In today’s opening paragraph I feel compelled to share this bit of wisdom with all of our readers: don’t ever attempt to renovate a house without ample professional help. Never. Just don’t do it. For the past three weeks I, the least handy person you may never meet, have been tasked with doing things that only Bob Vila and a few select others could be reasonably prepared for. It’s an all-consuming, seemingly neverending process that leaves you as the only movie blogger in the history of the civilized world who hasn’t yet seen The Avengers. Trust me, it’s a lonely place…

All warnings aside, in store for you in this week’s Top 5 is the first poster for the Anchorman sequel, Anchorman: The Legend Continues, pleasant news regarding the Blade Runner sequel, interviews with Cameron Diaz, Anna Kendrick and more for the rom-com What to Expect When You’re Expecting, the first trailer for producer Sam Raimi‘s The Possession, and a 4-minute “super preview” of The Amazing Spider-Man. Per usual, a brief recap and link to each falls after the jump.

New Trailer for WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING

what-to-expect-when-youre-expecting-trailer-slice

A new trailer for the star-filled feature version of What to Expect When You’re Expecting has arrived. When a trailer begins with the voiceover, “Having a baby can be a real mother,” it can only go uphill. The movie is essentially Valentine’s Day with babies, as we see a bunch of famous people deal with the ups and downs of pregnancy. Chris Rock and Rob Heubel continue to be the highlights of the footage, and this trailer inexplicably gets rid of all the female characters halfway through. I’m no expert, but I’m fairly certain that ladies are a vital necessity for the production of little humans.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The cast also includes Anna Kendrick, Cameron Diaz, Dennis Quaid, Jennifer Lopez, Rodrigo Santoro, Joe Manganiello, Chace Crawford, Matthew Morrison, Brooklyn Decker, Thomas Lennon, and Wendy McLendon-Covey. What to Expect When You’re Expecting opens on May 12th.

First Trailer for WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING Starring Elizabeth Banks and Cameron Diaz

by     Posted 2 years, 321 days ago

The first trailer for What to Expect When You’re Expecting has debuted and it’s actually not bad at all. Given the film’s large ensemble and multiple storyline style, I figured we were in for the Valentine’s Day of baby movies, but What to Expect actually looks like a solid comedy. The standouts here are Elizabeth Banks and Rob Heubel, with the latter playing a man who really, really shouldn’t be a father. Unlike Valentine’s Day or New Year’s Eve, this movie appears to be actually telling real stories with interesting characters, with some solid laughs thrown in for good measure.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The cast also includes Anna Kendrick, Cameron Diaz, Dennis Quaid, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Rock, Chace Crawford, Matthew Morrison, Brooklyn Decker, Thomas Lennon, and Wendy McLendon-Covey. [Update: We've been sent a high resolution image from the film, which is now included after the jump].

Chace Crawford is the latest addition to the burgeoning cast of Kirk Jones’ (Everybody’s Fine) baby pic What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Lionsgate announced that the Gossip Girl star will play a man who reunites with an old flame (Anna Kendrick) following a turf war between their food trucks. Being the nice food truck attendant that he is, Crawford knocks Kendrick’s character up.

Based on the best-selling pregnancy guide, the film will tell the story of four interweaving couples Love Actually-style. The cast now includes Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Brooklyn Decker, Elizabeth Banks, and Rob Huebel. Rodrigo Santoro and Chris Rock are also reportedly in talks to join the cast. The film opens May 11th, 2012. Hit the jump to read the full press release.

TWELVE Trailer Starring Chace Crawford

Joel Schumacher’s Twelve came in to Sundance 2010 with a lot of buzz, but left with a rather tarnished reputation.  The hyper-stylized nature of this new trailer seems to be true to the film, which follows 17-year-old “philosophical drug dealer” White Mike and his interactions with a new drug nicknamed “twelve”.  Chace Crawford stars as White Mike (can’t get enough of that character name) in this adaptation of the Nick McDonnell novel; Emma Roberts, Rory Culkin, and a non-emaciated 50 Cent co-star.

If nothing else, the slick trailer did introduce me to the too-hip sounds of The Phenomenal Handclap Band, making good use of their “15 to 20.”  Maybe Twelve can beat the bad buzz when it arrives in theaters on July 30, 2010.  Check out the clip after the jump.

Is Thomas Dekker FOOTLOOSE and Fancy Free?

After Zac Efron and Chace Crawford signed on for and then subsequently dropped out of the forthcoming remake of the dance flick Footloose, the nostalgia piece has been in need of a rhythmic star.  Paramount may have just found one in Thomas Dekker.  The 22-year-old Dekker has been building a name for himself with series stints on Heroes and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and recently starred in the Nightmare on Elm Street remake.  Plus, good buzz surrounds his role in the Cannes film Kaboom, so Dekker has merited consideration for the lead role of Ren McCormack.

In the 1984 original, it was a young Kevin Bacon who played Ren, a “dance-happy outsider who shakes up a small town” [24 Frames].  Like his HSM star, director Kenny Ortega boarded then departed the remake over the last year, while Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) took over the reins.  Paramount just announced a casting call for Footloose with intent to shoot this summer, suggesting casting notices will soon be official.  Hit the jump for a synopsis of the original, plus my choice for the lead role.

FOOTLOOSE is Casting; Paramount Plans to Shoot This Summer

Footloose casting search slice

Footloose is one of those projects that Paramount has been trying to get off the ground for a long time. Originally, the studio had High School Musical director Kenny Ortega attached to the project with Zac Efron as the lead. Efron then dropped out and Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl) stepped in. A little while later, both Kenny Ortega and Crawford dropped out and the studio brought in director Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow). But with the way the project has played musical chairs, many figured another problem was just around the corner.

But…Paramount has just announced a casting call for Footloose and the announcement says they are filming this summer. A studio doesn’t make this kind of announcement unless things are really moving forward. So do you “have natural rhythm” and are you comfortable dancing? If you do…hit the jump:

Craig Brewer Confirmed to Direct Remake of FOOTLOOSE

by     Posted 4 years, 196 days ago

slice_craig_brewer_footloose_01.jpg

Last October, we reported that director Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) may be stepping in to replace High School Musical director Kenny Ortega.  Variety now confirms that Brewer will take the helm and use his rewritten script.  However, the film once again is looking for a lead after lead Chace Crawford dropped out due to a scheduling conflict with Gossip Girl.  Crawford stepped in to replace Zac Efron who was was originally set to star but dropped out in March 2009 due to his fear he may end up being typecast.  Brewer’s remake will focus more on the drama of the original film-which starred Kevin Bacon as city kid who moves to a conservative town that has banned dancing and rock music-rather than elaborate musical numbers.

Brewer also has the action-comedy Mother Trucker in the pipeline, but will make Footloose his next picture.  That’s a shame because Mother Trucker sounds so much better.  It’s about a man who escapes from prison, hijacks an 18-wheeler, and races across the South to see his dying mother.

Ryan Phillippe Joins the Many Names Under Consideration for CAPTAIN AMERICA

Ryan Phillippe Captain America.jpg

I have an exclusive announcement: I am under consideration for the lead role in The First Avenger: Captain America.  Well okay, not yet exactly.  But once they cycle through every young white male in Hollywood, they’ll get to my alliterative name.

The tale of super soldier Steve Rogers is one of the hottest untapped superhero properties on the market, so this is obviously a huge role for whoever lands it, but it’s getting difficult to keep track of all the contenders.  The first we heard, John Krasinski, Michael Cassidy, Patrick Flueger, Scott Porter, Mike Vogel, Chace Crawford, Garrett Hedlund, and Jensen Ackles were all on the shortlist.  After a short-lived rumor that Krasinski was a lock came word that he was anything but; in fact, Tron: Legacy star Hedlund and Vogel (Cloverfield) made it to the top of the initial heap, now joined by Fantastic Four‘s Chris Evans.  To add to the confusion, Hitfix has another name for us that teases great things: Ryan Phillippe.  Details on what Marvel is trying to tell us after the jump.

Is This the Official Synopsis for THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA? And is Filming Set to Begin June 28, 2010?

The synopsis for The First Avenger: Captain America might have been released thanks to a casting announcement on featurecasting.com.  Also, thanks to the same release, it’s looking like filming is set to begin on June 28, 2010.  With a release date of July 22, 2011, and the fact that director Joe Johnston recently told me he’s busy in pre-production, the filming date sounds pretty accurate.
