Here's today's latest casting news:

Courteney Cox (Friends) is set for her directorial debut, Hello I Must Be Going, which will star Seann William Scott (Goon) and Kate Walsh (Private Practice).
Chris Tucker (Rush Hour) will star in the Relativity comedy, Second Honeymoon, for director Phil Joanou (Gridiron Gang).

Hit the jump for more on both casting announcements.

Deadline reports that Cox will direct Hello I Must Be Going from screenwriter David Flebotte (Desperate Housewives). Scott will star as "Ted Morgan, a depressed man who heads back to his hometown to right some wrongs before committing suicide." Walsh co-stars as his sister-in-law Kathleen Morgan. Garret Dillahunt and Rob Riggle also star. Production is set to begin in L.A. later this month.

The Wrap has Tucker starring in Second Honeymoon, which will be his follow-up role since returning to the screen in Silver Linings Playbook. The story centers on "a married couple who return to Antigua on their second honeymoon in an effort to spice things up. However, the legacy they left ten years ago comes back to haunt both of them, and before they know it, the trip is less about trying to reconnect with their younger, wilder selves and more about trying to get off the island alive." Tucker has also been rumored to star in a fourth installment of the Rush Hour franchise, an East-meets-West buddy-cop action-comedy made famous by Tucker and co-star Jackie Chan.

Creating the perfect mix of drama, comedy, romance, and powerful acting is often a theatrical recipe that stands just out of reach of most productions. Sometimes the drama and romance is there, but the comedic moments fall flat, or the actors give their all to a script that jumps from place to place, fostering few laughs and even fewer tears. Silver Linings Playbook, an Academy nominated film with an award-winning cast, gives audiences a full helping of laughs, tears, and embraces in amazing, yet equal measure, brought to the table by a stellar group of actors who not only made their characters lovable, but astonishingly believable.

In the film 122-minute film, Pat (Bradley Cooper) has just been checked out of a mental help facility by his mother Dolores (Jacki Weaver), ready, though inadequately prepared, to put his shattered life back together and win back the love of his estranged wife. He begins his quest by moving back into his childhood home with his mother and OCD father, Pat (Robert De Niro), an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. His journey to mental stability is constantly upended by his bipolar mood swings and anger issues, made stronger by his refusal to take his medication, and his utter refusal to let his old life go. Life becomes even more confusing when he attends a dinner at his friends’ home and meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a widow whose abrasive personality clashes with everyone around her. Though full of cringe-worthy moments, the two become close and begin ...

[Note: This is a re-post of my review from the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. Silver Linings Playbook opens today in limited release.]

We have acceptable levels of "crazy" in our society, and that in itself is kind of crazy. Some psychosis is cute and charming, while other acts of craziness demand hospitalization and medication. This distinction is obviously based on harm, both to others and to oneself. But there's a "healthy" level of crazy, and the search for that level is what makes David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook sharply comic and surprisingly sweet. O. Russell has once again returned to study the dysfunctional family, and while Silver Linings Playbook is softer than Flirting with Disaster and even The Fighter, it still has enough of an edge to deliver some great jokes, and strong performances to make the emotions ring true.

Pat Solitano (Bradley Cooper) has been released from a mental hospitalized, and into the care of his parents Dolores (Jacki Weaver) and Pat Sr. (Robert De Niro). Pat Jr. was sentenced to eight months of hospitalization after he walked in on his wife Nikki (Brea Bee) having sex with another man, and then Pat proceeded to beat the man half to death. Even though Pat has been released from the hospital, he still labors under the delusion he can get Nikki back. However, his plan hits a snag when he meets kindred crazy person Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), who is trying to cope with her husband's death by sleeping with every ...

The Intouchables has been a huge hit overseas, raking in $395 million internationally. The French film has piled up $9 million domestically in limited release, but it's total gross is enough to get The Weinstein Company interested in an English-language remake. In March, we reported that Bridesmaids director Paul Feig was in talks to helm the flick (re-titled "Untouchables") which is based on the true story of the friendship between a wealthy quadriplegic (François Cluzet) and a street-smart guy (Omar Sy) who stumbles into the job of the millionaire's caretaker. It's a nice movie albeit it a tad on the sappy side. Colin Firth was reportedly circling the Cluzet role, and now it looks like Chris Tucker may co-star in the Sy role.

Hit the jump for more.

Speaking to Blackfilm.com, here what Tucker had to say about co-starring in Untouchable:
Have you seen The Intouchables? Would you consider doing the remake?

TUCKER: I’ve seen it and yes, I have been talking with them (producers) about doing it. I hope something will come out of it because I really like the movie and they are in the process of getting it together. So there’s a possibility that it might happen.
I'm not a big proponent of remaking films like Intouchables since they already have such broad appeal (I felt the same way about Sleepless Night, which is also being remade in English), but Tucker seems like a fitting choice for the part. Judging by his recent performance in Silver Linings Playbook, Tucker has reigned in ...

A new trailer has gone online for David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook. The film stars Bradley Cooper as a man who's recently been released from a mental hospital after having a nervous breakdown as a result of walking in on his wife sleeping with another man. However, he's resolved to get his wife back, but along the way he meets the equally-damaged Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), who's recovering from her husband's death. Silver Linings Playbook was one of the better movies I saw at TIFF this year. It's sweet, funny, thoughtful, and this trailer conveys all those aspects (although it opens by showing off one of the film's best scenes). The movie will likely be one of the major contenders in this year's awards race, especially for Lawrence who gives an outstanding performance.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver, and Chris Tucker. Silver Linings Playbook opens November 21st.

Here's the official synopsis for Silver Linings Playbook:
Life doesn't always go according to plan... Pat Solitano (Bradley Cooper) has lost everything--his house, his job, and his wife. He now finds himself living back with his mother (Jacki Weaver) and father (Robert DeNiro) after spending eight months in a state institution on a plea bargain. Pat is determined to rebuild his life, remain positive and reunite with his wife, despite the challenging circumstances of their separation. All Pat's parents want is for him to ...

The Weinstein Company has released new images from David O. Russell's upcoming drama, The Silver Linings Playbook. Bradley Cooper plays a former teacher who, after spending four years in a mental institution, moves back in with his mother and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. However, he strikes up a relationship with a neighbor (Jennifer Lawrence) who’s also mental problems. Although the trailer played a bit corny, I liked what I saw from the cast, which also includes Jackie Weaver, Chris Tucker, Julia Stiles, and Robert De Niro. The movie is definitely one of my must-see flicks at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Hit the jump to check out the images. The Silver Linings Playbook opens November 21st.

Here's the synopsis for The Silver Linings Playbook:
Adapted from the best-selling novel by Matthew Quick, THE SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK is a touching, one-of-a-kind comedy about love and second chances.

Pat Peoples (Bradley Cooper) is a man always trying to look on the bright side of life – the title of the story takes it’s name from the expression that “every cloud has a silver lining.” Released from the hospital after losing his wife to another man, Pat believes this age-old adage is just the ticket to trying to win her back and get his life on track. Trying to remain resolutely undiscouraged, Pat moves back in with his parents and devotes himself entirely to becoming the man his wife always wanted him to be. But it’s an uphill battle. Until Pat meets ...

The first trailer for David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook has gone online. Bradley Cooper plays a former teacher who, after spending four years in a mental institution, moves back in with his mother and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. However, he strikes up a relationship with a neighbor (Jennifer Lawrence) who's also mental problems. I really like what I'm seeing from the cast, especially Cooper and Lawrence. The trailer does make the film look a little sacchrine, but Russell has never skewed towards the mawkish, so I'm going to assume the heavy-handed feel-good stuff is designed to make the film appeal to a larger audience.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Jackie Weaver, Chris Tucker, Julia Stiles, and Robert De Niro. Silver Linings Playbook opens on November 21st.

Here’s the synopsis for Silver Linings Playbook:
Adapted from the best-selling novel by Matthew Quick, THE SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK is a touching, one-of-a-kind comedy about love and second chances.

Pat Peoples (Bradley Cooper) is a man always trying to look on the bright side of life – the title of the story takes it’s name from the expression that “every cloud has a silver lining.” Released from the hospital after losing his wife to another man, Pat believes this age-old adage is just the ticket to trying to win her back and get his life on track. Trying to remain resolutely undiscouraged, Pat moves back in with his parents and devotes himself entirely to becoming the man his wife always ...

21 Jump Street is going to surprise you. Not only is it one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a long time, it’s got some great action and awesome performances from all involved. If you had told me that the pairing of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum would be comedy gold, I would have never believed you. But they are. Also, another big surprise was Ice Cube. I’ve seen the film twice and both times he brings the house down with his almost everything he says. Trust me, you want to see 21 Jump Street and I’d advise seeing it with a crowded theater. It’s a blast. For more on the film, here's Matt's glowing review, Brendan's set visit, a five-minute red band clip, and all our coverage on directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller's awesome movie.

Last week I got to speak with Ice Cube at the New York City press junket. During the interview he talked about how he got involved in the project, did his character change during the shoot, karaoke, and his favorite movie, director and actor. In addition, Cube gave me an update on the next Friday sequel and addressed whether or not Chris Tucker will return. He told me, "There’s a lot of movement. I’m writing the script right now, so we worked out a deal with New Line. The ball is rolling. We invited everybody back and we’ll have a fun movie.” Hit the jump for more.

Last fall, we learned that New Line was in talks with Ice Cube to write, produce and star in a fourth installment of the Friday franchise. The 1995 film spawned two sequels: Next Friday and Friday After Next, and kicked off the acting career of Chris Tucker. The actor all but dropped out of the spotlight following Rush Hour 3, but has recently returned to acting with a role in David O. Russell’s upcoming The Silver Linings Playbook. When news of another Friday movie broke, word was that Cube was interested in having Tucker reprise his character of Smokey from the first film.

Steve got to speak with Cube at the 21 Jump Street press junket this morning in New York City, and Cube gave a brief update on the next Friday sequel and addressed whether or not he thinks Tucker will return. Additionally, as he recently directed an entry in ESPN’s 30 for 30 series, the multi-talented performer talked about the prospect of directing more often in the future. Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

When asked if there was any movement on another Friday, Cube confirmed that things are definitely moving forward:
“There’s a lot of movement. I’m writing the script right now, so we worked out a deal with New Line. The ball is rolling. We invited everybody back and we’ll have a fun movie.”
When asked if he thinks he’ll get Tucker to return to the series, Cube replied, “I hope so.” I think it’d be ...

A lot can go down between Thursday and Saturday, but it’s been almost ten years since we’ve seen a Friday movie. That could all change as New Line is in talks with Ice Cube to write, produce and star in another installment of the series. Cube executive produced and starred as Craig Jones in the 1995 original and reprised his role both on screen and off in the 2000 sequel Next Friday and 2002’s Friday After Next. Cube may also be in line to direct the next segment.

A favorite from the first movie, Smokey, played by Chris Tucker, is in talks to return for the new film. Cube apparently wants him to reprise his role but Tucker has been non-committal. Tucker and Cube were the main focus of the first movie as they spent most of the day smoking, drinking and doing all kinds of ill shit. Hit the jump for more.

Deadline reports that Tucker could have the role if he was interested, but apparently his new-found religion is giving him cause for concern. He is hesitant to return to the pot-smoking slacker he depicted in the first film. Tucker even said he regrets signing on for his role in Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown as his character’s foul-mouthed tirade portrayed him in a bad light. No word yet on Tucker’s opinion of his role as flamboyant radio host in The Fifth Element. He can next be seen in David O. Russell’s The Silver Linings Playbook.

The Weinstein Company has set the release date of David O. Russell's The Silver Linings Playbook for November 21, 2012. Based on the novel by Matthew Quick, the movie centers on a former high school teacher (Bradley Cooper) who returns home after four years in a mental institution to live with his mother (Jackie Weaver) and win back the affection of his estranged wife. The movie also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Tucker, Julia Stiles, and Robert De Niro. Silver Linings sounds like it could be awards material and now TWC can put "From the Oscar-nominated Director of The Fighter" on the poster.

The Weinsteins will probably take Silver Linings out for a spin on the awards circuit before its November 21st release. Of course, the Thanksgiving Day weekend is always crowded and so far the date also belongs to Alfonso Cuaron's sci-fi drama Gravity, the family comedy Parental Guidance, the Keanu Reeves' action-adventure 47 Ronin, and the animated film Rise of the Guardians. Hit the jump for a synopsis of The Silver Linings Playbook. [Release date via Box Office Mojo]

Chris Tucker and Julia Stiles have joined Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Jackie Weaver, and Robert De Niro in David O. Russell's adaptation of Matthew Quick's novel The Silver Linings Playbook. Cooper plays a former high school teacher returning home from a four year stint in a mental institution to live with his mother (Weaver) and woo back his estranged wife, but instead falls for an unstable woman (Lawrence). According to Deadline, Stiles will play Lawrence's older sister. Last month, we reported that Tucker was in negotiations to play Cooper's friend from the mental institution who escapes multiple times to visit his pal. He was also in talks to lead Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained (the role ultimately went to Jamie Foxx) and to co-star in the Ben Stiller-Vince Vaughn comedy Neighborhood Watch.

Silver Linings will be Tucker's first role since 2007's Rush Hour 3. As for Stiles, she's co-starring in the indie films Seconds of Happiness, Between Us, and It's a Disaster. Hit the jump for a synopsis of the novel.

Here's the synopsis for Matthew Quick's The Silver Linings Playbook:
Meet Pat Peoples. Pat has a theory: his life is a movie produced by God. And his God-given mission is to become physically fit and emotionally literate, whereupon God will ensure him a happy ending—the return of his estranged wife, Nikki. (It might not come as a surprise to learn that Pat has spent several years in a mental health facility.)

After a five-year hiatus, Chris Tucker is looking to return to Hollywood. The actor is currently in negotiations to join David O. Russell’s adaptation of The Silver Linings Playbook, and he’s also circling a role in the Vince Vaughn/Ben Stiller/Jonah Hill comedy Neighborhood Watch. Based on the book of the same name, The Silver Linings Playbook stars Bradley Cooper as a man who believes he’s only been away for a few months, when in actuality he’s been locked up in a mental hospital for four years. He sets out to woo his ex-wife, but becomes involved with an eccentric neighbor played by Jennifer Lawrence.

Variety reports that Tucker would play Cooper’s friend from the mental hospital who often escapes to visit him. Hit the jump more, including Tucker’s involvement with Neighborhood Watch.

Tucker isn’t exactly known for being prolific, as he hasn’t appeared in a film since 2007’s Rush Hour 3, which even then was only his third movie since 1998 (all three of which were the Rush Hour films). So it comes as a bit of a surprise that he’s now looking to return to the acting world with two films, neither of which are being directed by Brett Ratner.

In addition to The Silver Linings Playbook, Tucker is also circling a role in the comedy Neighborhood Watch, which centers on a group of suburban dads who join a neighborhood watch group as a way of escaping the rote of their daily lives. Things take a turn, however, when they uncover a ...

No actor is officially confirmed for Django Unchained, the latest from Quentin Tarantino, but the cast is starting to take shape. According to Deadline, Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson are expected to sign on. Leonardo DiCaprio is about to enter negotiations to play the villain, . That doesn't give us the titular character, though. Will Smith was the first major contender for the role of Django, "a slave who is liberated and taught the tricks of the trade by a German dentist-turned-bounty hunter (Waltz)." Negotiations are stuck in first gear, and we're probably kidding ourselves to expect the super image-conscious Smith to sign on for such a gleefully controversial role.

Deadline hears Smith likely won't sign on; possible replacements include Idris Elba, Chris Tucker, and Jamie Foxx. That's an eclectic list, somewhere between intriguing and Name Three Black Actors Who Aren't Will Smith That Headlined Box Office Hits in the Past Decade. More after the jump:

The Elba rumor struck me as silly when it first surfaced. I mean, I'd cast him in a heartbeat. But the way we collectively insisted on connecting the dots... I suppose the guesswork was spot on, though -- at least that he's talking to the filmmakers.

Jackie Brown is, notably, the last film Tucker acted in that doesn't belong to the Rush Hour franchise. He would certainly do something interesting with the role, but I am frightened by the possibilities.

Foxx is a fine choice. But of the candidates rumored so far, we all want Elba, ...

Having first seen director Brett Ratner’s Rush Hour with a less-refined taste in film during my youth may have left me a wee bit biased, but I still don’t consider it too much of a stretch to group this buddy-cop action-comedy up there with Lethal Weapon and Beverly Hills Cop as a staple of the genre. Sure it’s by-the-numbers, but this class of flick calls for that and sidesteps the pitfalls of its rehashed themes by showcasing a hilarious, well-matched duo: the loud-mouthed, bug-eyed Chris Tucker and the nimble, accent-thick Jackie Chan. Light on special effects and laden with memorable banter, this 80’s buddy-cop throwback is a shamelessly fun time-killer. My review of the Blu-Ray after the jump.

Rush Hour follows LAPD’s Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) and fish-out-of-water Detective Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) from Hong Kong as they navigate the LA underworld for the kidnapped daughter of the new Chinese consulate, Lee’s close friend Consul Han (Tzi Ma). Although not their intended objective-Carter’s captain (Phillip Baker Hall) recommended him to the F.B.I. for a babysitting assignment, as they want Lee out of their way upon arrival-Lee’s persistence in escaping Carter’s grasp and his familiarity with the culprit, a quick-footed rival of his named Sang (Ken Leung), convinces Carter they can solve the case all by their lonesome. Along the way Carter and Lee develop an odd sort of brotherhood, learning to cope with and play off each others’ racial mockery and condescendingly superior athletic ability, respectively. The cast also includes ...

Looking for his first major role since the Rush Hour Trilogy, Chris Tucker is slated to star in The Rabbit, a spec script recently picked up by Warner Bros. The project, written by Micah Barnett, is being produced by Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes). According to Deadline, The Rabbit will have a similar plot line to the 1988 Midnight Run, a buddy comedy in which Robert DeNiro plays a no-nonsense bounty hunter sent to bring in Charles Grodin, a mafia accountant with an annoying personality. Three guesses as to which character Tucker would play.

Hit the jump for a quick look at Tucker’s movie history and just how versatile his roles have been.

Most people will probably remember Chris Tucker from the original Friday, in which he plays Smokey, a pot-aficionado friend of Craig Jones (Ice Cube). Smokey eventually gets the pair in trouble with a local drug dealer. Hi-jinx ensue. This is arguably Tucker’s most memorable role.

Personally, I think the most recognizable character of Tucker’s has to be the cross-dressing, hyperactive DJ, Ruby Rhod from Fifth Element. If there was one place where Tucker’s comedic timing, whiny voice and general ridiculousness fit in, it was Luc Besson’s far-fetched future epic.

His most successful project is obviously the Rush Hour series. Playing Detective James Carter, Tucker brings his own brand of high-pitched, fast-talking humor throughout the trilogy. The chemistry between Tucker and Jackie Chan is charming in the first installment, but quickly wears thin.

Will The Rabbit bring Tucker back into the buddy comedy limelight ...

Brett Ratner has established himself as one of Hollywood’s most successful directors with eight features films grossing over $1.5 billion worldwide. Best known for the Rush Hour films, X-Men: The Last Stand and Red Dragon, the filmmaker is releasing his 90-minute, re-edited and remixed version of the Bollywood film Kites, starring Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori.

Kites: The Remix follows J (Roshan), a mortally wounded man left for dead in the harsh terrain of the Mexican desert, who is on a quest to find the love of his life, Natasha (Mori). It is a story of passion that goes beyond boundaries and cultures, and defies every rule, and it was that relationship that caught the attention of Ratner, when he initially saw the film.

While at the film’s press day, Brett Ratner talked exclusively to Collider about how this unusual project came about, why he decided to re-edit a Bollywood film and what he thinks it will take for a Bollywood movie to make it big in America. He also talked about his next projects, the chances of Beverly Hills Cop IV and Playboy coming to fruition, and the TV pilot for Chaos that he recently directed, and says his next directing gig will be Tower Heist which he wants Ben Stiller to star in. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Question: How did this unusual project come about for you? What made you decide to re-edit a Bollywood film?

Brett: It definitely came out of the blue. It was ...

24 Frames reports that Universal has replaced Eddie Murphy with Ben Stiller in Trump Heist, which development people in Hollywood are calling, "a black Ocean's Eleven." The film centers on a group of con-men who work in Trump Tower and plan to swindle the poor residents who already have to suffer living in a building owned by Donald Trump (although the film may eventually be called "Tower Heist"). Chris Rock and Chris Tucker were previously mentioned in connection to the film. Murphy was set to play the lead role but with Stiller on board there will be a new draft of the script. I can't imagine why.

24 Frames cleverly notes that Trump Heist would be a white film updated to a black film and then twisted back to having a white lead (and that's just for now). Despite my total lack of faith in Eddie Murphy starring in a good movie, I have a tough time seeing Stiller as a con-man since he tends to play characters that are anything but savvy.
