First JURASSIC WORLD Poster Gets Ominous, Reminds Us “The Park Is Open”

Just a few minutes ago director Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) tweeted out the first poster for Jurassic World and it definitely sets a dark tone for the film (even though I expect this version to not be full of grit – it has Chris Pratt as the lead after all).  I’m super stoked about this movie so hopefully this means some kind of trailer is on the way soon.  We know the bulk of the film takes place inside a functioning park on Isla Nublar 22 years after the events of Jurassic Park and I can’t wait to see what kind of things are in store for us.  It feels like Friday the 13th Part 6 when they finally had campers at Crystal Lake!

Hit the jump to check out the Jurassic World poster with what appears to be the film’s tagline.  The pic also stars Bryce Dallas HowardNick RobinsonTy SimpkinsVincent D’OnofrioIrrfan KhanJake JohnsonJudy Greer, and Omar Sy.  Jurassic World opens June 12, 2015.  Hit the jump for a look at the full poster!

Chris Pratt Proves Marvel Can’t Fail in SNL Parody Video

There was a lot of talk about how big of a risk Guardians of the Galaxy was for Marvel Studios, and on some level it was.  But after the film’s massive box office success (it’s currently the highest grossing film of the year stateside), it became clear that the Marvel brand has now somewhat overshadowed the studio’s actual content—audiences trust that a Marvel movie will be fun, humorous, and entertaining, and so there’s a certain amount of built-in audience Marvel can expect for the properties that the studio chooses to develop.  When Chris Pratt hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend, the variety series opted to poke some fun at this notion by putting together a trailer for some of Marvel’s other upcoming projects.  Personally, I would buy a ticket for Pam 2: The Winter Pam in a heartbeat.

Chris Pratt to Host First Episode of SNL’s 40th Season

Saturday Night Live is kicking off its 40th season with one heck of a pairing.  It was just announced that Chris Pratt is locked to host the very first episode of the season and that Ariana Grande will be the musical guest.  You really can’t get much bigger than that right now.

Pratt is the star of the top-grossing movie of the year (domestically), Guardians of the Galaxy, and he’s also in one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2015, Jurassic World.  Even though Grande’s Disney show Sam & Cat just got cut, it’s probably because she’s moving on to bigger and better things now.  Her song “My Everything” is currently #1 on the Billboard 200 and she’s also #1 on the Artist 100 as well.  Hit the jump for more on what’s coming up on SNL.

Henry Cavill and Amy Adams Accept the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in Costume on the Set of BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

Who hasn’t done the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge at this point?  We’ve seen Chris Pratt do it, James Wan just posted his video, R2D2 got hit with a bucket full of ice water, and even my own mother tried to give it a go!  But this next one is a particularly cool one, and not just because it continues to help spread awareness about a condition we know so little about.

Not only did Henry Cavill and Amy Adams choose to accept the challenge, but they opted to do so in full costume on the set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.  I can’t imagine the wardrobe department being too thrilled about having that Superman suit absolutely soaked, but it’s a blast to watch and will likely help the campaign get closer to the $80 million mark – if it hasn’t reached it already.  Hit the jump to check out the Batman v Superman ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video and of course, don’t forget to keep spreading the word and if you can, donate yourself by clicking here.

Adam Scott Tries to Tell a CRYSTAL SKULL Joke in Extended PARKS AND RECREATION Season 6 Gag Reel

One of the keys to the success of NBC’s excellent Parks and Recreation is the fact that it is wholly evident that the cast (and characters) genuinely enjoy each other’s company.  This is especially clear in the just-released Parks and Recreation Season 6 gag reel, which offers nearly 10-minutes of outtakes ranging from Jim O’Heir (aka Jerry aka Larry) blowing a take, Adam Scott fumbling over the telling of an Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull joke, and Aziz Ansari and Retta serenading a straight-faced Nick Offerman.  The video is a whole lot of fun and just one more reminder of how much I’ll miss this show when it concludes its upcoming seventh and final season.

Hit the jump to watch the Parks and Recreation Season 6 gag reel.  The show returns to NBC in early 2015 for a final stretch of 13 episodes.

Chris Pratt Talks GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, the Humor, His Dancing, What He’d Like to See in the Sequel, JURASSIC WORLD, and More

Chris-Pratt-Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-interview

Now playing around the world is director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy.  As most of you know, the story follows five intergalactic misfits—Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper)—as they set out to protect a powerful and mysterious orb from the villainous Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).  For more on the film, read Matt’s review or click here for all our previous coverage.

At the recent Los Angeles press day, I landed an exclusive video interview with Chris Pratt.  He talked about his reaction to everyone loving the film, how no one in the film acts like they’re in a sci-fi movie, if he knew how much he’d have to dance when he was cast, the humor, whether he pays attention to what Marvel announces (like upcoming release dates), what he’d like to see in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Jurassic World, and more.  Hit the jump to watch.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Offers a Guided Tour Of Peter Quill’s Ship, The Milano

by     Posted 78 days ago

guardians-of-the-galaxy-milano-tour

By now you’ve probably either seen Guardians of the Galaxy or have made plans to check it out by the end of next weekend (not that it’s leaving theaters any time soon with that kind of gross).  Writer/director James Gunn’s space opera looks to be gaining traction that far exceeds the normal reach of the comic-book crowd.  A big reason for that is Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill.  And his ship, The Milano, is a perfect extension of his onscreen vibe.  Like the Millenium Falcon before it, it has a lot of personality.

Quill fancies himself a bit of a rock star, so it’s fitting that this trip inside the Milano is shot and edited a bit like an episode of MTV Cribs (except for the fact that its done in Pratt’s real-life persona).  Hit the jump for a tour of Guardians of the Galaxy’s Milano.  You can bet that you’ll be seeing it again in 2017.  As a bonus, we’ve got a video of Pratt doing a dead-on “Forgot About Dre.”

New JURASSIC WORLD Image Puts Chris Pratt Behind Bars

With Guardians of the Galaxy opening today (and tracking like it’s going to kill this weekend) it was a smart move on the part of Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow to cash in a bit on the hype and tweet out this new image from the film featuring Chris Pratt, who may be a real-deal movie star by the end of the weekend.   I haven’t written about this film myself yet here on Collider so I’ll throw my hat in the ring and say that I’m very excited for it.  It feels like they’re doing something new and exciting with the material and I’m stoked to see dinos wreak havoc on an open theme park with thousands of guests in attendance.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Review

by     Posted 83 days ago

guardians-of-the-galaxy-review

Leading up to Guardians of the Galaxy, there’s been a persistent question among pundits, analysts, and even Marvel fans about whether or not the studio’s new film is “too weird”.  Somehow, we’ve come to expect a guy who can invent anything, an alien Norseman with a magic hammer, and a guy who was put into suspended animation instead of dying of hypothermia are all credible protagonists worthy of their own movies.  But once you go into outer space and feature a talking raccoon, all bets are off. Writer-director James Gunn has no problem convincing us of his space oddities as he taps into universally beloved qualities like humor, warmth, and a sense of adventure.  Although he’s still a little trapped by some familiar plot points and a few underdeveloped main characters, these are minor qualms in a movie that’s a total blast.

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Benicio Del Toro, Vin Diesel and James Gunn Talk GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is such a fun ride, with great action, plenty of laughs, a ton of heart and perfect choices in music.  It will have you singing along, and cheering for the snarky Rocket Raccoon and a talking tree named Groot.

During a conference at the film’s press day actors Chris Pratt (“Peter Quill”/”Star-Lord”), Zoe Saldana (“Gamora”), Dave Bautista (“Dax the Destroyer”), Michael Rooker (“Yondu”), Benicio Del Toro (“The Collector”) and Vin Diesel (“Groot”) were joined by director James Gunn to talk about what attracted them to this project, how liberating it is to not have to fit into the regular Marvel scheme of things, why Yondu is such a bad-ass, fighting the right attitude for Peter Quill/Star-Lord, the emotional journey of the story, the process for having the music organically come from and compliment the story, the physicality of these roles, why the movie references Kevin Bacon, and everyone’s favorite song on the soundtrack.  Check out what they had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Extended Clip Shows Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot in The Kyln

With just a little over a week to go until its big release, early Guardians of the Galaxy reactions are coming in and, as we told you yesterday, they’re tremendously positive.  There’s always been a chance this whole thing could go south considering it’s such an unusual and highly stylized Marvel film, but ever since that very first trailer dropped back in February, it really did seem like James Gunn pulled it off.  At this point we’ve got loads of quality promotional material to further prove Guardians could be a standout, all of these adoring first reactions, and now we can add a solid extended clip from the film to the collection, too.

The piece is nearly five minutes long and gives us some serious background on all five main characters and also an extensive look at what goes down when the team is thrown in The Kyln.  Guardians of the Galaxy arrives in theaters in 3D on August 1st.  It stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee PaceKaren GillanGlenn CloseBenicio Del ToroMichael RookerJohn C. Reilly, and Peter Serafinowicz, and features the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.  Hit the jump for the Guardians of the Galaxy extended clip.

First GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Clip Has Peter Quill Facing off Against Korath

Marvel has released the first Guardians of the Galaxy clip online, and it showcases a scene that should be familiar to anyone who has seen the trailers.  The scene focuses on Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) trying to take an orb only to be interrupted by Korath (Djimon Hounsou).  What’s interesting about the clip is how it plays in the larger context of a scene rather than cherry-picking the snappiest parts and leaving out the plot points as opposed to how we’ve seen the scene in the trailers.

It’s only two weeks or so until director James Gunn’s Marvel tentpole Guardians of the Galaxy hits US screens (it opens internationally a few days prior).  As you can tell by my reaction to the footage that was screened from the film last week, I’m quite excited for this picture (you should also check out the new TV spots that hit yesterday if you missed them).  Today sees the release of three character posters.  John C. Reilly’s Corpsman Dey, Glenn Close’s Nova Prime and Michael Rooker‘s Yondu.

Guardians of the Galaxy also stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee PaceKaren GillanBenicio Del ToroDjimon HounsouPeter Serafinowicz, and the voices of Bradley CooperVin Diesel, and Josh Brolin.  It opens in 2D and 3D on August 1st.  Hit the jump for the new Guardians of the Galaxy character posters!

Marvel has released more Guardians of the Galaxy images online.  The story follows five intergalactic misfits—Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper)—as they set out to protect a powerful and mysterious orb from the villainous Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).  I wouldn’t go so far as to qualify these stills as “new” since we’ve seen most of them in the trailers, but I still appreciate the high-quality close-ups, and I certainly don’t want to see new images that end up spoiling the film.

Hit the jump to check out the Guardians of the Galaxy images.  The film opens in 3D on August 1st, and also stars Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly, and Peter Serafinowicz.
