Opening this weekend is director Taylor Hackford’s (Ray) Parker.  Based on the novel Flashfire by Donald E. Westlake (published under the pseudonym Richard Stark) the crime thriller stars Jason Statham as the title character, a professional thief with a strict personal code of ethics.  Parker doesn’t steal from people who can’t afford it, he doesn’t hurt people who don’t deserve it, and if you break his rules he will hunt you down and make you pay.  When his team double crosses him on the job and leaves him for dead he tracks them to Palm Beach with a mission for vengeance.  The film also stars Jennifer Lopez, Michael Chiklis, Nick Nolte, Clifton Collins, Wendell Pierce and Micah Hauptman.

During the recent Los Angeles press day I got to talk with Statham.  He talked about Hackford’s approach to the action genre, what it took to pull off the stunts, what kind of movie he’d like to make in the future, stepping into the role of producer on Heat, whether he’ll ever direct a film, and more.  In addition, we got updates on Crank 3, Homeland and Hummingbird.  Check out the full interview after the jump.

Simon West‘s The Expendables 2 opens this weekend, and the film has Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) and his gang of mercenaries out for revenge while also having to deal with a baddie (Jean-Claude Van Damme) who wants some weapons-grade plutonium.  I was very disappointed with the first film, but the sequel is a blast.  I think one of the big problems with the original was the lack of a great antagonist.  You can’t have all these huge action stars fighting a no-name actor in the middle of nowhere.  But by bringing in Van Damme (who is one of the best parts of the sequel), the fight scenes are a lot more fun.  The Expendables 2 also stars Jason Statham, Yu Nan, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

At the recent Los Angeles press day I got to speak with Jason Statham.  We talked about how he prepared for the sequel, filming in Bulgaria, who would he like to see in The Expendables 3, and what’s the status of Crank 3.  Hit the jump to watch.

Jason Statham Interview THE MECHANIC; Plus Updates on CRANK 3 and THE EXPENDABLES 2

If you’re a fan of Jason Statham action films, you’ll be happy to know his latest movie, a remake of The Mechanic, opens this weekend.  Like the 1972 Charles Bronson film that it’s based on, Statham plays a ‘mechanic’, which is “an elite assassin with a strict code and unique talent for cleanly eliminating targets.”   Unlike some remakes that stray far from the original, Statham’s remake uses the same plot, but updates all the technology and kills.  Also, Simon West directed (Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider) the film so the action is well done.  I actually thought the remake was a lot of fun and casting Ben Foster to play the apprentice was a smart move as he’s a very talented actor that brings a lot to the role.  For more on the film, watch 4 clips here.

Anyway, I recently participated in a roundtable interview with Statham and you can either read a transcript or listen to the audio after the jump.  During the interview with the press shy action star, Statham talked about where his career is going, what it was like to make The Mechanic, his preparation process, upcoming movies like Safe and The Expendables 2, does he ever think Crank 3 could happen, and a lot more:

Earlier today I got to interview Jason Statham as CBS Films is junketing his next movie The Mechanic (which is a welcome addition to Statham’s ass kicking resume) here in Los Angeles.  As a fan of his work over the past decade, it was really cool to finally ask him some questions about how he chooses his projects and just to hear him talk about making movies.  And while I’ll have the entire conversation online the week of release (January 28), I wanted to post two highlights tonight: what he said about Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables 2 and if he thinks a Crank 3 will ever happen.  Hit the jump for what he had to say:
