PREMIUM RUSH Blu-ray Review

by     Posted 1 year, 360 days ago

Premium Rush is the kind of movie Hollywood no longer seems interested in: The B-movie action film. These are films with low budgets and generally smaller stakes that try to make up for their limitations with a streamlined plot, a high concept, and a leading man that people like. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Shannon star in this story of a bike messenger (Gordon-Levitt) who’s given a hot item that gets him hunted by a cop (Shannon). Our review of Premium Rush on Blu-ray follows after the jump.

I’m not sure if it’s possible for a director to misunderstand his own script.  If it is possible, then David Koepp has accomplished this feat with his new film, Premium Rush.  Koepp sees his story as one of mischievous imps who ride through the streets of New York.  But the characters aren’t impish.  They’re rebels, they’re outsiders, and they’re the kind of people who will take a chain to your driver’s side mirror if you fuck with them.  Koepp has taken his rough-and-tumble world and pushed it through a slick filter of fun visual effects, quick maneuvers, time jumps, and other flourishes that give his movie a pulse, but not much of a heart.  For all of Koepp’s obsession with bringing the world of bike messengers to life, he forgets that what really pushes a movie forward is a strong character in a compelling story.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Dania Ramirez Talk PREMIUM RUSH, DON JON’S ADDICTION, Hit Record and More

by     Posted 2 years, 122 days ago

Premium Rush is a high-adrenalin action thriller set in the world of bike messengers.  Wilee (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is the best in New York, dodging speeding cars, crazed cabbies and inconsiderate pedestrians, all to make a delivery to its proper destination.  But, when his last envelope of the day becomes more than he bargained for, a routine run turns into a life or death chase through the streets of Manhattan.

At the film’s press day, Collider participated in both a press conference and 2-on-1 interview with co-stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Dania Ramirez, who talked about what attracted them to the project, the level of confidence you have to have in order to be a successful bike messenger, what surprised them most about bike culture, how much of the stunts they actually got to do themselves, and working with Michael Shannon as a crazed villain.  Gordon-Levitt also talked about his feature directorial debut Don Jon’s Addiction, what makes Christopher Nolan and Steven Spielberg both such amazing filmmakers, and what’s up next for his production company, Hit Record.  Check out what they had to say after the jump.

New Trailer for PREMIUM RUSH Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt

by     Posted 2 years, 204 days ago

A new trailer for the thriller Premium Rush has gone online.  The film was initially slated to open in January of this year before being pushed back to August, so we saw the first theatrical trailer way back in September.  Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as a New York bicycle messenger who has a routine delivery turn into a life or death situation.  I’m a big fan of both Gordon-Levitt and Michael Shannon, who plays the film’s antagonist, but I’m unable to muster any real enthusiasm for this pic.  The trailer plays up the film’s high-octane thriller aspect while singling out a lot of bike stunts, but I can’t help but feel like Premium Rush would have been more relevant/enticing during the X-Games boom in the 90s. That said, with Gordon-Levitt and Shannon in the cast I’m willing to give the film a shot.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  Co-written and directed by David Koepp (Secret Window), the film also stars Jamie Chung and Dania RamirezPremium Rush opens on August 24th.

New Red-Band Trailer for AMERICAN REUNION

by     Posted 2 years, 269 days ago

A new red-band trailer for American Reunion has gone online. Not a ton of footage is revealed in this new look at the fourth (real) entry in the American Pie franchise, but there are a few gags here and there that make it worth your time. I’m especially fond of Stifler’s reaction to his old hook-up buddy, and a much welcomed Stifler/Finch/Stifler’s mom moment. Earlier today we posted a Funny or Die video that featured Jason Biggs and a talking pie out for revenge that’s incredibly funny, so I’m hoping the same kind of humor carries over into American Reunion. Everything we’ve seen thus far has me optimistic that Reunion is a worthy successor to the previous three Pie films, and I’m eager to check the sequel out.

Hit the jump to check out the new trailer, and if you missed our interview with writer/directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg be sure to take a gander. The film stars also stars Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nichols, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge, Katrina Bowden, Dania Ramirez, and Shannon Elizabeth. American Reunion opens on April 6th.

With writer-directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg‘s American Reunion opening in a few weeks, Universal has just released five clips.  In the sequel, the original gang return to East Great Falls for their high-school reunion and as the synopsis says, “In one long-overdue weekend, they will discover what has changed, who hasn’t and that time and distance can’t break the bonds of friendship.”  I’m a big fan of the first film and looking forward to seeing Jim, Oz, Finch, Kevin, Stifler and of course Stifler’s mom again.

American Reunion stars Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nichols, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge, Katrina Bowden, Dania Ramirez and Shannon Elizabeth Hit the jump to watch the clips.

First Trailer for PREMIUM RUSH Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Shannon

by     Posted 3 years, 98 days ago

The first trailer for co-writer/director David Koepp’s (Ghost Town) action/thriller Premium Rush is now available online. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Shannon, Jamie Chung, Dania Ramirez and The Daily Show‘s Aasif Mandvi, the film centers on Wilee (Gordon-Levitt), a New York bicycle messenger who has a routine delivery turn into a life or death situation. Based on the trailer, Premium Rush looks to be a stylish thriller and while some of the dialogue may seem a little heavy-handed, I’m willing to take a chance on anything that features both Gordon-Levitt and Shannon.

Check out the trailer for yourself after the jump. Premium Rush hits theaters on January 13, 2012.

First Synopsis for David Koepp’s PREMIUM RUSH Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Shannon

by     Posted 3 years, 320 days ago

David Koepp, the director and writer of 2008’s Ghost Town and writer of action blockbusters like Spider-Man, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, has been working on a new action thriller entitled Premium Rush – which he wrote and directed.  You’ll remember the films star, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, ended up with 31 stitches during the filming of one of the actions scenes back in July. You can check out pictures of Levitt on set here.  Anyway, we’ve been sent an early synopsis for the film and you can check it out after the jump.

Premium Rush is produced by Columbia Pictures and also stars Jamie Chung (Sorority Row) Dania Ramirez (Entourage) and Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire).  It’s slated for a January 13th, 2012 release:

Michael Shannon and Jamie Chung Join Joseph Gordon-Levitt in PREMIUM RUSH

by     Posted 4 years, 185 days ago

Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road, a half-second in Jonah Hex) and Jamie Chung (Sorority Row) have joined Joseph Gordon-Levitt in David Koepp’s bike-messenger thriller Premium Rush.  The movie centers on a New York City bike messenger (Gordon-Levitt) who accidentally comes into possession of a package that a dirty cop desperately wants.  THR reports that Shannon will play the dirty cop, who is “deceptively affable” but also possesses a violent temper.  Chung is in talks to play the lead female role of Gordon-Levitt’s ex-girlfriend/”daredevil bike messenger who helps him outwit the cop.”

A couple weeks ago, we reported that Dania Ramirez (Heroes) was going to star opposite Gordon-Levitt.  THR doesn’t say if Ramirez dropped out of the film or if she’s playing another leading female character.  If there are multiple female leads, I have no problem believing that all the ladies love Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Stephen Moyer Joins THE DOUBLE and THE BIG VALLEY; Dania Ramirez to Co-Star in PREMIUM RUSH

by     Posted 4 years, 197 days ago

We have two pieces of casting news for you this morning.  To start off, True Blood star Stephen Moyer has landed roles in two projects.  First up, he’ll be starring alongside Richard Gere and Topher Grace in the spy thriller The Double.  Co-written and directed by Michael Brandt, the film “centers on a retired CIA operative (Gere) forced to partner with a young FBI agent (Grace) to hunt down the killer of a senator in Washington.”  Heat Vision doesn’t mention what role Moyer will play.

The actor has also signed on to star opposite Jessica Lange in The Big Valley.  The film is an adaptation of the 1960s ABC western-drama TV series that starred Barbara Stanwyck as the matriarch of the Barkleys, a family of ranchers in 19th century California.  Lange is playing the Stanwyck role while Moyer will play “Jarrod Barkley, the family’s respected attorney who represents ranchers fighting to keep their land from being taken by railroad companies.”  Daniel Adams (The Lightkeepers) wrote the screenplay and will direct.
