For the past year or so, Limited Paper’s been wondering which gallery would be the first to announce an “all Glow-in-The-Dark” show.  Indeed, if we consider GID’s rise in popularity over the past year or two, such a showcase seems inevitable.   But just because the idea’s an obvious one doesn’t guarantee that it’d result in success: more than any other factor, an all-GID show would almost certainly live or die based on the artists hired to participate.

Turns out, there was nothing to worry about: our friends at NYC’s Bottleneck Gallery have pulled the trigger on an all-GID showcase, and–based on the preview images we’ve been cleared to share with you today—Bottleneck understood just how crucial hiring the right artists would be.  Wanna see new (and GID-infused!) posters from Craig Drake, Godmachine, Bruce Yan, and a slew of others?  Meet me after the jump, folks.

This just in:  we’ve got the details surrounding Mondo’s next big gallery show.  As you probably already know, we’re closing in on the one year anniversary of the Mondo Gallery’s opening, and—as expected—it appears that the Mondo guys have lined up something pretty damn awesome to celebrate that milestone.  Wanna know more?  Details after the jump, folks.

Limited Paper Preview: Hero Complex Gallery’s OSCAR LEGENDS Show Brings New Work from Craig Drake, New Flesh, Cuyler Smith, Blunt Graffix, More

by     Posted: February 13th, 2013 at 4:35 pm

It seems like everywhere we turn right now, some sort of Oscars-themed drop is taking place:  Gallery 1988’s got a three-day poster-palooza planned for the coming weekend, Mondo’s presumably hard at work on this year’s crop of Oscars Night poster drops (fingers crossed for a Stout Django Unchained), and—last but certainly not least—Hero Complex Gallery has their own Oscars-themed show on deck:  Oscar Legends brings together new art from Craig Drake, Cuyler Smith, Alice Lin, Bruce Yan, Blunt Graffix, James Rheem Davies, and a number of other artists regularly featured here at Limited Paper.  Wanna see some of what’s going to be available when the show opens this Friday?  Meet me after the jump, folks.

There’s zero empirical evidence to back up the theory, but here at Limited Paper we tend to think that there aren’t a lot of hard-core collectors out there with big Valentine’s Day plans.  Quite frankly, when the vast majority of your spending money is being pushed towards one fancifully-colored 24x36” sheet of paper after another, there isn’t much budget left for schmoozing the ladies (or the gents, if that’s your thing).  Sure, you could’ve bought her that diamond-encrusted toaster she’s always wanted, but there’s something like 400 prints dropping this week:  one has to prioritize.

But what if you have a significant other…and they’re also into poster collecting?  Well, good news, buddy:  Bottleneck Gallery’s Get a Room (opening in NYC this Friday) is filled with a ton of romantic, movie-themed posters your guy or gal will be jazzed to have hanging on their wall, and we’ve got preview pics for you (including new work from Craig Drake, Godmachine, and Cuyler Smith) after the jump.

Earlier today, the word started spreading, and soon enough we were all paying attention:  “sometime soon”, a Mondo-related announcement was going to drop via our friends over at Ain’t It Cool News, and…well, and nothing:  that was pretty much all we got by way of a hint.  Mercifully, the wait for AICN’s announcement didn’t last long, and now we all know what the big secret was:  this week, Mondo will drop a Steven Spielberg double-header—a poster based on Jaws (by Laurent Durieux) and another based on E.T. The Extraterrestrial (by Mike Mitchell).

Wanna see these new prints, find out where they’re dropping, when, and what each one’s gonna cost ya?  Meet me on the other side, folks.

Hero Complex Weapon of Choice Gallery image slice

Last night, the Hero Complex Gallery in Los Angeles premiered their new exhibition “Weapon of Choice” and it was loaded with cool artwork “inspired by prominent characters of fiction, historical reference, or pop culture, and their relationship with their iconic weapon.”   Last week, Scott wrote a preview of the exhibition in Limited Paper, but with the show opening, I decided to stop by and take pictures of everything on display and it’s definitely worth checking out.  In addition, later today Hero Complex will be “dropping” what’s still available on their website, so if you see something you like you can pick it up.  Keep in mind, everything for sale is very limited, so don’t wait too long to purchase.  Hit the jump for the pics.

For now, all is quiet in Poster World (“…not a gallery was stirring…”), but the year ain’t over yet, folks!  Is a mind-blower of a poster drop lurking somewhere between now and January 1st?  If so, will it be the poster we’re all hoping it’ll be, or something else entirely (our money’s still on a Martin Ansin Parental Guidance)?   Eh, who knows?  Speculation like this only drives everyone crazy, and after we all just spent a week being driven nuts by our families, who needs that?  Instead, let’s focus on wrapping up our Top 20 Greatest Posters of 2012 list.

Confused?  Everyone who missed Part One can get caught up on the back half of our list here.  Once you’ve done that, check out our next round of picks (some of which might surprise you) by clicking the link below.  Who made the cut?  And who’s probably gonna end up being named Poster MVP, 2012?  Meet me after the jump to find out more, Princess.

Limited Paper: Craig Drake Dropping a Dozen BLADE RUNNER, KILL BILL, and STAR TREK AP Prints Tomorrow

by     Posted: December 16th, 2012 at 3:40 pm

The Mondo Gallery’s Brandenburg and Drake showcase will almost certainly be remembered as 2012’s biggest pleasant surprise:  it totally snuck up on us, delivering an uppercut of awesome that no one saw coming.  Two months later, at the most recent Mondo Gallery opening, people were still talking about how thoroughly they’d been caught off-guard by that show.   Since then, Craig Drake has gone from being one of the more obscure contributors on the Mondo payroll to one of its most respected.  Even fans that aren’t hip to Drake’s style (basically: “Pat Nagle by way of a Harry Knowles fever-dream”) seem to respect the fact that his work is unlike anything else currently being produced in Poster World.

And tomorrow, Drake is scheduled to drop a huge batch of APs via his online store, giving the newly-converted (and everyone who missed out the first time around) one last chance to snatch up some of the guy’s best work.  Wanna know what’s dropping and what it’s gonna cost ya?  Meet me after the jump, folks.

Ltd. Art Gallery popped up in our inbox a week or two ago to share an exciting bit of news:  the Gallery was coming up on the its first-ever anniversary, and to celebrate the occasion they were revisiting the pop-culture theme that kicked off their first gallery show all the way back in 2011.  The 2012 model was being called Pop 2! The Art of Pop Culture Returns, and—from what the Ltd. Art Gallery folks have told us about this show—it’s gonna be a helluva party.

Wanna find out what’s happening at Ltd. Art Gallery’s Thursday opening of Pop 2! The Art of Pop Culture Returns?  Wanna find out which artists have new artwork dropping at the show?  Wanna see a few of those prints, including one we’re convinced is one of the year’s absolute best?  Meet me after the jump for all of that and more, folks.

Limited Paper: Video and Images from Mondo Gallery’s Brilliant, Hilarious BRANDENBURG & DRAKE Show

Mondo-Brandenburg Drake show slice

If you ask the average collector to name a few of the artists currently working for Mondo, you’d probably hear a few of the same names over and over again. Much in the same way that you used to rank your favorite Backstreet Boys in middle school (what, you thought we forgot?!), Mondo fans can’t help but pick favorites. In fact, if ya talked to the wrong person, you might think Tyler Stout, Martin Ansin, Olly Moss, and Aaron Horkey were the only guys creating posters for Mondo.

Not so at the Mondo Gallery: from the beginning, the Gallery has been committed to showcasing the company’s the lesser-known stretches of the Mondo brand: its newer or less-prolific contributors, its more obscure licenses. Case in point? Mondo Gallery’s Brandenburg & Drake exhibit, which opened to rave reviews in Austin last night. Going in, Limited Paper knew very little about Robert Brandenburg and Craig Drake…but when we left, we were true believers. Find out why after the jump, folks.

Limited Paper Exclusive: Mondo’s BRANDENBURG AND DRAKE Gallery Show Opens Tomorrow, Offers up KILL BILL, BLACK SWAN, and…Barbara Streisand?!

by     Posted: September 13th, 2012 at 2:18 pm

Back in March– when Mondo opened their first-ever Gallery space in Austin, Texas—they made it clear that they wouldn’t be using their new digs to showcase anything typical.  In fact, it was made clear to everyone that Mondo intended to use the site to celebrate some of their lesser-known artists, to showcase artwork based on some of the more obscure licenses in their catalogue, to provide something a little weirder and more personal than the work they produce in conjunction with Hollywood’s studios.

Since that first Gallery show in March, Mondo’s definitely made good on that promise.  And tomorrow, they’re giving us our latest dose of atypical, obscure, lesser-known, and weird.  Tomorrow, Mondo will unveil the Brandenburg and Drake show…and from what we’ve seen thus far, it’s gonna be something special.  Wanna know (and see) more?  Meet me after the jump, folks.

We’re big fans of Mondo—the collectible boutique arm of the legendary Alamo Drafthouse—here at Collider. They commission and make available gorgeous works of art inspired by movies small and large, commercial and cult hits. This past weekend Mondo opened their first ever gallery in Austin, TX, right in the middle of the SXSW Film Festival. The gallery opening was a huge success, and I’m incredibly jealous as both Steve and Matt got a chance to attend and take a gander. For those of us not lucky enough to make the trip, Mondo has made available images of some of the prints they had on display for their inaugural sci-fi show. They include stunning works including Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, A Trip to the Moon, War of the Worlds and more.

Hit the jump to take a look at some of the prints on display.
