Watch the Opening Scene from Brin Hill and Joss Whedon’s IN YOUR EYES

While Joss Whedon is currently directing the blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron, he hasn’t forgotten about indie fare.  His previous film was the microbudget adaptation of Much Ado about Nothing, and he also wrote the upcoming drama In Your Eyes.  Directed by Brin Hill, In Your Eyes is “about two seemingly polar opposites who are deeply connected in ways neither could have ever imagined.”  The opening scene has gone online, and if it’s focused on the younger versions of the two “polar opposities”, then this scene reveals their intriguing, supernatural connection.  Even though there is a supernatural twist, I almost got a Snow Angels vibe when it comes to an idyllic school environment being disrupted by a distant tragedy.  I’m definitely curious to check out more of this film.

Hit the jump to check out the In Your Eyes opening scene.  The film stars Zoe Kazan (Ruby Sparks), Michael Stahl-David (Cloverfield), Mark Feuerstein (Growing Pains), and Abigail Spencer (Rectify).  In Your Eyes premieres this weekend at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Louis C.K. Confers with Charles Grodin in First Clip from LOUIE Season 4

louie-season-4-clip

We’re less than a month away from new episodes of Louie, and in anticipation of the debut, FX has released the first clip from season four to tide fans over.  It’s a brief teaser of what’s sure to be a fantastic batch of episodes, but what’s particularly exciting about this clip is that it reveals a guest presence by the great Charles Grodin.  He plays Louis C.K.’s doctor in the clip, and the less said about what transpires the better.  We know essentially nothing about what season four of Louie entails, but the writer/director/star/executive producer has excelled in previous episodes with delivering stories that are unexpected, hilarious, dramatic, and at times very dark.  Grodin is surely one of many familiar faces that will pop up throughout the new season, as season three’s excellent guest stars ranged from Jerry Seinfeld to Parker Posey to David Lynch.

Hit the jump to watch the new Louie clip.  Season four of the series debuts on FX May 5th with back-to-back-episodes, and the network will air the entire season in two-episode chunks through June 16th.

First DECODING ANNIE PARKER Trailer Featuring Samantha Morton and Helen Hunt, Plus the First Clip in Which Aaron Paul Shows off His Dance Skills

Steven Bernstein’s drama Decoding Annie Parker recently made its debut at the Palm Beach International Film Festival, and now the film’s first trailer and clip are available online.  The film stars Samantha Morton as the title character, a woman stricken with breast cancer who works with oncologist Dr. Mary-Claire King (Helen Hunt) in order to explore the theory of a genetic inheritance of cancer.  While the trailer gives a good suggestion of the surprisingly light-hearted tone of this true-to-life cancer-themed picture, the first clip (courtesy of Aaron Paul) is just downright strange out of context from the rest of the film, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Decoding Annie Parker also stars Rashida Jones, Alice Eve, Maggie Grace, Corey Stoll, and Ben McKenzie, and opens in limited release on May 2nd.  Take a look at our interviews with Paul and Grace about the picture here.  Hit the jump to watch the Decoding Annie Parker trailer and the film’s first clip.

20th Century Fox has released the first clip from The Fault in Our Stars.  The adaptation of the John Green novel centers on the relationship between two teenagers (Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort) who meet at a cancer support group and fall in love.  I really enjoyed the book, but I was worried that some aspects of it might come off as too twee or self-conscious.  I had some reservations about this moment between Hazel (Woodley) and Gus (Elgort), but after watching it on screen, it’s clear that director Josh Boone has played the interaction perfectly.  The chemistry between Woodley and Elgort is excellent, and instead of this scene coming off as contrived, it’s endearing.

20th Century Fox released a new clip from X-Men: Days of Future Past during tonight’s MTV Movie Awards.  The follow-up finds Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) having his consciousness sent back to 1973 in order to help Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and the rest of the X-Men: First Class crew stop Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage) and the rise of the Sentinels, giant robots programmed to exterminate mutants.  This clip gives us a look at the advanced sentinels, but what’s really striking is how director Bryan Singer is using the mutant powers to create some exciting new set pieces.  It’s particularly cool to see Blink’s portal ability and watch Iceman finally ride an ice trail.

Today, we’re pleased to bring you an exclusive clip along with new images from the dramedy Small Time.  Directed by 24 co-creator Joel Surnow, the movie stars Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: SVU) as a used car salesman who has the opportunity to reconnect with his son Freddy (Devon Bostick from Diary of a Wimpy Kid) when Freddy decides to forego college and work his dad selling cars.  In this clip, Freddy explains why he wants to work on the lot instead of going to college.  I’m a big fan of Meloni, and the movie has a great cast of character actors including Dean Norris (Breaking Bad), Bridget Moynahan (Blue Bloods), and Xander Berkley (Taken).

However you feel about Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on the small screen and the feature films full of superheroes on the big screen, one of the coolest things about the fictional universe they’ve created is how everything interacts.  Events on screens big or small effect happenings further along the road.  Sometimes they’re mere novelties for comics fans, and sometimes they’re world-changing occurrences.  This new clip from the upcoming episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. shows that the events of this weekend’s film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, have had far-reaching results.  If you haven’t seen it yet, then this clip comes with a mild spoiler warning, though it’s still technically safe to watch out of context as long as you’re caught up on the series itself.  Hit the jump to watch.

Deleted Scene from THE RAID 2 Features Bullets and Buckets of Blood in an All-Out Gang War

An extended deleted scene from The Raid 2 has been released online.  The film picks up directly after the events of the first pic, as rookie cop Rama (Iko Uwais) must go undercover in the criminal underworld to protect his wife and infant son after his raid of a gangster-ridden high-rise attracted the attention of some very bad, powerful people.  I haven’t seen the film since January (my review), so I don’t know where this scene would take place or the reasoning behind it.  Honestly, the details don’t really matter since it’s an action showcase that doesn’t show any of the main characters.  Instead, it’s yet another example of director Gareth Evans‘ skill at directing action, and the movie’s extreme violence.

New Clips from UNDER THE SKIN Starring Scarlett Johansson and THE DOUBLE Starring Jesse Eisenberg

New clips have been released for Jonathan Glazer‘s sci-fi film Under the Skin and Richard Ayoade‘s comic thriller The DoubleUnder the Skin is about an alien (Scarlett Johansson) who comes to Earth and seduces hapless men into an abyss, but then she starts empathizing with them and doubting her purpose.  The clip is just Johansson’s character driving, but it does a good job expressing the mood and highlighting the unbearable, squeaky strings that comprise most of the score.  Click here for my review from TIFF.

As for The Double, Jesse Eisenberg stars as Simon James, a shy office drone whose life is turned upside down when he meets a more confident, physically identical version of himself, James Simon.  The clip highlights not only the comedy, but also provides one of the film’s many example of Simon James’ weak personality: he doesn’t have enough ID and it’s not even worth spelling out his last name.  I can’t wait to see this movie again.  Hit the jump to check out the clips.  Under the Skin opens April 4th, and The Double opens May 9th.
