. The new press release provides a few more plot details, which leads us to believe they’re sticking quite closely to the source material.  I’m not 100% up to date on the differences between the novel and the 1976 Brian De Palma film, but Moretz recently stated that the new version will be closer to the book.  Hit the jump for more plot details on Peirce’s version of Carrie, along with a first look at Moretz in the title role.

The cast is really starting to shape up for Kimberley Peirce’s (Boys Don’t Cry) remake of the classic horror film, Carrie.  The new adaptation of the Stephen King source novel already features Chloe Moretz in the title role with Julianne Moore playing Carrie’s conservative and controlling mother.  Now, it looks like one of Carrie’s classmate tormenters are in the process of being cast, with Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers) having recently joined.  Judy Greer (13 Going on 30) is reportedly in talks to play the pivotal role of the girls’ gym teacher.  It’s not known yet whether the Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Big Love) adaptation will follow Brian De Palma’s original to the letter or if some artistic license will be taken.  Hit the jump for more info on the Carrie casting news. [Update: We've received word that Ivana Baquero is no longer in consideration for the role.  Also, no casting decisions have yet been made for the role of the gym teacher.]

SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK Writer to Pen CARRIE Remake, Joins Writing Staff of GLEE

Roberto-Aguirre-Sacasa-carrie-glee-slice

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a playwright/screenwriter/comic-book writer, has been tapped to write a remake of 1976’s Carrie and has joined Fox’s musical series Glee as a writer and co-producer. Aguirre-Sacasa was most recently brought in to do script work on the plagued Broadway production Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. The retooled version of Spider-Man must be pretty damn great (At this point, if they can go one night without having people fall out of the sky, it’ll be deemed a vast improvement), because Aguirre-Sacasa has secured himself two fairly high-profile gigs. Until now, the writing staff of Glee has only been comprised of the three creators of the show, taking turns writing successive episodes for the past two seasons.

Deadline reports that MGM and Screen Gems’ remake of Carrie will be closer to Stephen King’s source material than the 1976 film, à la the Coen brothers’ remake of True Grit. Furthermore, Aguirre-Sacasa previously adapted King’s The Stand into a comic-book, so he’s got a bit of a feel for King’s stuff. He’s also got some experience in TV, as he was writer on HBO’s Big Love. Maybe some new blood on the Glee writing staff will pull the show out of the creative hell it’s been in all season. Or at least finally bring some much needed earnestness to the show. Hit the jump for a synopsis of Stephen King’s Carrie.
