A host of new talent has joined writer/director Peter Landesman’s JFK feature film, Parkland.  Newly on board the Tom Hanks-produced assassination picture are Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen), Colin Hanks (King Kong), Ron Livingston (Office Space), James Badge Dale (The Departed) and David Harbour (Quantum of Solace).  The actors join Zac Efron, Marcia Gay Harden, Paul Giamatti, Billy Bob Thornton and Jacki Weaver.

We’re happy to premiere an exclusive red band clip from director John Stalberg Jr.’s comedy High School.  The film centers on a soon-to-be valedictorian (Matthew Bush) who smokes pot for the very first time, only to find out that a mandatory drug test has been scheduled at school.  In a moment of panic, Bush and his friend (Sean Marquette) conspire to spike the school’s bake sale brownies with the help of a law-student-turned-drug-dealer (Adrien Brody) in order to make everyone fail the drug test.  This clip features a teacher played by Yeardley Smith waxing poetic about soulful singer/songwriter Bryan Adams’ member in a pot-induced rambling.

Co-written and directed by John Stalberg, High School focuses on soon-to-be valedictorian Henry Burke (Matthew Bush) who smokes pot for the first time, then discovers that a mandatory drug test has been scheduled at school.  He teams up with his stoner friend Breaux (Sean Marquette) to make sure everyone fails.  Together they spike the school’s bake sale brownies with high-powered ganja stolen from law-student-turned-drug-, Psycho Ed (Adrien Brody).  Their half-baked plan goes up in smoke when Psycho Ed realizes his prized stash has been used to get everyone in the school stoned out of their minds.

At the press day for High School, we sat down for a roundtable interview with actor Colin Hanks and director John Stalberg to talk about their recent collaboration and how they set about turning the concept of a stoner comedy on its head.  Hanks described what attracted him to the role, what the directing process was like, why Psycho Ed has got nothing on Male Page, and his upcoming film, The Guilt Trip, and his plans to direct a documentary. Stalberg, an expectant father, compared delivering a film on time and on budget to impending parenthood and revealed his collaboration with Richard Kelly on Owen’s Manual and the possibility of a High School sequel called Juvie. Paramount has made a welcome release date announcement today.  Director Robert Zemeckis’ (Back to the Future) long-awaited return to live-action, the drama Flight, has been slated for release on November 2nd (per Box Office Mojo).  Zemeckis has been making creepy motion-capture films like The Polar Express and Beowulf for the last decade, but Flight marks his first live-action feature since 2000’s Cast Away.  Denzel Washington stars as an alcoholic and drug-addicted pilot who safely lands a damaged plane and is quickly heralded as a hero, despite having been under the influence during the accident. The fantastic cast includes John Goodman, Melissa Leo, and Don Cheadle.  The film will square off against the R-rated comedy 21 and Over and Disney’s animated feature Wreck-It Ralph on that November date.

In order to put Flight on the 2012 release schedule, Paramount has pushed the family comedy The Guilt Trip (formerly My Mother’s Curse) from October 2nd to a prime Christmas Day slot.  The film centers on a mother/son road-trip and stars Seth Rogen and Barbara Streisand.  The coveted December 25th date also includes Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained and Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby.

The first trailer for the pot comedy High School has gone online.  Co-written and directed by John Stalberg, the film centers on a soon-to-be valedictorian (Matthew Bush) who smokes pot for the very first time, only to find out that a mandatory drug test has been scheduled at school.  In a moment of panic, Bush and his friend (Sean Marquette) conspire to spike the school’s bake sale brownies with the help of a law-student-turned-drug-dealer (Adrien Brody) in order to make everyone fail the drug test.  The trailer has a couple laughs, and I’ve heard that the full film is quite a bit better than this clip would have you believe.  The premise could be a lot of fun, and Brody and Michael Chiklis are nearly unrecognizable as the psycho drug dealer and school principal, respectively.  Moreover, it looks like there’s a Thurman Murman cameo, and every movie is automatically improved 100% with Thurman Murman.

When we reunite with our favorite serial killer Dexter (Michael C. Hall) for the season six premiere, it’s been a year since our dark passenger helped and hooked up with the troubled Lumen (Julia Stiles) and brought down twisted self-help guru Jordan Chase (Jonny Lee Miller). While the previous seasons have had Dexter attempting to fit in through love and romantic relationships, this year he and his dark passenger are having a crisis of faith, at least when it comes to raising his toddler son Harrison. Really, the idea of romance all but disappears as various relationships from previous season (we won’t say which ones) have all pretty much crumbled, which makes for quite a lot of tension around Miami Metro Police Department. However, despite the high amount of tension that rises rather quickly in the first three episodes of the season, there also seems to be a higher level of humor, other than the usual dark fare, than other seasons. But that’s just the beginning of the strange changes happening in Miami. Hit the jump for the rest of my review of the sixth season of Dexter.

After taking this summer to catch up on all five seasons of Showtime’s fantastically bloody serial killer drama Dexter, my excitement for the premiere of the sixth season on October 2nd simply cannot be contained. Therefore, I’m very pleased to direct your attention to this great new behind-the-scenes featurette which delves into some of the bigger plot points that will dominate this season. From Dexter’s newfound interest in religion, to a quick sneak peek of Edward James Olmos and Colin Hanks as a couple of creepy new characters, this is a great, informative tease for the sixth season which can’t get here soon enough. Comic Con 2011: At the Showtime Preview Panel, Michael C. Hall and company talked up the 6^th season of Dexter; William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum and John Wells teased the second season of Shameless; Morena Baccarin and Howard Shore discussed their new show Homeland. In the dark comedy Lucky, Ben (Colin Hanks) wins the lottery and, suddenly, his childhood crush, Lucy (Ari Graynor), becomes interested in him. Ben has been in love with her for years, but she has a hidden agenda, looking to appropriate his new found wealth. But, Ben is far from the shy, quiet guy that Lucy believed him to be and she gets more than she bargained for when she discovers that Ben’s past times include the occasional murder. In trying to make their marriage work, Lucy realizes that covering up for a serial killer is anything but easy.

During a recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Colin Hanks talked about the appeal of a role so different from what people have come to know him for, playing a serial killer under the spotlight for winning millions in the lottery, making his character likeable even though he does such unlikeable things, and working with such a fun group of actors. He also talked about being part of the cast for Season 6 of the hit Showtime drama Dexter, how exciting it is to be involved in the latest storyline, how much he can’t wait to go to Comic-Con, the experience of making My Mother’s Curse with Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogen, and his desire to make a documentary about the Tower Records legacy. With co-writer/director Gil Cates Jr.’s (Deal) Lucky set to hit select theaters on July 15th, we’ve been given an exclusive clip to share with our readers. Starring Colin Hanks, Ari Graynor, Jeffrey Tambor, Mimi Rogers, and Ann-Margret, Lucky tells the story of a man (Hanks) who wins the lottery and lands his lifelong crush (Graynor) as a direct result. However, the fairytale quickly takes a turn when she learns that, while not spending his winnings, he enjoys serial killing.

Showtime has announced which of its series will be making appearances at this year’s Comic-Con. The pay-channel’s panel will include the hit show Dexter and their new series Shameless, as well as a first look at their brand new drama series Homeland. The Dexter panel will include Michael C. Hall, C.S. Lee, David Zayas and season six guest star Colin Hanks. Appearing from Shameless are William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum and more, including executive producer John Wells. Homeland stars Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin.

The first trailer for the indie comedy Lucky has been released. The film stars Colin Hanks as an unassuming young man who wins the lottery and marries the girl of his dreams. Oh, and he also likes to kill people (experience should come in handy for his arc on the upcoming season of Dexter). The trailer’s actually alright. At first it seems a little “straight-to-DVD,” but once the premise comes across, Lucky looks like it could be a pretty good quirky comedy. I really like Hanks, and a serial-killer indie comedy actually seems like a good fit for his comedic style. In addition to Hanks, the cast includes Jeffrey Tambor, Ann-Margaret, Mimi Rogers and Ari Graynor. Hit the jump to watch the trailer.

We’ve got a few casting stories for you tonight. First up, John Cho is the latest actor to join the cast of Len Wiseman’s Total Recall remake. The film stars Colin Farrell, Bryan Cranston, the recently confirmed Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Bielm, and late addition Bill Nighy. EW reports that Cho is on board to play McClane, the rep for the company that tries to mess with Farrell’s character’s mind. Cranston is playing the villain, with Ethan Hawke set to show up in a cameo. Total Recall hits theaters August 3rd 2012.

Additionally, Colin Hanks has signed on for the Paramount comedy My Mother’s Curse. The film stars Seth Rogen, Barbara Streisand and Chuck star Yvonne Strahovski. The story centers on an inventor (Rogen) who invites his mother along for a cross-country trip while he attempts to sell his new product and connect with a long lost love. THR reports that Hanks will play the husband of Strahovski, Rogen’s high school sweetheart. Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) will direct from a script by Dan Fogelman (Tangled). Years and years ago we simply would’ve known him as Tom Hanks son, but thankfully Colin Hanks has worked hard to create quite a career for himself. Aside from appearing in films like Orange County and King Kong, the younger Hanks has also had quite an impressive career on TV in shows like Roswell, Mad Men and most recently The Good Guys (even though the series was canceled). Now Hanks is keeping his activity on the small screen alive as TV Line reports the actor will have a major character arc in the forthcoming sixth season of Dexter, which just had its first promo show up online recently as well. Apparently details on his character are being kept underwraps but speculation is already rampant that he’ll end up being this season’s bad guy. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.
