ABC has finally put the finishing touches on their Fall 2012 lineup and announced premiere dates for new and returning series.  It seems like just yesterday we were saying our goodbyes to the network shows for the summer, with the intensity of Breaking Bad and the silliness of True Blood keeping us company until the fall season, but it’s about time to start looking to the Fall 2012 TV lineup.

Fan favorites like Modern Family, Revenge, and Once Upon a Time will premiere in the normal late-September slot, but we’ll have to wait until October for the return of Happy Endings and Suburgatory.  For my money, the most promising new show on ABC’s schedule is the Connie Britton-fronted drama Nashville, which premieres on October 10th.  Body of Proof, Wife Swap, and new shows Red Widow and Zero Hour are being held until midseason. Yesterday we brought you the Critics’ Choice Award nominees.  Tonight belongs to the Television Critics Association.  Homeland tops the list with 4 nominations.  While it got the extra boost over established veterans in the Outstanding New Program category, the taut thriller earned its spots in Best Drama and Program of the Year as well as the nod to Claire Danes for her stellar performance.  The critics understandably still love Breaking Bad and Bryan Cranston, Mad Men and Jon Hamm, Louie and Louis C.K., Game of Thrones and Peter Dinklage, Parks and Recreation and Amy Poehler.  Creator/star Lena Dunham is the freshest face in the bunch, representing in both Individual Achievement in Comedy and Outstanding New Program with Girls.  But as always, there are a few head-scratchers.  Jessica Lange for American Horror Story is a legacy vote, and while her scenery-chewing was very entertaining—for Individual Achievement in Drama?  No.  And Smash somehow sneaked into Outstanding New Program rather than, say, Veep or Awake.

Still, the TCA always gets more right than they do wrong, especially with their neat Heritage Award.  (This year’s eclectic contenders are Cheers, Lost, Saturday Night Live, Star Trek, and Twin Peaks.)  Read the full list after the jump.

Upfronts Day 3: Commence! Over the last two days, we’ve seen the new fall 2012 schedules for NBC and Fox, as well as trailers for some of the new series that those networks will be offering.  Today it’s ABC’s turn, and their new schedule has a couple of change-ups for returning series.  The fan-favorite drama Revenge has taken over Desperate Housewives’ Sunday night spot (if you weren’t aware, DH had its series finale this past weekend), and the comedies Happy Endings and Don’t Trust the B— in Apartment 23 will be moving to Tuesday nights.

Tuesday is fast becoming the new comedy night, as NBC has set their two most high profile new comedies—The New Normal and Go On—for Tuesday, and that night is currently host to Fox’s all-comedy block that includes New Girl and Mindy Kaling’s The Mindy Project.  In other words, you’re probably gonna have to do some in-depth DVR scheduling.  Hit the jump to check out the full ABC schedule.  We’ll have trailers for the new series up once they’re available.

I like to see the guild awards, because the specificity allows for nominees that you won’t see on more general lists.  The Art Directors Guild is especially interesting because they separate the films into three categories: period, fantasy, and contemporary.  The 15 nominees highlight everything from Oscar favorites Hugo and The Artist, to crowd-pleasers Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 and Captain America, to poorly received films like Cowboys & Aliens and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.  There’s a similar contrast in the TV nominees between the classy HBO programs you’d expect (Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, and Mildred Pierce) and the critical punching bags American Horror Story and The Playboy Club.  The full list of nominees is after the break.

With awards season in full swing, the Producers Guild of America has just announced the television series nominees for the 23rd Annual Producers Guild Awards which will be announced on January 21, 2012 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. In the comedy category, I can’t believe a show with such inconsistent writing quality as Glee beats out something like Community, but there you have it. There’s still some deserving nominations with Modern Family and Parks and Recreation though. On the dramatic side of things Game of Thrones gets some well-earned loved for their first season and both Mad Men and Dexter continue their collection of accolades. For the rest of the nominees in each category as well as talk shows, competition shows and non-fictions shows, hit the jump.

Another midseason schedule, another great TV series missing. Just a few days ago NBC announced their midseason schedule, and along with it came the news that Community will be benched for the foreseeable future. A similar scenario is now happening with ABC’s midseason premiere schedule. While their announcement today includes premiere dates for GCB (which will replace Pan Am in the post-Desperate Housewives slot starting in March), the Ashley Judd drama Missing, the horror-drama The River, the comedy Work It, and a new season of Dancing with the Stars, the fantastically quirky sitcom Cougar Town is nowhere to be found. This week ABC is revealing their premiere dates for the new and returning series for the 2011-2012 season kicking off in September, and plenty of fan favorites are returning in a big way. Comedy series like The Middle and Modern Family are getting special one-hour premieres while Grey’s Anatomy gets a whopping two-hour premiere episode. In addition, after the jump you’ll find out the premiere dates for new series like the remake of Charlie’s Angels, the period drama Pan Am, Tim Allen’s return to TV in Last Man Standing the fairytale drama Once Upon a Time and more. Julianne Hough first became known to millions of fans as the two-time professional dance champion on the ABC hit series Dancing with the Stars. After leaving the show, her self-titled debut country music album hit the Billboard Country charts at #1. Now, she is making a name for herself in the world of acting, with a supporting role in Burlesque, which she will then be following with one of the lead roles in the remake of Footloose.

During a roundtable at the film’s press day, the rising star talked about focusing on the performance aspect of Burlesque and working with a group of dancers instead of just a partner, being starstruck by Cher, and the similarities and differences in her version of Footloose. ABC has announced their fall premiere dates for the 2010-2011 season.  As you can see after the jump, the season starts on Monday, September 20 with new episodes of Dancing With the Stars and Castle.  The network will be airing new shows the rest of the week.  Hit the jump for the schedule.
