Nick Frost CUBAN FURY Interview

Equal parts humor and heart, Cuban Fury tells the story of Bruce Garrett (Nick Frost), a man who gave up his dream of winning the UK Junior Salsa Championships, 25 years ago.  Now, he’s out of shape, unloved and doing a job he’s not passionate about, until the arrival of his smart, funny, gorgeous new American boss, Julia (Rashida Jones) reawakens his love of salsa dancing.  From an original idea by Nick Frost, the film also stars Chris O’Dowd, Olivia Colman, Ian McShane and Kayvan Novak.

During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Nick Frost talked about where the idea for this film came from, his secret dream to be a dancer, why he decided not to write the film himself, shooting a full-on dance fight scene, how Simon Pegg ended up doing a cameo, how grueling the dance training was, finding the right balance in tone, what this cast was like to work with, the film’s love story, how much he hates doing wire work, and the deleted scenes.  He also talked about doing the Fox comedy pilot Sober Companion with Justin Long, how he got involved with The Boxtrolls, the lack of an update on the Tintin sequel, and his experience making Business or Pleasure with Vince Vaughn.  Check out our Nick Frost interview after the jump.

Nick-Frost-Rashida-Jones-Cuban-Fury-interview

Nick Frost leads Cuban Fury as Bruce. Way back when, young Bruce was a rising salsa star. He proudly strut around in his bejeweled shirts and pristine dancing shoes, collecting trophies and titles left and right – that is until a group of bullies showed Bruce what they thought of his hobby. Years later, Bruce’s dancing shoes are collecting dust and he’s spending his days working safe and sound at a desk job. However, when he finds out his beautiful new boss, Rashida Jones’ Julia, has a little thing for salsa herself, his little thing for her inspires him to give dancing another go.

While in New York City promoting Cuban Fury’s April 11, 2014 release, Frost and Jones took the time to sit down with Collider to talk about Cuban Fury – or rather Cuban Furry. Or, if you prefer, Cute and Furry. Hear about the duo’s preference for making love at weddings versus dancing and memories of their mothers beating up bullies. We’ve also got Frost’s thoughts on his new Fox comedy pilot, Sober Companion, and Jones talking about her own for TBS, Tribeca.

Release Dates for Lee Daniels’ THE PAPERBOY and CUBAN FURY Starring Nick Frost

by     Posted 2 years, 87 days ago

paperboy-movie-image-matthew-mcconaughey-zac-efron-slice

A couple of new release dates have been announced.  First up, Lee Daniels’ adaptation of The Paperboy will hit theaters on October 5th (per Deadline).  The film stars Matthew McConaughey and Zac Efron as two brothers who team-up to investigate the potential wrongful conviction of a death-row inmate played by John Cusack.  The film was met with a less-than-enthusiastic response at the Cannes Film Festival, but I’m still interested in seeing the pic based on the impressive cast.  The drama faces considerable competition on that October release date, as Frankenweenie, Taken 2, the a capella comedy Pitch Perfect and the horror film Sinister all open on the same day.

Additionally, Studio Canal and Big Talk Pictures have set the salsa dancing revenge comedy (how’s that for a genre?) Cuban Fury for release on March 22nd in the UK and Ireland.  Nick Frost plays a burgeoning salsa dancing star alongside Rashida Jones, Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids), Olivia Colman (Hot Fuzz) and Ian McShane.  Production begins next week in London, and hopefully we’ll get a US release date announcement soon.  Hit the jump to read the press release.
