We may have Doctor Strange on the brain right now courtesy of Marvel’s big day yesterday, but let’s not forget, Benedict Cumberbatch could be on his way to his very first Academy Award nomination as well.  He leads the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival Audience Award winning film, The Imitation Game, as Alan Turing, a British cryptologist determined to solve the most difficult problem in the world, the German Enigma Code.

Even though Charles Dance’s Commander Denniston thinks breaking the Enigma Code is impossible, Turing isn’t fazed by the challenge in the least.  In fact, he refuses to dub the task unbreakable just yet.  He insists, “Let me try, and we’ll know for sure.”  Hit the jump to see what happens when Turing is first given the opportunity to try to crack the code in the new The Imitation Game clip.  The Weinstein Company is giving the film a limited release on November 21st.  It also stars Keira KnightleyMatthew GoodeCharles DanceMark StrongRory KinnearAllen Leech and Matthew Beard.

Brad Anderson’s Stonehearst Asylum features Jim Sturgess as Edward Newgate, a recent medical school graduate who accepts a position at the title mental institution.  At first, he’s taken by the superintendent’s warm welcome and more modern approach to caring for his patients, but that’s only because he knows nothing of the disturbing recent staffing changes.

Want to know more about what Newgate just walked into?  The film doesn’t hit theaters until October 24th, but we’ve got an exclusive clip that offers up a nice tease of exactly what he’ll be dealing with.  Hit the jump to check out that brand new Stonehearst Asylum clip.  The film also stars Michael Caine, Ben Kingsley, Kate Beckinsale, Brendan Gleeson and David Thewlis.

Focus Features just unveiled some brand new promotional material for The Theory of Everything, paving the way to the film’s limited release on November 7th.  The clip is a bit on the schmaltzy side, but Adam’s predicating that both Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones could score some Oscar nods, so I’m going to take his word for it and assume that both will do big things with the material in the full feature.

In addition, we’ve also got a brand new featurette for the film in which Redmayne and Jones discuss Stephen Hawking and Jane Wilde’s loving relationship.  Hit the jump to check that out as well as the new The Theory of Everything clip.  The film also stars Charlie CoxEmily Watson and David Thewlis.

DreamWorks Animation has released a new The Penguins of Madagascar clip that takes us through the beginning of the movie.  Directed by Eric Darnell (Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted) and Simon J. Smith (Bee Movie), the film finds the scene-stealing penguins leading a film of their own as they’re joined by a wolf named Classified (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch), who leads a covert team of protective animals.  This is one of the clips they showed at Comic-Con, and like everything else I’ve seen from this movie, it looks surprisingly charming and funny.

First Clip from Susanne Bier’s Long-Delayed SERENA Starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper

serena-clip

Magnolia has released the first Serena clip online, and it gives a bit of a hint as to why the movie has sat on a shelf for so long despite starring two of Hollywood’s hottest actors, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.  They play Serena and George Pemberton, newlyweds trying to build a timber empire.  The business takes off thanks to Serena’s ability and ambition, but when she uncovers the truth of George’s past, it threatens the stability of their marriage and business.  While I enjoy hearing Bradley Cooper talk about mahogany as the next guy, this clip is passionate scene without much passion, except when they kiss and the handheld camera swooshes around like it’s trying to get a better shot.

Hit the jump to check out the Serena clip.  The movie also stars Sam Reid, Rhys Ifans, Toby Jones, and Sean Harris, and will premiere at the London Film Festival before opening in the U.K. on October 24th.  Serena hits VOD in the U.S. on February 26, 2015 and will open in theaters on March 27th

THE BABADOOK Clip: Hi, This is Mister Babadook. Is Amelia There?

I just cannot wait until everyone’s running around saying, “Ba-ba dook, dook, dook.”  (In Mister Babadook voice, of course.)  Jennifer Kent’s feature directorial debut is making its way towards a November 28th release and IFC Midnight is paving the way with some must-see promo material.  The film’s most recent trailer rocks a wicked build and now this brand new clip manages to make your skin crawl via one actor, one shot and zero action.

The Babadook stars Essie Davis as a single mother named Amelia.  Not only is she still having a tough time coping with the loss of her husband, but she also can’t get a good night sleep thanks to her son’s fear that there’s a monster lurking in their house.  Amelia brushes it off as best she can, but when a book called Mister Babadook just happens to appear in her son’s room, she starts to wonder if there really is a bogeyman in their home.  Hit the jump to check out the new The Babadook clip.

I should know my own blood type, right?  Thanks to this new Gone Girl clip, I might actually look into that.  David Fincher’s latest is just days away from its October 3rd wide release, so we’ve got promotional material pouring in.  In this latest clip from the film, Ben Affleck’s Nick Dunne doesn’t know if his wife’s got friends, he doesn’t know what she does during the day and he doesn’t know her blood type either, and the cops (Patrick Fugit and Kim Dickens) interrogating him aren’t happy about it.

Gone Girl just had its world premiere at the New York Film Festival Friday night and soon thereafter, the web was flooded with high praise so this one really might live up to all the hype.  Hit the jump to check out that new Gone Girl clip.  The film also stars Rosamund PikeTyler PerryCarrie CoonScoot McNairyMissi PyleCasey WilsonEmily Ratajkowski and Neil Patrick Harris.
