And Phase Two is off and running.  With the release of Iron Man 3 just over a week away, Disney and Marvel unveiled the first teaser trailer for this fall’s sequel Thor: The Dark World this morning.  While Marvel dipped its toe into the fantastical realm with the first Thor, it’s clear from this debut trailer that director Alan Taylor’s (Game of Thrones) follow-up is very heavy on the fantasy.  We’ve gone through the new trailer and screengrabbed a batch of images, giving us a better look at the world of Thor 2 and its characters.  Christopher Eccleston’s villain Malekith looks especially sinister, and I can’t get enough of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki reveal.

Marvel has released the first trailer for director Alan Taylor’s (Game of Thrones) sequel Thor: The Dark World and it looks great.  Like every well cut trailer, it showcases a ton of impressive looking action, while revealing new details about the story.  I especially liked the reveal of how Loki (Tom Hiddleston) will be involved in the sequel.   If you dug the first Thor, you’re going to love this trailer.  Hit the jump to watch and let me know what you think in the comments.

Location work continues in a London courtyard for director Alan Taylor’s (Game of Thrones) sequel Thor: The Dark World, and it appears that the production is focusing on a fairly intricate battle sequence.  We’ve seen a number of images and video from the same London set over the past couple of weeks, and a few new videos have surfaced today that give us a look at some fun stunt work.  The fight sequence involves Chris Hemsworth’s Thor battling Christopher Eccleston’s Malekith and his band of Dark Elves, and we see a couple of stunts involving the two main characters in these new videos.

Just the other day we got a glimpse of Christopher Eccleston as the villain Malekith on the set of Marvel’s sequel Thor: The Dark World alongside his Dark Elf brethren, and today more photos and video from the set have surfaced.  Today’s batch could be considered spoilery, as they reveal Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and that dastardly Malekith duking it out on location in London.  Really nothing is revealed other than the fact that they’re fighting, but it’s clear that Eccleston is wearing motion-capture dots on his face so I’m interested to see what the final design for Malekith will look like after the visual effects are completed.

Though Phase One of Marvel Studios’ film slate came to an end just a few months ago with The Avengers, production on Phase Two is already well underway.  The studio is currently in the midst of filming two upcoming sequels at the same time: Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World.  The Iron Man production is winding down to a close ahead of that film’s May 2013 release date, but filming on Thor: The Dark World is still going strong in London and today the first official synopsis for the Asgardian pic has been revealed.

The logline essentially tells us what we already know: Thor (Chris Hemsworth) must fight against Maleketih (Christopher Eccleston) and his race of Dark Elves, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is back, the fate of the universe is in the balance, etc.  However, the synopsis does tease the film’s epic scope and the fact that Thor is forced to “sacrifice everything” in order to save us all (Thor dies?!).  Hit the jump to check out the full synopsis, which includes the full cast list.  Directed by Alan Taylor, Thor: The Dark World opens on November 8th, 2013.

Earlier today, TIFF announced that they were adding new films to their spectacular line-up.  Among the new additions are:

• Song for Marion (directed by Paul Andrew Williams) Starring Terence Stamp, Vanessa Redgrave, Gemma Arterton, and Christopher Eccleston.
• Emperor (directed by Peter Webber) Starring Matthew Fox, Tommy Lee Jones, and Eriko Hatsune.
• Arthur Newman (directed by Dante Ariola) Starring Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, and Anne Heche.
• Disconnect (directed by Henry Alex Rubin) Starring Jason Bateman, Hope Davis, Frank Grillo, Paula Patton, Michael Nyqvist, Andrea Riseborough, Alexander Skarsgård, Max Theriot, Jonah Bobo, Colin Ford, and Haley Ramm.

The villainous role in Thor: The Dark World may finally have been filled by Christopher Eccleston (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra).  We’ll keep the identity of that particular villain until after the jump for those of you who like to avoid such information.  Suffice it to say, we were right when we recently reported who we thought the villain might be.  And let’s not forget, the Marvel sequel will still include Loki (Tom Hiddleston), it’s just that this time around he’ll have a little more bad to balance out the good.  Hit the jump for more details.

Vanessa Redgrave, Terence Stamp, Gemma Arterton, and Christopher Eccleston are set to star in the British comedic drama Song for Marion.  The story has Stamp playing a grumpy retiree who reluctantly joins a local choir at the urging of his wife Marion (Regrave).  There he learns valuable life lessons through “musical self discovery”.  I know that synopses that are from press releases don’t always do the best job of conveying the tone of a film, and so I hope Song for Marion isn’t as saccharine as it sounds.  Paul Andrew Williams (London to Brighton) will direct from his own screenplay.

The original toy line hit shelves in the early 1960′s, intended to be for boys what the Barbie doll was for girls. And now, G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA has come out, based on a true toy line. It’s fascinating to see how times have changed so much that source material, toys, can inspire a movie, which itself spawns new merchandising like more toys. Is this for men what G.I. Joe is for boys? My full review is after the jump.

With “G.I. Joe:  The Rise of Cobra” set for release in a little over a week, Paramount has release four clips from the Stephen Sommers movie and they’re after the jump. As I said when I wrote my mini-review, all you need to know is “G.I. Joe” is the cartoon come to life. It’s a pure candy coated popcorn film and if you’re going to the movie theater to have a good time, you’re going to have a lot of fun watching “G.I. Joe”. Just remember, the movie is aimed at kids and it’s designed to sell toys. Watch the clips. You’ll see what I mean.

Paramount has released nine new images from “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” and they’re after the jump. While most of the online community has given up hope that “G.I. Joe” could be enjoyable, I’ll admit to wanting to check it out for myself. Also, the film is aimed at kids, so why thirty year old men need to have their panties in a bunch about this film is beyond me. I watched the cartoon when I was a kid. But I don’t need to have “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” shake heaven and Earth for me to be happy. I’m just looking for a fun popcorn film. If I get that, great. Finally, I went to the set of “Joe” last year and left feeling that it could be a lot of fun. We’ll see in a few weeks. Check out the images after the jump.
