While I’m fine overall with the Jurassic World trailer teaser (my only real issue was the incomplete CG, which isn’t a complaint at all considering the fact it will all be done in time for the release of the finished film), a few people had some nagging questions about the giant aquatic dinosaur and the seemingly friendly nature of the Velociraptors Chris Pratt rides with in the final shot of the teaser.

But now director Colin Trevorrow (after addressing some of the CG concerns earlier this week) has endeavored to answer a few of those questions.  Hit the jump for what he has to say about the new dinosaurs in the film.  Jurassic World is due in theaters in 2D, 3D and IMAX on June 12, 2015.  The film also stars Bryce Dallas HowardNick RobinsonTy SimpkinsVincent D’OnofrioIrrfan Khan, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy and Judy Greer.   Also, the film’s official site has been updated to provide a more comprehensive look at the park.

This week was poised to act as the big unveiling of Universal’s Jurassic World trailer, but then Disney had to go ahead and announce a Friday debut for the first Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer.  No matter, Universal moved the release of its dino-infused sequel teaser up a couple of days, giving us our first look at director Colin Trevorrow’s take on the Jurassic Park universe this morning.  Universal released a handful of new images from the film earlier as well, but we’ve gone ahead and taken screengrabs of some of the more interesting/notable shots from the trailer and compiled them in one convenient location for you perusing pleasure.

Hop in Some Gyroballs in 4 New JURASSIC WORLD Images Featuring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Nick Robinson, and Ty Simpkins

Along with today’s first Jurassic World trailer, Universal Pictures has also released four new images from the upcoming sequel.  The movie takes place 22 years after Jurassic Park and is set on a fully functional park on Isla Nublar.  The folks running Jurassic World think genetically modified dinosaurs are a good idea, and so naturally bad things happen.  These images show off one of the film’s new doohickeys, a gyroball (not the official name, but I don’t know what else to call it), which looks like it tumbled out of Oblivion and got a paintjob.

Hit the jump to check out the new Jurassic World images.  The film opens in 3D on June 12, 2015, and stars Chris PrattBryce Dallas Howard, Nick Robinson, Ty Simpkins, Vincent D’OnofrioIrrfan Khan, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, and Judy Greer.

Universal has released the first Jurassic World trailer online.  The movie takes place 22 years after Jurassic Park and is set on a fully functional park on Isla Nublar.  My initial thoughts are… “please God don’t let that be the final CG render.”  I love the concepts at play here, I love the fact that there are paying customers at the park.  I love action hero Chris Pratt and icy Bryce Dallas Howard.  As far as the effects, it’s par for the course to issue a trailer using incomplete renders since these big blockbusters are typically worked on up until the very day they have to be delivered for prints and DCPs to be struck.  So I’m going to go ahead and say I’m still optimistic here.

Universal Pictures has released the first Jurassic World teaser trailer for director Colin Trevorrow’s (Safety Not Guaranteed) highly anticipated sequel.  The movie takes place 22 years after Jurassic Park and is set on a fully functional park on Isla Nublar.  This is the perfect kind of teaser trailer in that it offers a tiny taste of footage tinged with a hint of nostalgia (the minimal take on John Williams‘ iconic theme is great), all underlined with a sense of foreboding.  We don’t have to wait long until we see the the full trailer though, as it will debut on Thanksgiving at 6pm PT/ 9pm ET during NBC football.

Available now on VOD is writers/directors Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer‘s horror film Starry Eyes. Starring Alex Essoe as an aspiring actress who is desperate to land a role she’s convinced will jump start her career, the pic puts a devilish twist on a familiar tale of ambition, sacrifice, and obsession. Humorous at times (the very concept of a Hooters-esque restaurant called “Big Taters” comes to mind) and wholly bizarre/frightening at others, Starry Eyes owes a great deal of its effectiveness to Essoe’s fantastic turn as the determined Sarah Walker and Jonathan Snipes‘ (Room 237) tantalizing score. The way things escalate in the final act will make it a hard sell to non-horror fans, but for those who hold the genre near and dear I predict it will go down as one of the most beloved entries of 2014 due to its undeniable style, memorable performance, and pertinent themes.

My creepy as hell recommendation aside, this week’s Top 5 features interviews for and Matt’s review of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, the first trailer for Pitch Perfect 2, Chris Pratt landing the lead role in Universal’s Cowboy Ninja Viking adaptation, news regarding Josh Boone‘s The Stand adaptation, and a disturbingly well made FoxcatcherFantastic Mr. Fox mash-up trailer. Keep reading for a brief recap and link to each of the above.

Exclusive: Chris Pratt to Star in COWBOY NINJA VIKING [Update: Pratt Confirmed His Casting]

Chris Pratt quickly went from talented comedic actor to franchise star with this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and now he’s poised to lead another studio tentpole film.  Sources tell us that Pratt is now attached to topline Universal’s adaptation of the graphic novel Cowboy Ninja Viking, which was created by writer A.J. Lieberman and artist Riley Rossmo.  It sounds like the kind of title that would pique the interest of Pratt’s Parks and Recreation alter ego Andy Dwyer, and indeed it’s a rather heightened genre project.  The story revolves around an assassin with Multiple Personality Disorder who possess the skills of a cowboy, a ninja, and a Viking, and works for a secret government program.  [Update: Pratt has confirmed his involvement on Twitter.]  More after the jump.

First JURASSIC WORLD Poster Gets Ominous, Reminds Us “The Park Is Open”

Just a few minutes ago director Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) tweeted out the first poster for Jurassic World and it definitely sets a dark tone for the film (even though I expect this version to not be full of grit – it has Chris Pratt as the lead after all).  I’m super stoked about this movie so hopefully this means some kind of trailer is on the way soon.  We know the bulk of the film takes place inside a functioning park on Isla Nublar 22 years after the events of Jurassic Park and I can’t wait to see what kind of things are in store for us.  It feels like Friday the 13th Part 6 when they finally had campers at Crystal Lake!

Hit the jump to check out the Jurassic World poster with what appears to be the film’s tagline.  The pic also stars Bryce Dallas HowardNick RobinsonTy SimpkinsVincent D’OnofrioIrrfan KhanJake JohnsonJudy Greer, and Omar Sy.  Jurassic World opens June 12, 2015.  Hit the jump for a look at the full poster!

Chris Pratt Proves Marvel Can’t Fail in SNL Parody Video

There was a lot of talk about how big of a risk Guardians of the Galaxy was for Marvel Studios, and on some level it was.  But after the film’s massive box office success (it’s currently the highest grossing film of the year stateside), it became clear that the Marvel brand has now somewhat overshadowed the studio’s actual content—audiences trust that a Marvel movie will be fun, humorous, and entertaining, and so there’s a certain amount of built-in audience Marvel can expect for the properties that the studio chooses to develop.  When Chris Pratt hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend, the variety series opted to poke some fun at this notion by putting together a trailer for some of Marvel’s other upcoming projects.  Personally, I would buy a ticket for Pam 2: The Winter Pam in a heartbeat.

Chris Pratt to Host First Episode of SNL’s 40th Season

Saturday Night Live is kicking off its 40th season with one heck of a pairing.  It was just announced that Chris Pratt is locked to host the very first episode of the season and that Ariana Grande will be the musical guest.  You really can’t get much bigger than that right now.

Pratt is the star of the top-grossing movie of the year (domestically), Guardians of the Galaxy, and he’s also in one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2015, Jurassic World.  Even though Grande’s Disney show Sam & Cat just got cut, it’s probably because she’s moving on to bigger and better things now.  Her song “My Everything” is currently #1 on the Billboard 200 and she’s also #1 on the Artist 100 as well.  Hit the jump for more on what’s coming up on SNL.

Henry Cavill and Amy Adams Accept the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in Costume on the Set of BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

Who hasn’t done the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge at this point?  We’ve seen Chris Pratt do it, James Wan just posted his video, R2D2 got hit with a bucket full of ice water, and even my own mother tried to give it a go!  But this next one is a particularly cool one, and not just because it continues to help spread awareness about a condition we know so little about.

Not only did Henry Cavill and Amy Adams choose to accept the challenge, but they opted to do so in full costume on the set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.  I can’t imagine the wardrobe department being too thrilled about having that Superman suit absolutely soaked, but it’s a blast to watch and will likely help the campaign get closer to the $80 million mark – if it hasn’t reached it already.  Hit the jump to check out the Batman v Superman ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video and of course, don’t forget to keep spreading the word and if you can, donate yourself by clicking here.

Adam Scott Tries to Tell a CRYSTAL SKULL Joke in Extended PARKS AND RECREATION Season 6 Gag Reel

parks-and-recreation-season-6-gag-reel

One of the keys to the success of NBC’s excellent Parks and Recreation is the fact that it is wholly evident that the cast (and characters) genuinely enjoy each other’s company.  This is especially clear in the just-released Parks and Recreation Season 6 gag reel, which offers nearly 10-minutes of outtakes ranging from Jim O’Heir (aka Jerry aka Larry) blowing a take, Adam Scott fumbling over the telling of an Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull joke, and Aziz Ansari and Retta serenading a straight-faced Nick Offerman.  The video is a whole lot of fun and just one more reminder of how much I’ll miss this show when it concludes its upcoming seventh and final season.

Hit the jump to watch the Parks and Recreation Season 6 gag reel.  The show returns to NBC in early 2015 for a final stretch of 13 episodes.

Now playing around the world is director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy.  As most of you know, the story follows five intergalactic misfits—Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper)—as they set out to protect a powerful and mysterious orb from the villainous Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).  For more on the film, read Matt’s review or click here for all our previous coverage.

At the recent Los Angeles press day, I landed an exclusive video interview with Chris Pratt.  He talked about his reaction to everyone loving the film, how no one in the film acts like they’re in a sci-fi movie, if he knew how much he’d have to dance when he was cast, the humor, whether he pays attention to what Marvel announces (like upcoming release dates), what he’d like to see in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Jurassic World, and more.  Hit the jump to watch.
