Watch Edgar Wright’s New Music Video for Pharrell Williams and Daft Punk’s Single “Gust of Wind”

by     Posted 79 days ago

Yesterday we showed you a teaser of Edgar Wright’s new music video for Pharrell Williams and Daft Punk’s single, “Gust of Wind,” and now the full piece has arrived.  It doesn’t make up for the loss of a Wright-directed Ant-Man, but it’s still nice to get a little something while we wait for one of his other projects to get going – Baby Driver, Grasshopper Jungle and that new one he’s developing with Simon Pegg.

I doubt the song will catch on for me personally, but the combination of the tone of the track and Wright’s visual choices, especially those shot transitions, do make it a particularly smooth, pleasant watch.  Hit the jump to check out the “Gust of Wind” music video for yourself.

Watch a Teaser for Pharrell and Daft Punk’s “Gust of Wind” Music Video Directed by Edgar Wright

by     Posted 80 days ago

There were many reasons why Edgar Wright’s departure from Marvel’s Ant-Man was a bummer.  While I’ve come to believe that Wright leaving the project was actually for the best, I’m still disappointed because I was really looking forward to seeing a new Edgar Wright movie in 2015.  The filmmaker has already lined up a few incredibly promising projects, but he actually found a way to get behind the camera much sooner than expected.  Wright recently helmed the music video for Pharrell Williams and Daft Punk’s upcoming single “Gust of Wind”, and a teaser for the music video has now gone online.  At 25 seconds in length it’s admittedly not much, but the teaser serves as a pleasant reminder that we have new Edgar Wright material to look forward to very, very soon.

Watch the “Gust of Wind” music video teaser after the jump, along with nearly all of the Wright-helmed music videos to date.  No word on when this latest one will be released, but I imagine it won’t be long now.

Toy Fair: Over 250 Pictures From Convention Floor Including FROZEN, BREAKING BAD, DOCTOR WHO, SONS OF ANARCHY, ANCHORMAN 2, and More

by     Posted 311 days ago

As someone with a major soft spot for Funko products, their booth at Toy Fair 2014 was a standout.  The company came with dozens of brand new items including The Walking Dead and Guardians of the Galaxy bobble heads, and POP! collections for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ghostbusters, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and more.

Mattel showed off new Hot Wheels and Frozen products while Mezco Toyz previewed brand new pieces for Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad including a variety of six-inch Walter Whites (Bryan Cranston), a replication of the infamous pink teddy bear, and Jax (Charlie Hunnam) and Clay (Ron Perlman) figurines. Underground Toys had a huge assortment of Doctor Who products while Cryptozoic Entertainment put some of their new trading card series on display.  We even caught the Khaleesi trying to sell some dragon eggs (or rather, paperweights) on the convention center floor.  We also got a look at toy lines for Anchorman 2, Axe Cop, Daft Punk, and so much more.  We snapped over 250 photos while walking around, so you can see Toy Fair for yourself after the jump.

Exclusive: TRON 3 Update from Director Joseph Kosinski; Talks Daft Punk’s Return, TRON 3′s Time Period, EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Comparisons, and More

by     Posted 2 years, 10 days ago

Tron fans had reason to rejoice a little over a week ago when we reported that Disney is now moving forward with a sequel to 2010’s TRON: Legacy.  The follow-up has been in development since that film’s release, but new Disney Studios head Alan Horn sees Tron 3 as a priority, and so Jesse Wigutow has been brought on to pen the latest draft of the script in order to get things moving.  Legacy star Garrett Hedlund recently confirmed his inevitable involvement in the pic, but details regarding the sequel have been few and far between.

Steve recently participated in an exclusive interview with Legacy director Joseph Kosinski in anticipation for his upcoming sci-fi film Oblivion, and he kindly provided a lengthy update on Tron 3, which he intends to direct.  Kosinski talked about the status of the script, the fact that this had to be their Empire Strikes Back in order for him to return, the possibility of Daft Punk once again providing the score, how much time has passed when Tron 3 picks up, and much more.  Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

Teaser Trailer for Disney XD Animated Series TRON: UPRISING; TRON: LEGACY Score to Get Remix

by     Posted 3 years, 297 days ago

After TRON: Legacy landed with a thud, I’ve found it difficult to care about where the story goes from here.  However, Disney still believes in their black-and-neon franchise and they’re moving forward with the new animated series TRON: Uprising.  The series will air on Disney XD in summer 2012 and cover the events between the original TRON and Legacy.  A teaser trailer for the series has gone online and if you loved TRON: Legacy, then you’ll probably love this too.  It has light cycles and stuff.

More promising is an upcoming remix of TRON: Legacy‘s outstanding score.  Pitchfork reports that Disney will release Tron: Legacy R3CONFIGUR3D on April 5th and it will feature M83, Photek, Moby, Com Truise, and others remixing Daft Punk’s score.  The remix soundtrack is available to buy in various special editions on the score’s official website.  Hit the jump to check out the TRON: Uprising trailer and the track list for Tron: Legacy R3CONFIGUR3D.

If you ever wanted to know what TRON: Legacy would have looked like on the Nintendo NES, hit the jump.  That’s because YouTube “user” pierremanry created a very cool 24 second video called TRON: Legacy 8 bit.  He even did the awesome Daft Punk soundtrack in 8 bit.  Definitely worth watching.

Best Performances, Directors, and Other Miscellany of 2010

by     Posted 3 years, 361 days ago

In my profession, there are two very important things you must do: watch movies and keep notes.  I did an alright job with the first one, but admittedly fell short on the latter.  While last year I was able to confidently provide what I thought were the best kills and quotes, this year I didn’t do a good job with record keeping and so I’ve omitted those categories.  Next year I’ll be more meticulous and make it a point to see movie where people get destroyed while saying witty things.

However, I did see enough movies to confidently make a list of the folks I thought were the best actors, directors, and other miscellaneous greats.  Hit the jump to check out my picks.

Exclusive: TRON: LEGACY Director Joseph Kosinski on Easter Eggs, Secret Cameos, IMAX, Daft Punk B-Sides, Reshoots, and so Much More

by     Posted 4 years, 2 days ago

At the end of last week, I met up with TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski for an extended interview at a local restaurant in Los Angeles.  It was right before the movie got released, and while I’d already spoken to him at the press junket, he’d agreed to give me more time for an extended conversation.  The fact is, you can only ask a few questions during a TV interview and most of the time you walk away feeling like you only scratched the surface.

However, during my epic 50 minute conversation, Kosinski and I discussed everything I could think of and I also asked the questions a lot of you sent me on Twitter.  Some of the things discussed were what Michael Bay told him before filming, secret cameos, the Easter Eggs, the Daft Punk music and what never made the soundtrack,  what might be in Tron 3, the IMAX release, how did he make a movie that looked so fraking cool, what sequences were changed or removed due to time/money, what will be on the Blu-ray, will he keep changing the film like George Lucas does Star Wars, how he became a filmmaker, and so much more.

However, the best part of the interview had nothing to do with his movie.  That’s because when I first arrived, he was motioning me to look over his shoulder and he was smiling like a kid on Christmas.  I didn’t understand why he was so happy.  But when I looked to his left, I understood.  Harrison Ford was sitting right next to him eating lunch.  More after the jump:

Daft Punk Talks About Their Experience With TRON: LEGACY

by     Posted 4 years, 7 days ago

Shrouded in mystery, the helmeted French techno-pop duo known as Daft Punk have been creating some serious buzz in the scene of electronic dance music since the early 90’s. They’ve won Grammy Awards, created fusions of techno and rock, helped evolve the raving subculture, and maintained a serious dedication to helmet hair whenever in the public eye (…not sure if they shower with them too, but I would never doubt it). And now with the release of Tron: Legacy and their subsequent film-scoring debut, they are truly at the top of their game.

Their score for the futuristic sci-fi film will combine a full orchestra with their already rich sounds, and if you’ve already heard pieces like “Derezzed” or any other part of the soundtrack, you know it delivers a thick, colorful sound that will make you want to tap your feet in the theatre (as long as you can remove them from the goo that covers the floor). In a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, the pair discuss how they came on board to score the movie and their opinions on the film’s themes, their view on technology today, how the soundtrack was influenced by Lawrence of Arabia, and their plans for the future.

Tron-Legacy-movie-image-new-collider-slice (1)

TRON: Legacy is an odd sequel as it attempts to capitalize on the technologically groundbreaking but commercially unsuccessfully 1982 film TRON.  The original film has built up a cult following over the years and even managed to occasionally find its way into pop culture with South Park‘s depiction of Moses resembling the Master Control Program and the YouTube celebrity “TRON Guy”.  The sequel attempts to reinvent the series as sleek and cool, but the result is a simplistic visual style that attempts to mask a poorly-paced story filled with bland characters.  TRON: Legacy comes alive with an amazing score and some eye-catching set pieces, but the sequel makes this franchise look like it should be shutdown rather than rebooted.

Director Joseph Kosinski and Producer Sean Bailey Exclusive Video Interview TRON: LEGACY

by     Posted 4 years, 12 days ago

In the summer of 2008, at Comic-Con, Walt Disney Studios stunned attendees by premiering footage from what appeared to be the sequel to Tron.  While a sequel to Tron had been a rumor for many years, this was the first proof that Disney might be serious.

Since that summer, fans have waited patiently for the return of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges).  But with December 17th just a few days away, the world only has to wait a few more nights to see the grid come back to life with 21st century graphics. As a lifelong fan of Tron, trust me when I say, this is a film that needs to be seen in a theater and I really recommend IMAX 3D as the screen fills up during certain scenes on the grid.  Also, the Daft Punk score is amazing and hearing it in a huge theater with the volume turned up…that’s how it’s meant to be seen.

Anyway, I was able to do video interviews with most of the cast, director Joseph Kosinski, and producer Sean Bailey. Every day this week I’ll be posting a new video interview and up first is Kosinski and Bailey.  Hit the jump for our interview:

Daft Punk Release Music Video for TRON: LEGACY Album Track “Derezzed”

by     Posted 4 years, 18 days ago

Daft Punk has released a short music video for their track “Derezzed” off their new album, the soundtrack for TRON: Legacy.  The soundtrack went on sale today and it’s strong stuff.  For the most part, the album isn’t the dance-type tracks they’re best known for but “Derezzed” has got a great beat and the music video ain’t bad either.  Hit the jump to check out the music video which features a nice little cameo at the end.

TRON: Legacy stares Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, and Jeff Bridges.  It opens in 3D on December 17th.

TRON: LEGACY Soundtrack $3.99!

by     Posted 4 years, 19 days ago

If you’ve been looking forward to Daft Punk’s TRON: Legacy Soundtrack (it’s awesome and one of my favorites of the year), Amazon is selling it tonight for $3.99!  The only thing to know is…it’s just for the MP3′s.  But if you don’t mind just having digital copies, it’s a hell of a deal.  No idea when this sale will end so I wouldn’t wait too long…

TRON: LEGACY Facebook App Lets You Drive a Light Cycle and Enter the Grid

by     Posted 4 years, 34 days ago

This weekend was the big TRON: Legacy press junket here in Los Angeles.  While I was able to conduct video interviews with the cast and filmmakers, I’ve decided to hold back from posting them until closer to Tron’s December 17 release.

But while you have to wait a few more weeks for Tron, you can actually enter the grid right now!  That’s because Disney has launched a pretty cool Facebook app that lets you upload a picture and then you’re in the world of Tron.  While I was hesitant to try it out at the press junket today, I’ll admit it’s actually worth checking out as the face mapping software works extremely well.  It’s also the closest I’ll ever get to driving a light cycle.  Hit the jump to watch my video:

TRON News Roundup: New TRON: LEGACY Clip Featuring Olivia Wilde as Quorra, Daft Punk Medicom Toys, and a Cool “Modern Trailer” for Original TRON

by     Posted 4 years, 58 days ago

If you’re looking forward to TRON: Legacy, today is a great day.  That’s because tonight is Tron Night, and Walt Disney is going to let a ton of moviegoers around the world catch an early glimpse of TRON: Legacy.  I saw the footage a few weeks back and left the theater extremely impressed.  I’m also going to see the footage again tonight in IMAX 3D, so look for a write-up later.

However, while you wait, how about three cool Tron stories.  Up first is a minute clip from TRON: Legacy which features our first real look at Quorra (Olivia Wilde).  If you’re going to Tron Night, you’ll see this in 3D and it leads to a very cool scene with Jeff Bridges.  I won’t say more than that.

The other two Tron stories are our first look at the Daft Punk TRON: Legacy Medicom action figures and someone has cut together a “modern trailer” for the original Tron.  Hit the jump for everything:
