Paramount Pictures has released the first Top Five trailer for the upcoming comedy from writer, director, and star Chris Rock.  The comedian plays a loosely fictionalized version of himself in the film, whose unexpected encounter with a journalist forces him to confront both the career that made him famous and the life he left behind.  The picture was the highest profile acquisition of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, with Paramount paying a whopping $12.5 million in a bidding war to acquire the distribution rights to the film.  The movie looks a little like Chris Rock’s Funny People, as it takes some digs at his own career path, and there are a ton of cameos from a wide range of familiar faces.

Smoove, Gabrielle Union, Tracy Morgan, Cedric the Entertainer, Kevin Hart, Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd, Jay Pharoah, Anders Holm, and Michael Che, and features music by Questlove.

Last month, we reported that Dane Cook would lead the voice cast of Disney’s Cars spin-off, Planes.  His character, Dusty, dreams of being a racer, but because he’s not built for it, he turns to a seasoned naval aviator to help him take on the defending champ of the racing circuit.  Today, Disney has announced the actors voicing the supporting characters.  It’s a surprisingly large cast that has Top Gun‘s Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards voicing fighter jets, which is a nice touch.  The voice cast also includes Stacy Keach, Cedric the Entertainer, Teri Hatcher, Brad Garrett, Roger Craig Smith, Gabriel Iglesias, Carlos Alazraqui, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, John Cleese, Priyanka Chopra, Sinbad, Brent Musburger, and ESPN’s vile radio host Colin Cowherd.  Cowherd voices blimp “Colin Cowling”.  It is currently unknown if the blimp will engage in race-baiting.

New Red Band Trailer for PARANORMAL ACTIVITY Spoof A HAUNTED HOUSE Starring Marlon Wayans

A new red band trailer for the spoof A Haunted House has been released online.  Co-writer and star Marlon Wayans looks to be trying to recapture some of that Scary Movie magic with this pic, as it basically combines elements from Paranormal Activity and The Devil Inside with the same type of parody comedy that the Wayans Brothers used to great success with the Scary Movie franchise.  The results here are fairly stale, as Scary Movie itself spawned numerous terrible copycat films that drove the parody genre into the ground.  There are one or two mildly funny moments in this sex joke-heavy red band trailer, but nothing to suggest that A Haunted House is a must-see comedy.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  Directed by Michael Tiddes (Dance Flick), the film also stars Essence Atkins, David KoechnerNick Swardson, and Cedric the Entertainer.  A Haunted House opens on January 11th.

Remember when Scary Movie came out, made a bunch of money, and invaded the zeitgeist?  Well Marlon Wayans hopes you do, as the first trailer for his new Paranormal Activity spoof A Haunted House has landed online.  It’s looks exactly like you’d expect it to, but there are one or two chuckles sprinkled in between the fart jokes and screaming.  The film tackles the “found footage” craze, most prominently spoofing Paranormal Activity and The Devil Inside.  I’m interested to see if these kinds of comedies even appeal to moviegoers anymore.  Will audiences show up or have the endless Scary Movie sequels killed the horror spoof genre that the Wayans brothers practically invented?

LARRY CROWNE Review

In 1996, Tom Hanks made his writing-directing debut with the harmless but charming That Thing You Do.  After writing and directing episodes of the miniseries From the Earth to the Moon and Band of Brothers, Hanks has returned to feature films with Larry Crowne.  While his direction remains competent and innocuous, his screenplay, which he co-wrote with Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) relies far too heavily on meaningless quirks and undercooks both the title character’s development and his romance with his public speaking teacher, Mercedes Tainot (Julia Roberts).  Larry Crowne manages to deliver a steady stream of laughs, but like everything else in the movie, they feel unearned.

7 Clips and a Featurette from LARRY CROWNE Starring Tom Hanks and Julie Roberts

Universal has sent over 7 clips and a featurette from Larry Crowne.  Directed by and starring Tom Hanks, the story centers on a laid-off middle-aged man (Hanks) who goes back to college and strikes up a relationship with one of his professors (Julia Roberts).  Larry Crowne is the first film Hanks has directed since 1996’s That Thing You Do, and he co-wrote the script with Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding).   While the story seems pretty simple, Hanks has proven himself behind the camera and people love the guy.  What I’m trying to say is…I’m pretty sure Larry Crowne is going to be a big hit for Universal.  Hanks and Roberts are joined in the film by Bryan Cranston, Cedric the Entertainer, Taraji P. Henson, Gugu Mbatha Raw, Wilmer Valderrama, Pam Grier, Rami Malek, George Takei, Grace Gummer, Rita Wilson, and Jon Seda.  Check out the clips after the jump.  Larry Crowne hits theaters July 1st.

Co-written, directed by and starring Tom Hanks, the story centers on a laid-off middle-aged man (Hanks) who goes back to college and strikes up a relationship with one of his professors (Julia Roberts). The new trailer is fairly similar to the first one that was released, but we do get a look at a pitch-perfect George Takei as an Economics professor. Hanks’ previous directorial effort, That Thing You Do!, is fantastic, and he’s assembled a top-notch cast here for what looks to be some nice light-hearted relief in the middle of a summer full of blockbusters and “Kevin James babysits a cat” comedies.

Hanks and Roberts are joined in the film by Bryan Cranston, Taraji P. Henson, Cedric the Entertainer and Rami Malek. Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Larry Crowne hits theaters July 1st.

Tom Hanks knows how to use the Twitter machine.  This past weekend, he posted a picture of his still incomplete casting wall for his new movie Larry Crowne.  When casting is finished, he will gaze at the wall and whisper, “You complete me,” and everyone else in the office will shift uncomfortably in their seats.

Among the new cast members are Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), two-time Emmy winner Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), George Takei (Original Star Trek), Wilmer Valderrama (That 70s Show), and Cedric the Entertainer (Cadillac Records).  They’ll join stars Hanks and Julia Roberts in the story of “a man (Hanks) forced to reinvent himself and find a new career as he navigates the second act of his life.”  Crowne will be the first film Hanks has directed since 1996′s That Thing You Do.

Liam Neeson and Cedric the Entertainer Join Cast of Lee Daniels’ SELMA

Still riding high on his multiple Academy Award nominations, breakout director Lee Daniels (Precious) has been busy putting together the cast for his next picture, Selma.  The movie will focus on the pivotal Civil Rights march which Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in 1965.

Over the past few weeks Daniels has confirmed that Hugh Jackman and Lenny Kravitz  will play key roles in Selma.  And today MTV is reporting that Liam Neeson and Cedric the Entertainer have also joined the cast.  Neeson will be playing President Lyndon Johnson, and Cedric will portray Ralph Abernathy, who helped King to organize the march.

The role of Dr. King will be played by David Oyelowo (The Last King of Scottland).  The role of Alabama Governor George Wallace has not yet been cast, but is expected to be filled soon.  It was presumed that Robert De Niro would play the role, but MTV says his collaboration with Daniels will likely not be with this project.
