New Trailer for DreamWorks Animation’s THE CROODS

by     Posted 2 years, 12 days ago

A new trailer for DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming film The Croods has been released online.  Written and directed by Kirk De Micco (Space Chimps) and Chris Sanders (How to Train Your Dragon), the film takes us back to “a previously undiscovered era in the history of our planet” and centers on the culture clash between a family of cavemen and a more evolved young man named Guy (Ryan Reynolds).  This trailer is much more DreamWorks-y than the first teaser in that it relies heavily on physical comedy and gags.  That said, there are a couple genuine laughs to be found and the animation looks great.

First Trailer for DreamWorks Animation’s THE CROODS

The first trailer for DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods has been released. We don’t see much of the plot in this trailer, but the visuals look absolutely gorgeous.  We learn that the family The Croods live by the rule of “never try anything new,” so naturally the film will focus on their journey of leaving the cave for the first time.  It’s interesting to see DreamWorks playing up the more dramatic and awe-inspiring aspects of this and Rise of the Guardians compared the comedy-heavy trailers for their previous films.  I’m sure The Croods will still have plenty of jokes, but I’m encouraged by what we see in this teaser.

First Full Trailer for GAMBIT Starring Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz

by     Posted 2 years, 88 days ago

Though we got out first look at some footage from the film just yesterday, the first full trailer for Gambit has now landed online.  The pic is a remake of the 1966 film starring Michael Caine as a cat burglar who recruits a showgirl (Shirley MacLaine) to help him heist a priceless antiquity.  The update was written by Joel and Ethan Coen and stars Colin Firth as a London art dealer who enlists a Texas Rodeo Queen (Cameron Diaz) to help him con the richest man in England.  The trailer makes the film look like a lot of fun, and the Coen brothers’ touch is quite evident.  The goofiness is reminiscent of Raising Arizona, and Alan Rickman is delightfully eccentric as the target of the con.  Performance-driven comedies are few and far between these days, and Gambit appears to be a breath of fresh air.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Directed by Michael Hoffman, the film also stars Stanley Tucci and Cloris LeachmanGambit will be released on November 21st in the UK and sometime in early 2013 in the US.

CBS Films Release Date Shuffle: GAMBIT, Starring Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz, Moved Up to October 12; Thriller 7500 Pushed to 2013

by     Posted 2 years, 222 days ago

CBS Films has done a bit of release date shuffling for two of their upcoming releases.  First up, director Michael Hoffman’s remake of the 1966 caper comedy Gambit has been moved up from January 11th, 2013 to October 12th of this year (per Box Office Mojo).  Cameron Diaz and Colin Firth star as partners in a con to sell a fake Monet painting, and the film has a script by Joel and Ethan Coen.  Given the caliber of talent involved, the January date was always a bit of a puzzler.  The film will now square off against Ben Affleck’s stellar looking period thriller Argo and the Kevin James “comedy” Here Comes the Boom.  Hit the jump for more, including release date news concerning The Grudge director Takashi Shimizu’s airplane thriller 7500.

First Image of Cameron Diaz and Colin Firth on the GAMBIT Set; Stanley Tucci and Cloris Leachman Cast

by     Posted 3 years, 217 days ago

Director Michael Hoffman (The Last Station) initiated principal photography last week on the remake of the 1966 caper comedy Gambit.  Cameron Diaz and Colin Firth are subbing in for Shirley MacLaine and Michael Caine, respectively, as partners in a con to sell a fake Monet painting.  Stanley Tucci and Cloris Leachman have just signed on to the production; they will be joined by Alan Rickman and Tom Courtenay.  Factor in the Coen Brothers wrote the screenplay, and there’s plenty of talent on both sides of the Gambit camera.

Production is in London right now, with plans to shift to New Mexico.  See the first official image of Diaz and Firth in costume on the Gambit set along with the official press release after the jump.

Louis Gossett Jr., Ed Asner, Fionnula Flanagan, Brian Cox, and Cloris Leachman Visit THE HOME

by     Posted 4 years, 59 days ago

Kristoffer Aaron Morgan and Eric Vespe (aka Kraken and Quint of AICN) have begun to assemble a cast for their horror film The Home: namely Louis Gossett Jr. (Iron Eagle), Ed Asner (Up) and Fionnula Flanagan (the Lucy to Desmond Hume’s Charlie Brown on Lost). Bloody Disgusting reports that Brian Cox (chewing scenery in the recent Red) and the great Cloris Leachman (Raising Hope) are also in talks to star in the horror thriller.

The Home concerns a young man who, after suffering a horrible accident, goes to recuperate at a nursing home… that just so happens to be infested with carnivorous monsters. Tough break. Having unfortunately visited a nursing home not too long ago, I can tell you that they are heartbreakingly sad and terrifying all at once. I wasn’t sure whether to cry for the elder woman, who stared transfixed at a blank unplugged television screen as yellow droplets rolled down her leg, or run screaming from the poor woman. Add monsters into the mix — and well, I get the shudders just thinking about it. More about old people and monsters after the jump. (No easy jokes about them being the same thing, please.)

Pearce, Moreno, Cassel, Leachman, and Ledoyen to Star in L.D. Napier’s MIS-FITS

by     Posted 4 years, 88 days ago

Guy Pearce, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Seymour Cassel, Cloris Leachman, and Virginie Ledoyen have been cast in author-playwright L.D. Napier’s directorial debut Mis-Fits.  According to Variety, the comedy centers on a ‘necro-detective’ who goes in search of people’s lost dead relatives.”  I assume he always comes back with bad news.  Producer Doug Claybourne says that Mis-Fits “is a wacky comedy in the tone of Harold and Maude“.

Filming is set to begin in May with Affonso Beato (The Queen) on board as cinematographer and Richard Hoover (Dead Man Walking) attached as production designer. Ingrid Michaelson will write an original song for the movie with music by M. Ward.  Napier previously directed the documentaries The Incremental Injury and Every 21 Seconds: Or Why I Scream at the Refrigerator.  Pearce recently co-starred in the critically acclaimed Animal Kingdom and The King’s Speech.

New York I Love You movie poster - slice.jpg

With the short film anthology “New York, I Love You” (a sort of sequel to “Paris, je t’aime”) set for release October 16th, Vivendi Entertainment has released a ton of clips and I’ve posted all of them after the jump. While most film’s get four to eight clips released for promotional purposes, due to how large the cast is and how each person needs a clip when promoting the movie on a talk show, the studio has released a whopping 16 clips and it’s about sixteen minutes of the movie. So if you’ve been waiting for the film, you can see a lot of it right now. If you’re not familiar with “New York, I Love You”, the film’s got a huge cast and eleven directors telling stories about New York City and love. Take a look:

The first trailer for Vivendi Entertainment’s “New York, I Love You” has been released. This is the film that’s like “Paris, je t’aime”, but while that one had no connective tissue, somehow “New York, I Love You” ties most or all of the short films together.

While a feature film made up of a lot of short films might not appeal to all of you, the cast is ridiculous and it’s something I can’t wait to see. If you’re curious, watch the trailer after the jump. I’ve also included all the director’s involved and the full cast:

The first poster has been released for “New York, I Love You”. This is the anthology film that features many short films about love in the city that never sleeps. While many of you might not be excited about a feature film that’s made up of only shorts, take a look at this cast:

Bradley Cooper, Justin Bartha, Andy Garcia, Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson, Natalie Portman, Irrfan Khan, Emilie Ohana, Orlando Bloom, Christina Ricci, Maggie Q, Ethan Hawke, Anton Yelchin, James Caan, Olivia Thirlby, Blake Lively, Drea De Matteo, Julie Christie, John Hurt, Shia LaBeouf, Ugur Yucel, Taylor Geare, Carlos Acosta, Jacinda Barrett, Shu Qi, Burt Young, Chris Cooper, Robin Wright Penn, Eva Amurri, Eli Wallach, and Cloris Leachman

I think you just got interested. Anyway, after the jump is the poster, the synopsis, and all the directors who contributed to the project. “New York, I Love You” gets released October 16th.
