GAME OF THRONES Renewed for Season 4?

You don’t argue with Charles Dance.  If he says HBO’s Game of Thrones is going to be renewed for a fourth season, then you damn well better believe it and then thank him for not feeding you to the pigs.  While HBO was quick to point out that Dance’s comment on prepping for the upcoming fourth season isn’t exactly officially binding since the cast and crew do a lot of pre-production work before going into filming, I’d be one surprised Westerosi if Game of Thrones didn’t get renewed for season four.  Since the upcoming third season only tackles half of George R.R. Martin’s third novel in the series, they would at the very least need to wrap things up.  It’s looking more likely that HBO will catch up to Martin’s plots before the author finishes them himself!

Game of Thrones returns to HBO for its third season starting Sunday, March 31st at 9pm. Hit the jump to see what Dance had to say.

It’s still nearly two months away from the debut of season three of HBO’s Game of Thrones, but these new character images should help pass the time.  Featuring new looks at old characters and first looks at new cast additions, these images showcase the outstanding costume design that’s been a hallmark of the series.  Fan-favorite Peter Dinklage returns with a whole new look while we get our first introductions to such new players as Clive Russell (Sherlock Holmes) as Catelyn Stark’s dutiful uncle, Bryndon Tully (“The Blackfish”) and Paul Kaye (Match Point) as Thoros of Myr, a red priest of the same order as Stannis’ go-to sorceress Melisandre, plus a lot more.  Hit the jump to check them out.  Game of Thrones returns to HBO starting March 31st.

UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING Blu-ray Review

underworld-awakening-blu-ray-slice

The Underworld series has always been more style than substance. Or, more accurately, all style and no substance. That’s not necessarily a fault; plenty of films have succeeded primarily on flair. Alex Proyas’ The Crow, for example. The original Underworld, helmed by Len Wiseman and starring wife Kate Beckinsale, never approached (or aimed for) the haunting visual poetry of that film. But in the beginning, it got by on an inherently cool premise (werewolves and vampires at war) and competently staged action. Four films in, the novelty’s worn off.

Underworld: Awakening sees Beckinsale slipping back into her famed leather catsuit after sitting out the last prequel entry; and while she fits the role of undead “Death Dealer” Selene well as ever, the franchise to which she returns is a bloated corpse. Hit the jump for our review of Underworld: Awakening on Blu-ray.

Screen Gems has sent over 5 movie clips and 12 images for Underworld: Awakening, the fourth entry in the Vampires vs. Lycans franchise.  Kate Beckinsale returns as Selene, “who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.”  Stephen Rea, Michael Ealy, Theo James, India Eisley, and Charles Dance also star; Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein directed the January 20, 2012 release.  While I’m under embargo from writing what I thought, I suggest watching my interview with Beckinsale from earlier today, as I may have said something on camera.

Earlier this year, I got to visit the set of Underworld: Awakening while the production was filming in Vancouver.  While I’m embargoed for a few more days from writing about the visit, I’m putting the articles together in our backend and just pulled a ton of screengrabs from the teaser trailer that hit a few days ago.  Since Screen Gems has barely released any images from the 4th Underworld, after the jump you can check out 18 new ones.  I was able to get a few of the creatures, and a number of images of Kate Beckinsale.  For more on Underworld: Awakening, I suggest checking back on Monday morning.  Until then…

7 Clips for YOUR HIGHNESS Starring Danny McBride and James Franco

by     Posted: March 26th, 2011 at 7:41 pm

Universal has released 7 clips for their upcoming hard-R comedy Your Highness.  The film stars Danny McBride as a lazy prince who is forced to go on a quest with his brother (James Franco) to rescue his brother’s fiancée (Zooey Deschanel) from an evil wizard (Justin Theroux).  I haven’t seen the film yet but I’ve heard it’s hilarious and that folks are amazed with what director David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) and writers McBride and Ben Best (Eastbound & Down) got away with.

Hit the jump to check out the clips.  The film also stars Natalie Portman, Rasmus Hardiker, Toby Jones, Charles Dance, and Damian Lewis.  Your Highness opens April 8th.

Keira Knightley will provide the voice of Tinker Bell in Sky Movies HD and Syfy’s Live-Action Peter Pan prequel, Neverland.  Knightley joins Rhys Ifans, Anna Friel, Bob Hoskins, Charles Dance, and Charlie Rowe in the two-part movie, which is scheduled to air this summer.  The prequel re-imagines Peter Pan and his Lost Boys as a group of pickpockets who are transported to Neverland by a magical orb.  It’s the second Peter Pan prequel we’ve heard of in recent weeks, joining Pan, which will star Channing Tatum and was picked up by Sony Pictures.

Hit the jump for the full press release.  Knightley will be seen later this year in the dramas Last Night and A Dangerous Method.  She’s also circling roles in David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis and Joe Wright’s adaptation of Anna Karenina.
