First AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Trailer Teases Dark Tone, Catastrophic Destruction

Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer

The first Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer for writer/director Joss Whedon’s highly anticipated superhero follow-up has leaked online under a week before its official release.  The sequel finds Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) teaming up once again to battle the devious robot known as Ultron (James Spader).  This is very close to the footage that was shown at Comic-Con, save for a different final shot and an extended clip that was shown of the so-called “Avengers Party.”  What’s clear from this trailer is that the tone is darker, the stakes are higher, and the threat is seemingly more nefarious.

Watch the trailer after the jump.  Avengers: Age of Ultron also stars Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-JohnsonPaul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Andy Serkis, and Samuel L. Jackson and opens in theaters May 1, 2015.

IN THE HEART OF THE SEA Trailer: Chris Hemsworth is Shipwrecked in Ron Howard’s New Drama

by     Posted 15 days ago

in-the-heart-of-the-sea-trailer

Have you ever read Nathaniel Philbrick‘s book, In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex?  It’s a riveting tale of survival that goes to some wildly dark, disturbing places that you won’t soon forget and this first trailer for Ron Howard‘s big screen rendition certainly reflects that.  Back in 1820 the whaleship Essex was rammed by an angry whale in the South Pacific.  Those who survived the attack drifted for more than 90 days in three small whaleboats during which many fell victim to disease, hunger and cannibalism.

Not only does this new promo for the film boast some stunning cinematography with a striking and tonally appropriate color palette, but it also functions as a particularly effective tease of the narrative.  It does reveal a good deal of action and destruction, but rather than sensationalize the tale to build interest, it keeps the characters in the forefront, and that’s what could make the feature a standout.  Hit the jump to watch the In the Heart of the Sea trailer.  The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin WalkerTom HollandBrendon GleesonCillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw, and Jordi MollaIn the Heart of the Sea opens in theaters on March 13, 2015.

Chris Hemsworth Battles a White Whale in First IN THE HEART OF THE SEA Images from Ron Howard’s Drama

Warner Bros. has released the first In the Heart of the Sea images from director Ron Howard’s upcoming drama.  Based on Nathaniel Philbrick’s excellent book of the same name, the film tells the story of the whaling ship Essex, which in 1819 was rammed by an angry whale in the South Pacific.  The surviving crew drifted for 90 days in three tiny whaleboats and encountered disease, hunger, and eventually cannibalism.  It’s a heartwrenching true story, and it served as the basis for Herman Melville’s Moby Dick.  Howard’s fantastic cast is led by Chris Hemsworth as the ship’s first mate, Tom Holland as a young cabin boy who eventually tells his tale to Melville once he’s an adult, and Benjamin Walker as Captain George Pollard Jr.  All of the actors lost a significant amount of weight for the film.  Philbrick’s book is positively enthralling, and after Howard’s swell Rush, I’m really looking forward to seeing how he brings Heart of the Sea to life.

Hit the jump to check out the first In the Heart of the Sea images, and check back on Collider soon to watch the first trailer.  The film also stars Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw, and Jordi MollaIn the Heart of the Sea opens in theaters on March 13, 2015.

New BLACKHAT Trailer and Images Have Chris Hemsworth Going around the Globe to Stop Cybercrime in Michael Mann’s New Thriller

Legendary and Universal have released the first trailer for Michael Mann‘s new film, BlackhatChris Hemsworth plays “a furloughed convict and his American and Chinese partners as they hunt a high-level cybercrime network,” and that brief logline is really all I can tell you after watching this trailer, which seems startling schizophrenic.  There are crime aspects, but there’s also globe-trotting action spectacle along with “serious” commentary on our digitally interconnected world.  I like how it’s trying to be scary about how “vulnerable” we all are even though that’s just life.  I’m really hoping this movie is more than sensationalism, and Mann has delivered something that’s on par with the thoughtful crime films we’ve seen from him in the past.

THE HUNTSMAN Prequel Set For April 2016, THE MUMMY Moves to June

the-huntsman-release-date

I never saw Snow White and the Huntsman, it just didn’t seem like my thing.  Which makes it kind of hard for me to be interested in a followup or spin-off aside from the fact that one of my favorite directors, Frank Darabont, will be helming it (he also did the newest draft of the script).  But it’s coming anyway, and now we get the news that this new film, called The Huntsman, is actually a prequel (which makes more sense).  And yes, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron will be returning (although Kristen Stewart won’t).  The new film hits on April 22nd, 2016.

Yesterday we also got the news that Alex Kurtzman would be directing The Mummy reboot, part of a larger cinematic universe for Universal.  That film has now moved to get out of The Huntsman‘s way and will come out on June 24th, 2016.  Hit the jump for more on The Huntsman release date and what lays ahead in the film.

Chris-Hemsworth-Abengers-Age-of-Ultron-Comic-Con-interview

After the epic Marvel panel this past Saturday at the San Diego Comic-Con, Steve was able to speak with several cast members of the upcoming Avengers: Age of UltronChris Hemsworth is one of the more integral performers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, anchoring the Thor franchise and playing a key role in the Avengers, so naturally he was on the list.

After the footage from Avengers: Age of Ultron brought the house down (by all accounts) in Hall H, Steve caught up with Hemsworth to talk about the film’s balance of action with writer/director Joss Whedon’s patented banter.  He also addresses Ultron’s impact on the story, what it’s like having Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in the fold and when he’s shooting Thor 3.  Hit the jump for our Comic-Con interview with Chris Hemsworth.

As you can tell by the absolutely massive amount of Comic-Con content on the site at the moment, it’s been a whirlwind last few days here in San Diego at Comic-Con 2014.  The festivities are winding down, and while we still have a fair amount of SDCC content yet to post, this Sunday we thought we’d bring the large majority of people that were unable to attend the convention a little closer to arguably the biggest panel of the convention: Marvel.  This year, Marvel Studios showcased Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man during its Saturday night Hall H panel, and while the lack of surprises made the proceedings a tad underwhelming, it was nevertheless an entertaining affair.  If you haven’t already, be sure to read our full Avengers: Age of Ultron panel recap and Ant-Man panel recap.

After the jump, you’ll find __ Marvel Comic-Con images from both panels, featuring Robert Downey Jr., Paul Rudd, Chris Evans, Elizabeth Olsen, Michael Douglas, Chris Hemsworth, Evangeline Lilly, Samuel L. Jackson, Corey Stoll, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jeremy Renner, Cobie Smulders, Mark Ruffalo, Paul Bettany, James Spader, director Peyton Reed, and Thanos himself Josh Brolin

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Comic-Con Panel Recap; New Footage “Got No Strings” but Plenty of Action

by     Posted 97 days ago

avengers-age-of-ultron-comic-con-panel-recap

This was the one.  There had been good panels on Saturday, but Marvel is always the one that drives people crazy.  They know how to put on a show.  People were hungry for this panel.  It was supposed to start at 5:30pm and when it started getting later, people were chanting, clapping, and at one point even attempted to do the wave (they failed miserably at that last one) as a way to pass the time and keep up energy until the panel.  There was a ridiculous amount of good will in this room, and eagerness for news.  At the very least, they would be getting some sweet, sweet new footage from one of 2015’s biggest films.  And yet that turned out not to be enough as the studio’s Comic-Con marketing backfired.

BLACKHAT Comic-Con Panel Recap: First Look at Michael Mann’s Cybercrime Drama Starring Chris Hemsworth; Plus New Image and Logo

blackhat-comic-con-panel-recap

Michael Mann knows his crime dramas.  Heat is one of the most celebrated crime flicks of all time.  He’s a director who wants to find that kind of drama in different kinds of criminal acts, periods, and settings.  Now he’s turning his attention to the world of cybercrime with Blackhat (formerly called Cyber).  It was a surprising part of Legendary’s Comic-Con presentation because it’s not a fantastical story.  It’s disturbingly close to reality.

Hopefully you haven’t had enough Avengers: Age of Ultron yet because there’s still more information about the film coming in.  So far today we’ve told you about Paul Bettany‘s rendition of Vision and a bit about how Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) will fit into the film, but now we’ve got a little more on the main antagonist, James Spader‘s Ultron, and some rather spoiler-heavy story details as well.

It’s a little surprising that so much Avengers news is hitting just about a week before Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, but perhaps all of this information will pertain to and possibly enhance the footage they’re planning to show in Hall H on Saturday.  Hit the jump for more.
