Hayley Atwell Hides a Gun in First AGENT CARTER Clip

by     Posted 10 days ago

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is officially on winter hiatus, which means the debut of Marvel’s Agent Carter is just around the corner, and now the first Agent Carter clip has landed online.  The series follows the character of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) from Captain America: The First Avenger, as she navigates the gender politics of 1946 while working as an administrative assistant for the SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve) and dabbling in spy work for Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) on the side.  I’m not crazy about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but Agent Carter has real promise and this first clip offers a preview of how Carter hides her double life from her roommate.  On an aesthetic level, the colors and costumes are a step up from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., though I’m curious to see if the fuzzy lens (it’s old-timey, see!) becomes a distraction or works well in concert with the rest of the show.

Check out the first Agent Carter clip after the jump.  The show also stars James D’Arcy as Edwin Jarvis, Chad Michael Murray as Agent Jack Thompson, Enver Gjokaj as Agent Daniel Sousa and Shea Whigham as Chief Roger Dooley.  The two-hour Agent Carter premiere airs on ABC Tuesday, January 6th.

With awards season on the way, actors are lining up to plug their movies in the hopes that the pictures might get Academy voters to sit up and pay attention.  As for general audiences, people like listening to celebrities, and Epix and the L.A. by     Posted 17 days ago

After a gripping trailer that more than justifies not only your interest, but also the interest of George Clooney and his producing partner Grant Heslov (who are venturing out to remake this film), we’ve got an exclusive clip from Pioneer to share with you.  Written and directed by Erik Skjoldbjærg, the film is set in the 1970s at the beginning of the Norwegian Oil Boom.

The film stars Wes Bentley, Stephen Lang and Aksel Hennie and hits theaters and OnDemand today, December 5th.  Which means you can technically watch it right now (iTunes link).  Hit the jump for the new Pioneer clip.  It’s pretty intense if you’re at all afraid of tight spaces (or dying).

New A MOST VIOLENT YEAR Clip Carries a Loaded Gun in the Upcoming Drama Starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain

by     Posted 18 days ago

A24 has released a new A Most Violent Year clip.  The film takes place in New York City in 1981, and stars Oscar Isaac as a businessman trying to get a loan to expand his shipping company, but must contend with pressure from his wife (Jessica Chastain), the deputy attorney general (David Oyelowo), and organized crime families.  This premise and this clip may hint at a more intense story, but the film is actually pretty dull and consists largely of Isaac’s character moping around to get enough loans to save his business investment.

Hit the jump to check out the A Most Violent Year clip.  The film opens in limited release on December 31st before expanding nationwide in January, and also stars Albert Brooks and Alessandro Nivola.

First Look at George Clooney in the Upcoming DOWNTON ABBEY Short Film

by     Posted 20 days ago

It’s rare for a British period soap opera to become a cultural phenomenon, and it’s even rarer for it to net an A-list movie star.  Downton Abbey, arguably the silliest drama on television, is set to premiere a short film on their British network ITV over the holiday season to promote the network’s “Text Santa” charity initiative.  George Clooney will pitch in by making a guest appearance, although there are currently no details about his character or the size of his role.

A brief clip from the special has been released online, and it provides no further information other than Cora looking like she’s mistaken his character for Lord Gratham.  Or perhaps she’s just calling him “Dearest” because, let’s face it, George Clooney is everyone’s dearest.  Hit the jump to check out the Downton Abbey short film clip.  The movie will premiere on ITV on December 18th.  The show’s fifth season has already aired in the U.K., and will premiere in the U.S. on January 5th on PBS.

First THE HOBBIT THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES Clip: If Thranduil Won’t Warn Thorin, Bilbo Will

by     Posted 20 days ago

We’ve seen a number of images and trailers for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, but how about a clip from the film?  Lee Pace’s Thranduil may not be willing to risk spilling more Elvish blood by carrying out Gandalf’s (Ian McKellen) orders, but Martin Freeman’s Bilbo Baggins has no problem stepping in to get the job done.

Check out our very first The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies clip after the jump.  The film also star Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Stephen Fry, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, and Orlando BloomThe Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies opens in theaters on December 17th.

New BETTER CALL SAUL Clip Features Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmantraut: Parking Attendant

by     Posted 22 days ago

During tonight’s mid-season finale of The Walking Dead, AMC aired a new Better Call Saul clip.  The prequel series is set in 2002, and shows how Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became the sleazy lawyer we met in Breaking Bad.  In this clip, we see that Saul’s belittling attitude was already part of his personality as he confronts everyone’s favorite, beleaguered fixer Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks).  In the clip, Mike is working as a parking attendant, and his refusal to let Saul park his car leads to a fight we know Saul is going to lose badly.  Whether this relationship grows into a substantial part of the overall plot or is just a cameo for the fans remains to be seen.

Hit the jump to check out the Better Call Saul clip.  The Breaking Bad spinoff series premieres on February 8, 2015.

First BLACK SEA Clip Has Jude Law Explaining the Science Behind Salvaging Nazi Gold

by     Posted 35 days ago

Universal Pictures has released the first clip from Kevin Macdonald‘s upcoming submarine thriller Black Sea. Jude Law stars as a rogue captain who puts together a misfit crew to recover lost Nazi gold from a sunken U-boat, but the claustrophobia becomes even tighter as the crewmates turn on each other in the hope of gaining a greater share of the treasure.  This clip doesn’t highlight the interpersonal drama between the crew as much as it explains to the audience how a treasure from the 1940s could still be salvageable.  I don’t really need to know the science behind preserved Nazi gold, but I don’t mind the inclusion.

Hit the jump to check out the Black Sea clip.  The film opens January 23, 2015, and also stars Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, Michael Smiley, David Threlfall, Grigoriy Dobrygin, Konstantin Khabenskiy, Sergey Kolesnikov, Sergey Puskepalis, and Jodie Whitaker.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Deleted Scene Has Gamora and Nebula Quarreling over Their Killing Skills

by     Posted 39 days ago

With the upcoming release of Guardians of the Galaxy on Blu-ray, Marvel has released a deleted scene from the film.  While the movie is filled with great characters, I felt that Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula (Karen Gillan) didn’t get as much attention.  Gamora had to be the grown up in the room, and Nebula’s only real purpose was to fight Gamora.  However, after watching this deleted scene, leaving them on the cutting room floor may have been a wise decision.  This scene adds nothing to the film (we know Gamora and Nebula are rivals), and the line readings are stilted and melodramatic.  Guardians of the Galaxy is a space opera, but this is from a soap opera.

Hit the jump to check out the Guardians of the Galaxy deleted scene.  The film hits shelves on December 9th, and stars Chris Pratt, Dave BautistaLee PaceGlenn CloseBenicio Del ToroMichael RookerJohn C. Reilly and Peter Serafinowicz and features the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.  Click here and here for more clips from the Blu-ray, and click here to pre-order.

Exclusive BAD TURN WORSE Clip Has a Plan To Get the Money

by     Posted 39 days ago

I’ve heard nothing but fantastic things about the new film Bad Turn Worse and this clip “Money” certainly backs up a lot of them.  As a native Texan its refreshing to see a film that, by all appearances so far at least, plays with an ever so slightly heightened version of the state’s flavor without making it a pandering caricature.

The film was written by Dutch Southern (let’s stop for a moment and tip our hat to that name) and was directed by Simon Hawkins and Zeke Hawkins.  It stars Mackenzie Davis (AMC’s “Halt and Catch Fire,” What If), Jeremy Allen White (Showtime’s “Shameless”), Mark Pellegrino (The Big Lebowski, CW’s “Supernatural”), and veteran William Devane (The Dark Knight Rises, FOX’s “24” Series).  The film opens in select theaters Nationwide and VOD platforms Friday, November 14th from Starz Digital.  Hit the jump for our Bad Turn Worse clip.

Watch 6 New Clips from THE IMITATION GAME Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, and Mark Strong

by     Posted 40 days ago

The Weinstein Company has released six new clips from The Imitation Game online.  The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing, a brilliant cryptanalyst whose expertise cracked Germany’s “Enigma code” and helped turn the tide of World War II for the Allies, but his homosexuality made him a target of persecution.  I saw the film at TIFF, quite enjoyed it, and am very eager to see it again.  Also, if you don’t need to worry about these clips spoiling the best moments from the movie.  They’re definitely good, but they won’t diminish your experience when you see the entire film.

Hit the jump to check out The Imitation Game clips.  The film also stars Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Charles Dance, Mark Strong, Rory Kinnear, Allen Leech, and Matthew BeardThe Imitation Game opens in the U.K. on November 14th and in the U.S. on November 28st.

Joel Edgerton Rides into Battle in New EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS Clip

by     Posted 40 days ago

The marketing campaign for Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings has delivered loads of stunning imagery, but it’s tough to assess the film’s potential based on pretty pictures and quick-cutting trailers alone.  I thought that might change after seeing a clip from the film, but the big takeaway from the one that just dropped isn’t the tone or the dynamic between Christian Bale’s Moses and Joel Edgerton’s Ramses, but rather the incredible mid-battle imagery, especially those aerial shots of Ramses’ army about to pummel the enemy with an onslaught horse-drawn chariots.  It’s also a frustratingly brilliant move to have the piece end so abruptly.  It certainly left me eager to find out what goes down after the clip wraps up.

Hit the jump to check out the new Exodus: Gods and Kings clip.  The film arrives in theaters in 3D on December 5th and also stars Ben KingsleyAaron PaulJohn Turturro and Sigourney Weaver.

WILD Clip: Reese Witherspoon Really Needs Some Potato Chips and a Snapple

by     Posted 42 days ago

Ready to get a taste of a possible Oscar-worthy performance?  Fox Searchlight just unveiled the very first clip from Jean-Marc Vallée’s Wild.  The film is based on Cheryl Strayed’s memoir, Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, which chronicles her 1,100-mile hike from the Mojave Desert to the border of Washington State while revealing what sparked the need to make the lengthy journey along the way.  In a TIFF edition of Oscar Beat, Adam dubbed Witherspoon’s work in the film “her best performance to date.”

This new Wild clip doesn’t really have “Academy Award” written all over it, but it is a charming scenario and Witherspoon does make a convincing plea for chips and a lemonade Snapple upon her arrival at the very first stop on her 1,100-mile trek, Kennedy Meadows.  Hit the jump to check it out for yourself.  Wild arrives in select theaters on December 5th and also stars Laura DernMichiel HuismanGaby HoffmanThomas Sadoski and Kevin Rankin.

THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 1 Clip Introduces Natalie Dormer, Wes Chatham, Elden Henson and Evan Ross

by     Posted 42 days ago

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire made room for new players like Sam Claflin’s Finnick Odair, Jena Malone’s Johanna Mason and Jeffrey Wright’s Beetee, but The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 introduces far more new main characters, a number of which will likely have a significant presence in the final two films.  A brand new clip from the movie just dropped and it offers a brief introduction to Katniss’ camera team.  As the Mockingjay, it’s Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) responsibility to inspire the nation to fight back via propos – interviews, messages or wartime footage featuring Katniss supporting the rebel war effort – and the folks behind those videos are franchise newcomers Cressida (Natalie Dormer), Castor (Wes Chatham), Pollux (Elden Henson) and Messalla (Evan Ross).

You can catch them as well as Mahershala Ali as Boggs, Katniss’ personal bodyguard, in the latest The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 clip after the jump.  The film hits theaters on November 21st and also stars Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore and Donald Sutherland.
